Do you ever wonder why we say, "follow your gut?" 🤔
Have you ever had a feeling about something, that later you found out was true? It happens to me all the time, and every day I learn how to better follow that God given intuition, even when logic points in the other direction.
What's cool is that there is science behind this, too! Our gut has a nervous network, the enteric nervous system, that is now being called the 2nd brain! What we feel in the gut, is also felt in the brain. When we have leaky gut, where the tight junctions allow passage of molecules that it shouldn't allow due to damage, we are also likely to get leaky brain, because the tight junctions are the SAME. This causes things like brain fog, lack of concentration, etc. 😮
We also have direct neurotransmition from the gut that can upset the brain (effect mood), just like the brain (emotions) can upset the stomach. This highlights the importance of keeping both healthy. We usually cannot control what happens, but we can control our responses, especially when it comes to the way we eat and live. Here's to wise and heathy choices, for a healthy lifestyle!
Im not sure about you but this year Ive felt some serious spiritual shifts. I am not the same person I was last year and Im continuing to grow at rapid speed. I actually feel this year like Im finally the woman I was born to be, my souls purpose has been set alight and Im on a mission to serve. I am so clear on where Im going and what I want for myself and how I want to show up for others. 💫💕
Something that I think about often is this, that so many are walking around lacking purpose, passion, desire. That are not sure what to do with their lives, nor do they think they are worthy or deserving of something else. Or it feels so far out of reach, impossible to achieve anything. Its so hard to listen to and watch people go through life on the hamster wheel, not following their gut, their intuition or their god damn dreams!
I love working with women and helping them to see their full potential, to know they are capable of so much more than they give themselves credit for. That they were destined to create a life full of magic!
If I can teach you anything from what I have learned - What you think about you bring about. What we think we turn into reality. If you believe it you can create it. Change your mindset and watch your life change. Manifestation and visualisation is real, if you dont already have one, its time to create a dream board! Jump on Pinterest today and get creative. 👏🏻💖🙌🏼
Mid week reads and notes to self.. ⏳
“When someone seeks,” said Siddhartha, “then it easily happens that his eyes see only the thing that he seeks, and he is able to find nothing, to take in nothing because he always thinks only about the thing he is seeking, because he has one goal, because he is obsessed with his goal. Seeking means: having a goal. But finding means: being free, being open, having no goal.” .

I think everyone on the low fodmap diet agrees that eating out is often a nightmare but when you get to eat out with a fellow fodmapper, it just makes life that little bit easier
I took one of closest friends @caroleparnell out for lunch to @fegouk in Banstead. They have a very extensive gluten free menu for brunch and there are actually only a few options that aren’t gluten free (pancakes being one of these)
I had the classic poached eggs on smashed avo on gluten free toast with some smoked salmon on the side. Carole had bacon and eggs with gluten free toast. Has anyone else been to a @fegouk cafe?
Neads has been using our DIGEST EASE super smoothie blend from the very beginning and LOVES IT! Thanks for the support girl, everytime I get a notification of a purchase I literally get measuring, after a little happy dance 💃 All our blends and fat burning bliss balls are VEGAN 🌱 made with the best natural plant based ingredient!

"It all began for Sylvia Freedman when she got her first period. “I was spoilt rotten. My Mum even threw a period party for me with all the women in my family. I felt quite proud that I was maturing.” “Back then, all the girls in the year above had had their periods so I felt like: yes! I’m in the club.” But Freedman wasn’t in the club." Really proud of this one. Counting down the days til the launch of the National Action Plan for Endometriosis!!!! Due to be launched end of this month.
Hopefully my viral eye infection, which has now spread to both eyes, is gone by then. Can’t see properly. No more phone, tv, laptop or driving for me today #ouchies !
Syl xx once again, huge thanks to author Hannah Bent for raising awareness!! ❤️❤️ Great article on #endometriosis by Hannah Bent for @neighbourhoodpaper ❤️ THANK YOU FOR BEING PART OF OUR CAMPAIGN TO GET #endo OUT THERE!!! Syl xx

