Yesterday was a family day. A collection of ordinary moments that at their core, are about love. Now that I've filled another journal, these are a few that I pulled out to continue working in. Fresh starts. Turn the page. Begin. We had a coating of snow. My heart went pitter patter with unbridled happiness. Tilly had a few words for me as I worked in my studio and then she went camping on the couch. And later in the day my daughter and her boyfriend Scott came over for dinner and installed this light that my daughter got free at her work. She works for Bellacor, it's like Wayfair just smaller. Every so often emoyees get stuff that is either returned, slightly damaged or that doesn't sell, all for free. They couldn't take it to the townhome they are renting so it was gifted to me. Scott also helped me haul out the old shelf unit on the back wall of my studio that I spent yesterday dismantling. Some of those pieces were heavy and too big for me to haul out and so now I have a ton more room to spread out in my studio. I'm excited about that. Today I play! 😊
So much support from locals and visitors to Salem this weekend✨🍂 Discussing my love of hand binding sketchbooks is always such a treat! My books are for makers, writers and happy note takers - made with either, my handmade paper, or high quality multi media paper!
@creativecollectivema thanks for this photo! And thank you to @moody_interiors for the coziest scarf ever! It was so chilly - don’t know what I would’ve done without it!
It’s that time of year where I gear up for fall craft fairs. I’m very excited to participate in GRUMP (December 1st) and GRUMP Zoolights (December 8th) this year. I’ve been busy creating cloth covered recipe books, baby books, and journals. #bookbinding#craftfairs#HandBound#Books
Doing work on a very beautiful Sunday morning (21 degrees in mid October! ☺️/😥) am so behind in a lot of things with one curveball after another, but things are looking good: the cat is doing so much better, and a couple of great discoveries this week!
One of which I am very excited about is @bertilleameline_reliure’s beautiful hand bound books!
This is one of her smaller notebooks, with soft leather and paper cover, and ivory laid pages hand sewn with copper thread! 😍
Got this last Friday and I’m going to use it into a Monoline exemplar book, with @jacquardproducts’ pearlex in Super Bronze and a warm grey gouache to match the book’s cookie scheme.🤞for zero mistakes! It will take awhile to complete but I look forward to taking my time to write on each page!
I started this page last night. Somewhere along the line it took a dark and dramatic shift. One minute I was looking at a rather innocent elements and then this tornado just swooped in, full of ill wind and torment. I had just been watching the news, more views of all the destruction left by hurricane Michael. My heart always breaks a little bit when I see other's lives up ended by something out of thier control. I wonder how many lives were going along just fine and then this happens. And even more so for those who were already struggling with something. Whole lives completely thrown into chaos. Whole towns decimated beyond recognition. It is a reminder not to ever get too attached to things. It can all be taken away. Fire. Flood. Wind. All of it even. My heart goes out to those who have been touched by this disaster. I'm safe and snug in my home doing what I love to do while others lost everything and a few lost loved ones as well. It's deep heartbreak. Perspective is a powerful thing! ❤
These photos are a little cruddy and dark- my man is taking off to hike 800 damn miles through the desert! I made him this little journal so he’s got a place to write me love letters! (And you know record the details of an amazing experience.) been some time since I’ve done any binding but I think she’ll hold up ok. #handmadebooks#handbound

This is the house I grew up in. The photo was taken by my daughter during her senior year as we walked the neighborhood I'd spent my childhood in. This is the front of the house. There was no fence and that pine tree was 3 feet tall when it was planted. I cut off the front porch that would have been on the left to make this image fit. I'd stood up on that peak more than a few times. I don't have many fond memories of times inside these walls; but that roof makes me smile every time. Every once in awhile I find pieces of my story in the random words that present themselves to me. Today's found words could not have been more perfect. Sticking stuff into notebooks became part of my identity and that these words found me today affirm for me the true healing power that creative pursuits provide. From very humble tools; tape, glue, paper and pens an inner foundation was biult that became a fortress I could slay demons from. ❤
During Open Studios, I had some amazing, talented and eagle-eyed artists visit! Much to my shame and dismay, they went through the shelves with a fine tooth comb, discovering some work that I was less than proud of from years gone by. I had run out of time to pull them with the To-Do list still miles long. As I put the studio back into working order, I took every print and scrap of paper that wasn’t worthy off the shelves into a vast pile. Inspired by @richardshimellprintmaker I decided to attempt making sketchbooks out of them! I watched a million videos while cleaning and de-bagging and in the end, made this little 20-page kettle-stitched hard cover sketchbook with watercolor paper and a woodcut cover. It’s not perfect-perfect, but I’m fairly well pleased with my initial effort! AND, it was fun! Since I have oodles of material for further attempts, my Fall will be filled with hand-bound sketchbook-making, while the ink dries on my printmaking! AND, it doesn’t seem sacrilegious to repurpose them in this way, which may be why I hadn’t gotten to the burn pile yet. #studiocleaning#newskills#bookmaking#handbound#handmadesketchbook#printmaking#winwin#repurposed
Tigeritsu is an expert in playing all sorts of xylophone. His nails hidden inside soft furry paws helps him to strike the right keys effortlessly. He loves hanging out with Rhinori dipping toes in water sitting over a ledge with the scenic view of the creek and rivers. They sit there in the evenings while sipping a warm cup of chamomile tea.
Nashville- we’re all here and ready for you at the @tennesseecraft art fair in Centennial Park! I’m at booth R41. It’s bright and crisp and is going to be a beautiful day. For those of you at the @kyguild art fair in Berea, I will miss seeing you. If you are in Berea looking for one of my journals, stop by the Artisan Center or @top_drawer_gallery . Wishing everyone a really great weekend!
