In an industry filled with comedy's and political dramas, here comes something a little bolder, a little risky and darker. Erica Wissel plays a woman who was involved in culpable homicide of a young black gardener. The film is narrated through a slam poetry/comic on stage who illustrates our main character as a villain who slowly manipulates her friend Jade (Petronella Tsuma) into covering up her crimes. The psychological drama is well scripted, and excellently shot. The grading pallet seems very David Fincher which is always a great idea, while pacing is slow, and some actors can be underplayed Hatchet Hour is one South African movie that is highly recommended for its bold direction by Judy Naidoo who I'm quite honored to know personally. Erica Wissel and Petronella are brilliant in their roles. It gets a 7.5/10 #southafrican#localtalent#localactors#hatchethour#judynaidoo#films#filmfan#thriller#critic#filmcritic#review#moviereviewer#movies#localmovie#nfvf#jozi#localislekker#femalecast#filmmaking#actors @heyjude_za

Gleaming after the HATCHET HOUR premiere. Please go and watch it, it is gritty, terrifying, funny, just absolutely brilliant. So lovely to sit amongst my actor-friend-generation and what an honour to all be able to elbow each other as our respective small cameos screened 😃 I am so proud of everyone. The leads WILL take your breath away and leave your goosebumps tingling long after you leave the cinema. #femmepower#HatchetHour#SAFILM#sorryforthelongpost#sorrynotsorry#SAACTORS
Women supporting women in film.
So last night we had the honour of watching our beautiful, infinitely talented friend, Judy Naidoo's debut feature film Hatchet Hour. The performances are outstanding, it's beautifully shot and Judy's direction is exceptional. Hatchet Hour is equal to any international film currently on circuit. I am appalled that Ster Kinekor refused to distribute this film.
Judy I'm so proud of you my friend not only have you made an amazing film but you've inspired me to continue to break down the barriers that we as female filmmakers face in our industry.
Please friends and family go watch this film, support women filmmakers, support women of colour, support our voices, support our stories. We really do need your support to continue to change our industry.