Who else is on the bone broth bandwagon?! Sipping on it alone makes me gag 😆 but as a base for homemade soups? AMAZING with all the same benefits. Treat yourself/family to a quality broth that has been slow cooked over a long period on free range/organic bones. It is so good for healing after being unwell and boosts your gut health! 🙌
This is a super easy, super tasty pumpkin soup (it's all about local produce and cream added at the end for quality taste) 👌
Saute a large clove of garlic and diced onion before adding half a chopped up organic pumpkin and a couple of potatoes. Add your stock and refill with water to add more liquid to pot. Throw in few fresh herbs (thyme is nice) and blend once vegetables are soft. Once removed from heat stir in pure local cream, however much you like! Season and serve with crusty warm bread. So good! ❤
Let's get straight to the main reason why...
We may not realise it, but the truth is our daily skincare products and routines are causing more harm/ imbalance to our skin than our skin can repair or rejuvenate itself.
Cleansing is something we do at least once or twice a day. Although it is an important part of our daily skincare routine, it has the most potential to cause damage to our skin!
Everytime we use soap or a surfactant based cleanser, we are causing some form of damage, either to our skin's pH balance, or its lipid barrier, or to its microbiome, or all 3!
Our skin can heal itself and repair this damage, but when it is done on a daily basis, it becomes a vicious destructive cycle of damage and repair that takes up a lot of our skin's energy, time and resources.
Did you know that your skin takes 6 -9 hours to rebalance its pH? And it has to do this first before it can even start to rebuild the lipid barrier!
The older we get and the more years our skin has gone through this cycle, its ability to keep up with the damage cycle decreases.
This is when signs of stressed out skin, or skin fatigue, appear as dull, tired or lifeless looking skin, wrinkles, sensitivities, eczema, etc.
The point is the when our skin is so stressed out and overworked by this constant daily destruction- repair cycle we put it through, it has no time or energy or resources to initiate the healing process of other secondary skin concerns like scarring, wrinkles, etc that we hope to miraculously disappear everytime we put on a yoghurt tumeric avocado face mask!
When we stop, or at least consciously minimize, causing harm to our skin, when we free our skin from the destruction- repair cycle, we allow our skin lots of time, energy and resources to rejuvenate itself! And this is when your skin is able to appreciate that yogurt tumeric avocado face mask!
At K.I.S Elemental, all our skincare products are carefully crafted to cause NO harm to your skin! Check out our website link in bio for more product info!

“So, it's been 9 months since I quietly began using certain supplements. A year ago, I was needing expensive ultrasounds every other month because I kept having ovarian cysts. The doctors were concerned with their frequency and warned that surgery may be needed if this continued. Thanks to hearing others' testimonies about these supplements, I decided to try them and I haven't had any cysts since! My consistent headaches, struggles with fall allergies, frequent uti's and bouts of IBS have also all subsided! My life is better because of one person's honest testimony and I can only pray my testimony can do the same for someone else!'-Melissa ❤️

Today, I want to talk to you guys about something that absolutely impacts your level of performance and your ability to show up and be consistent every single day.
I know so many of you are pushing hard day in and day out and I also know so many of you are feeling exhausted, tired and run down and feeling exhausted over a period of time, will absolutely limit your level of performance.
When you get tired, run down and get a cold or catch the flu or a bug, it usually means your immune system is weak and you need to rest and recover before you can get back on your feet again.
Normally, I would give you guys the simple strategies I share all the time like hydrating your body, drinking green juice twice a day, exercising for energy and getting consistent rest each night. But today I'm going to give you the one strategy that will help you to boost your immune system.
The best way to boost your immune system is to be happy and as funny as that may sound, it's very true.
The one thing that absolutely weakens your immune system is stress, it is the cause of many illnesses in modern society and it is something that attacks your nervous system and your whole body.
When you're happy, when you are doing what you love and enjoy - you tend to have an abundance of energy and that flows on into other areas of your life and helps you to be more creative, more positive and more focused.
Being happy, is the cure for almost everything and is the one thing that will help you to feel more alive and feel more energized every day.
Being happy, is something you have to work at every day and that means you have to set your life up to be happy, not just wealthy or successful.
You have to start pursuing the things that put a smile on your face, have something to look forward to each day, start creating your art and investing time with people who love you and adore you.

We all have good and bad bacteria in our body. It is when the bad bacteria conquers the good , is when you will start having problems.
I for one suffered from having a high level of bad bacteria in my small intestine, which led me to always feel pain & discomfort 😩
I started taking natural probiotics like fermented cabbage and vegetables , olives & pickles, 🥒coconut kefir, 🥥apple cider vinegar🍎 and miso. I also take supplements from time time as they can be more concentrated and effective short term✨
Many of us underestimate the role of gut bacteria and how it affects many aspects on our brain and body health including digestion, immunity, allergies, mental health, appetite, cognitive health and mood.
📚Many Research studies are linking bad bacteria to autoimmune diseases and some types of cancers.
How to avoid this dilemma❓Try taking natural remedies vs over the counter medicine that disrupts the natural flora in your gut. Do intermittent fasting from time to time, enjoy your meals and chew more and for longer periods, exercise at least 4x a week, drink more herbs and eat your probiotics 💚
Well my poop told me a lot! Looks like I have some bad guys to deal with in my stomach.
Learned a lot:
-spinach is no bueno for me
-garlic is my superfood(vampires beware)
-Kale and Arugula is another superfood
-New diet will have Prebiotic, probiotic supplements
Thanks @viome and time to get my gut to the best it can be! #gut#guthealth#viome#bacteria#probiotics

