This might just be the best picture I have ever taken of my clients Sean and Jen. @ladyjjheather 😂

This is actually the photo taken right at the very end of their PT session workout. The reasons why I love this photo is because it is genuine and pure. They are exhausted, I put them through their paces and also beyond which they thought they were capable of, they both gave it 100% and smashed their workouts. Oh and did I mention they had both hit new PB's on their max deadlifts just before this too?

I am extremely proud of these two and the results they have made so far.
Sean has newfound fitness and strength, while Jen has lost weight and gained more confidence with herself. 💪 
Now of course not every PT session ends with you in a puddle of your own sweat, that is not the goal nor does it simply mean you did the right exercises. But it does show that with a right directing coach on your side, you can push harder than you thought. It is too easy to listen to yourself and take it easy, but it can be more effective when you have a coach to command and direct your workout flow, your body simply follows.

People hire pts for many different reasons, some simply to take their training to the next level. Whichever your reasons may be, be rest assured you will always find that with Above The Grind Fitness.

The other day I was doing 6kg dumbbell lunges and I was like whaaaaat🙆🏾🕺🏽

It's definitely no record breaker 😂but as someone who's had the misfortune of two dislocating shoulders on both sides and a subsequent shoulder op, it's pretty mind blowing stuff!

To think that wearing blazers, coats and carrying book bags is no longer a painful ordeal is incredibly exciting, and holding a plank for more than 5 secs feels like a miracle!
.
.
The best part is having enough confidence in my shoulders' ability not to bail on me, that I no longer feel the need to bring attention to my arms or raise my hand when instructors ask if "anyone has any injuries"

So don't mind me over here slowly working my way up to a full push up - I'm feeling like a rockstar🤸🏾‍♀️💃🏾🕺🏽

Know the basics 〰️ After childbirth there is a significant empty space on your belly that gives room for pelvic organ prolapse to occur. Prolapse is a descent of the internal organs (the bladder, the uterus, or the rectum) into and eventually out of the vagina. Think of it as the power of gravity, where organs suddenly have additional room to move and naturally tend to move down. It occurs in stages: the first two stages can go unnoticed, at stage 3 the organ is at the vaginal opening, and finally at stage 4 the organ is bulging right out of the vaginal opening. Early stage prolapse is reversible, as long proper care is taken. Key things to take into account to manage prolapse: 1. During the first 20 days post birth, try to spend the majority of the time lying down rather than standing up (to avoid the power of gravity); 2. Look out for your posture (check my story highlights for more info); 3. Practice core breath (also on my story highlights); 4. Avoid heavy lifting and crunches, as it increases intra abdominal pressure; 5. Avoid high impact exercises and running, as they place too much stress on your lumbopelvic stability and can worsen the prolapse; 6. Practice hypopressive breathing, as they help strengthening your abdominal area (will do a separate post on this). If you are eager to lose your baby weight opt for low impact cardio - my go to option is incline walking and stairs. Higher impact exercise can restart once lumbopelvic stability is regained. Note that the best way to assess if prolapse has occurred is to have a physio check up at 6 weeks postpartum.

Getting that ab work in. These are way easier than sit ups. My dad told me his trainer suggested leaning in to the crunch for more intensity. So far, I love these and see myself adding them in to my workout routine.

💪🏼 If your primary goal is to build muscle (bigger booty, bigger arms, washboard abs, whatever you freakin’ want!) then training in the 6-12 rep range and completing 3-5 sets is likely ideal.

I’ve been of social media a bit because I see these ladies (and I KNOW they have more training behind them than I do since I have only been training myself and didn’t know if I was even doing it properly) who look incredible & I find myself Always able to psych myself out all the time and am the hardest person on myself. -

Checking in with my coach today had me in tears. Where my weight and body has stayed the same, I feel like I am failing. I know this isn’t true but being in this sport and having High functioning PTSD and Anxiety (for those who didn’t know. I want to be open with you guys even tho not many will read this), I know every single day will be a struggle to keep me emotions in check and fore most, my anger. 
Going through my life I realize not everyone can view the world with the same eyes I have and that people are judging me for what I’m “doing” to MY BODY(Kay? Mine!). I also have to realize that the people putting me down and hating on this sport are really and truly unhappy with themselves and they have nothing better to to do than complain and try to discourage me. Baby, that fuels this fire and makes me want to piss you off with the success that I KNOW is coming my way. -

Last night at 11:30pm I found myself in the car on the way to the ER for an exciting episode “what’s wrong with Cameron?” After feeling faint and chilly with muscle soreness, I knew it was time for immediate medical care and I was rung in with a sexy hot temp of 101.2 degrees. After some tests, the results were in and homegirl has a nice case of mono! So swipe to see a hilarious picture of me chillin in the hospital. 
This is going to be so challenging for me. Not because being sick sucks (but it does) just because it’s going to mean a break from lifting. And the gym is my happy place. To step away from it is sad and I’m worried but I know that my overall safety is so much more important. Hoping these next weeks pass without incident but it’s time to make sure my overall health comes first. .
