2015 Iphöfer Kronsberg Silvaner trocken, Erste Lage from Juliusspital, Würzburg, Franken, Deutschland
Silvaner is one of my favourite white grapes. I used to drink a lot of Silvaner back in the old days in a very special #winstub a Strossburi (Strasbourg). Chez Popol (a legendary alsatian one man show wonder) wine wasn't a big issue. The food was homestyle elsassisch, which means good in my book, and I really loved the place. We never asked for a wine list. Popol said his Silvaner was from a friend and could stand its ground against Mittelbergheim's finest y basta. And it was good. Silvaner is uncomplicated.
It's a pity Silvaner has often been replaced by other grapes in several german wine-growing regions (I'm looking at you, #rheinhessen , #pfalz and #nahe ). I think this grape could prevent german viniculture from becoming too much focused on Riesling.
Luckily in Frankonia Silvaner is still going strong and nowhere else are really great white wines, which are eye to eye with the world's best grown and vinified from this grape. Period. Frankonian wines ought to be bone-dry. That's #fränkischtrocken . I like that mucho. As well as I like the Frankonians, their sausages and dumplings generally.
Frankonian Silvaner usually has some minor acidity, there is also minerality, but at least para mi the fruit aromas are most important. I never ever tasted a frankonian wine which had obtrusive elements. OK, if you want it overly sweet, piss off to the pâtisserie! This wine is well balanced, has depth, yet is really easy to like and drink. #meefischli would make a great match. Or #gerupfter , #presskopf et al.