Does your breakfast or brunch in this case , ever look like this ? Once in awhile I deviate from eggs/spinach/avo to freshly ground linseeds, pepitas, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds with coconut yoghurt and organic blueberries! 😋 What wholefood do you enjoy for breakfast/brunch ?
Laying it out is the first step right??? Tomorrow will be my 1st day back in the gym since May or April 😣😣😣 Disappointment doesn't even cover it😔. I have had several "excuses" come between me and the gym. Kids out of school. Continued foot issue. Lack of energy no matter what I tried. Nothing seemed to work in my favor. At all.
But tomorrow....I go back 🤗. Who knows what I'll do once I'm there. And I know I'm gonna be crazy sore regardless on Wednesday. But I'm going back. Kids will be in summer camp 2 days a week until school starts so this gives me plenty of time to secure some sort of mini routine and then full force August 22nd!!! In the last 6 months I have been in and out of doctor's offices getting tests done to try to find some answers. Still have one more doctor to see. And then I see a dietitian in August to try to come up with a better nutrition plan seeing as how Crohns and I are not BFFs currently🤨. And almost everything kills my gut. It's heartbreaking to know that what I want is hard to achieve because of this stupid ass disease.
Finding the motivation and courage to push through this barrier....is sometimes impossible. But...I'm going to give it another go. I'm going to try to become more in tune with what my body is telling me. More aware of the reactions from foods and exercise. Know my limits and when to keep pushing and when to rest. Setting realistic obtainable goals rather than gut wrenching failures due to this disease.
Wish me luck. It's gonna be a long journey. 💪💪💪 #fitness#fitmom#fitmominprogress#progressnotperfection#wellness#nutrition#crohnsdisease#ittakesguts#crohnsfighter#guthealth#findaway#day1#movingon#iammore#iamnotstuck#gymtime#metime#selfcare#weighttraining#cardio#turnyourcantsintocans#excusesdontburncalories#backtothegrind#tranformation#fitspiration
I’m trying out a new style for my photos: what do people think?
This was delicious by the way! Overnight Oats with a big blob of cashew butter and lots of fresh blueberries mixed in. I’m absolutely loving all the fresh summer fruits around at the moment! This year they seem to be especially good :)
Comfort food done right. Spelt pasta with broccoli and organic pesto all from @rhubarbrhubarborganics - an easy, delicious and nutritious meal taking all of 20 minutes to put together and great for gut loving lunchtime leftovers nom nom nom 😋
How many ounces of water did you drink today? I drank 101 ounces! 💦 Tomorrow I will shoot for 128 ounces (1 gallon!) I definitely got super hydrated today and I noticed I ate less throughout the day. Especially since I mixed in some Hunger Control Slim into some of my water! 💪🏼The blood orange flavor made it easy to get in those last few cups to reach my goal for today. Did anyone else hydrate well today?
WEEKLY NUTRITIONAL TIP / EAT YOUR DAILY NUTS \ They may only seem small but they're packed full of nutrients.
❓DID YOU KNOW: Nuts are rich in heart-healthy unsaturated fat, gut friendly fibre, protein for growth and repair and skin boosting vitamin E. 👐WE RECOMMEND: 1 portion a day = small handful, golf ball size portion or 23 almonds. Sprinkle walnuts on salad, cashews in a stir-fry, pine nuts on pasta or enjoy them in our Raw Power Mix. #thefooddoctor#bitesizepositivity#guthealth#fibre#protein#snacks#nutrition#healthy
Take a breath ✨
Also how delicious are figs 😍
A single fig contains 22 calories and 4g of sugar, along with being rich in minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and vitamins A, E and K.
Should you be cutting back on fruits when reducing your sugar intake? That’s the topic of this weeks blog post so keep an eye out when it goes live 🤗 📷: @goodful

