Prebiotic-rich dinner wrap, made with a @foodforlifebaking Ezekiel sprouted multigrain wrap, avocado, meal prepped roasted eggplant, artichoke hearts (I buy them frozen to save time and also because they have no added sodium, then steam them and add a little lemon and olive oil), bell pepper, onion, avocado, a little tempeh, @the_ginger_people pickled ginger, @bragglivefoodproducts nutritional yeast, and sesame seeds for extra crunch and calcium.

Artichokes are a great prebiotic fiber source, meaning this type of fiber feeds the probiotics in your gut aka the good bugs 👍. Onions are another great prebiotic fiber source along with other alliums like garlic!

Fiber is also satiety-inducing —especially when paired with a healthy monounsaturated fat source like avocado which slightly delays the rate at which your stomach empties, and some protein from tempeh which takes longer to digest compared to simple carbohydrates! Digestive health fundamental - increase your plant food intake with every meal. Aim for 2 cups of vegetables 🌶 per meal. Throw some colourful veg into it also and you’ll have a formula of fibre, polyphenols (food for your good bacteria) phytonutrients and antioxidants. This photo is a meal waiting to happen. It will become sautéed veges and sustainable sardines in a BPA free can. Throwing in some herbs and spices for flavour and extra digestive support. If you struggle to get veges into your breakfast meal why not make this meal with organic eggs or if you can handle sardines in the morning go for gold. Not a savoury morning fan? Why not make a smoothie which has a base of pea or fermented rice protein ( I like to use clean practitioner only brands), chuck in fibrous and polyphenol rich fruit such as berries, dragon fruit and some partially hydrolysed guar gum (if you can tolerate it and don’t have digestive issues), some coconut cream, ground flax seeds (if tolerated), cucumber (or other veg), organic cacao, fresh ginger and spice of choice. Simples 😱  Breakfast does not need to be a painful experience devoid of plant food. Do you get enough plants in your day? It’s not unusual for teens to experience breakouts & in some cases, acne.  When left alone it can self resolve but for some, treatment may be required. Not only can acne be painful but for the teenager it can lead to  feel self esteem issues. 
Often the internal system is overlooked when treating acne and young women are too often prescribed the pill which may lead to other issues 
Benzoyl peroxide & salicylic acid are typically used in prescription remedies. The benzoyl peroxide  kills the bacteria that thrive in clogged pores. However this can result in side effects such as dryness, peeling, and burning. Salicylic acid helps get rid of excess cells that can keep oil and bacteria inside pores but can also lead to redness and dryness.

My approach is to look at nutrition, stress, the gut microbiome, the hormonal system as well as recommend topical creams that support not suppress the skin. My favourite herbs to provide anti bacterial and wound healing properties are golden seal and calendula

These medicinal leaves also help support heart function ❤️ Experiment with local fresh herbs 🌿So easy to cook with, add them to sautées, soups, I even enjoy them raw!  Delicious and nutritious, eat from the Earth. 🌏

I’m so excited to share that I’m successfully reintroducing foods based on my @myviome recommendations. I added tomatoes and adzuki beans last night with no issues. Yay! It’s been 3.5 years since I had a legume. Only green beans and adzuki beans are on my Enjoy list but I haven’t had issues with either. I had tomatoes twice this week also with no trouble. And the switch from brown to white rice has also been helpful. Have you done a Viome test? What did you discover?!