✖️ Physique update / Digestion Update✖️
I woke up weighing the heaviest I have ever at 204.4, now did me eating late and the vast majority of my macros last night play a factor, yes it did but I’m not making an excuse for my emotional eating having lead to that. If you have been following my story I’ve been #cleaningupthediet and I have been focusing on incorporating more nutrient dense foods and meals and prioritizing my nutrients come from those foods.
I did incorporate a little dairy these past couple of days and have noticed immediately a difference in my digestion and the way I feel and I am glad I have an awareness for what foods allow me to feel and perform at my best.
So I am going to mini cut for a about a week or two just because I feel my weight has shot up and want to tame that a bit and bring it down.
This week my goals are to
- Incorporate some cardio
- Achieve 10,000 steps a day to keep my “NEAT” up!
- Focus on my nutrition (always should be first)
- Prioritize sleep 6-8 hours
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
- Listen to my body (applies to my training and intensity)
What are your goals for this week? What are you working towards??
Pursue your Purpose.
Why I started drinking hot water...
Now I just would like to share, thanks to my beautiful friend @rebecca__jane__ ..she showed me this book she had been reading about Ayurveda written by the beautiful @iamsahararose and I literally have been so inspired since reading it. (FYI The book is called: Ayurveda (idiots guide)) Ayurveda for those of you who don’t know what it is, is Sanskrit for “the science of life” one of the worlds oldest health systems starting in India over 5000 years ago! (going back to ma roots guys) This book is full of so many interesting old natural science ways of healing (+ more) and Hot water is ust a small small snippet of what I have taken out of this book (because I haven’t finished #slowreader ) and thought I should share with others to give it a try! .
1. It’s hydrating (apparently more so)
2. It helps stimulate digestion
3. Aids cleansing
Now obviously I’m not nutritionists or any gut expert and can’t say this is for you and what you must do, but what I can vouch for is since having hot water for myself before every meal or now just as my source of water, my tummy feels less aggravated and less bloated all the time, something I’ve always had a problem with after eating! I feel satisfied after meals, I feel nice and soothed through my whole body as the warm water makes me feel nice cosy in this chilly winter, and it’s helped with digestive movements too! One thing I learnt from my friend @thedietitiansdiary don’t be afraid to discuss your 💩 movements because it’s vital to gut health! (Speaking of Gut health! Did you know she’s a full fledge dietitian now! If you want to speak to someone about nutrition ask Sarah how she can help you today! 🤗) Mind Body connection is crucial and as an advocate of that connection I’ve found the way hot water makes me feel has helped in the way I think feel and move, and I think I get even more water into me now too! I use to drink lots of cold water before hand as well but have found lots of differences in the way my tummy feels just by changing the temp! 🔥 CRAZY 🤷🏽♀️ .
Why is gut health important for you? 💁🏼♀️Because your body was created to have those little probiotics... and it needs them to work well!! Because of all the reasons listed below, your gut is MOST certainly out of whack which can leave you with a huge list of symptoms! (Anxiety, depression, bloating, IBS, allergies, eczema... So many more!) Top 7 Probiotic Killers: 🔹 Prescription antibiotics 🔹 Excessive sugar intake 🔹 Drinking tap water (chlorine and fluoride) 🔹 GMO foods 🔹 Eating too many whole grains (plus gluten) 🔹 Emotional stress 🔹 Exposure to toxins and pesticides
What are prebiotics? Probiotics and prebiotics work together in a symbiotic relationship, so if you have one but not the other you aren’t reaping all possible benefits.
The role of prebiotics is to nurture and encourage probiotics to grow and multiply. Prebiotics are plant fibers that pass through your system undigested until they reach the colon, where they are fermented, helping probiotics flourish and bring you back into balance much more quickly than a probiotic alone can.
For a synergistic mix of probiotics and prebiotics, ask your pharmacist for Fermentflor forte (or junior for your little ones).
For more information kindly contact E. J. Busuttil Ltd on +356 21 447184.
Tomorrow my husband has a colonoscopy and then he’s mine for 30 days...at least, lol. Hopefully tomorrow will be all clear and we can reverse his pre-diabetic diagnosis by sticking to an #alkaline way of eating through the #arbonne#30daystohealthyliving 🥑 I will keep everyone posted right here on the results.
LOW CARB STICKY RIBS TO DIE FOR
They have to be one of the most fun, yet most messy things to eat. But that’s the whole point right? I mean, if you aren't licking sticky sauce from your fingers are you even eating BBQ ribs??
Many of us associate BBQ ribs with unhealthy take-away - cheap meat coated with a sweet sauce generally made with lashings of sugars and syrups. Which for the low-carbers amongst us makes these a no-go.
UNTIL NOW! This week @pennybenjamin.nutritionist shares the ultimate finger licking, low carb recipe for all you rib lovers out there. Not only are these epic ribs sugar free & keto friendly, but come with 2 bonus sides recipes both low carb and filled with gut healing goodness!
I road tested these myself lastnight. The verdict: 10/10. Do yourself a favour : link in bio
