Carbs. A word we’ve been taught to hate by the weight loss dieting movements. But did you know, your brain functions from carbohydrates? Also your muscles take glucose derived from carbohydrates and use it to keep moving and working! There’s a reason that carbohydrates are called a macronutrient, because we still need them! 
Often times it’s the type of carbs we’re choosing that gets us in a pickle. Some with severe hormone issues have to be very careful about the amounts and types of carbs they eat. Other times people who suffer from hypoglycaemia need carbs in their diet. Gotta love that balance! 
And tis the season! We’re headed into winter in the northern hemisphere so bring on the stews, roasted sweet potatoes and carrots! 🖤 Jenn

As the weather is warming up I naturally feel drawn to more raw food- crunchy and  juicy. I love making salad boats with some coriander guacamole, grated carrots & sauerkraut for an energising lunch snack. There is such satisfaction in eating the whole food by itself and really appreciating its’ texture & flavour. And my body likes the simplicity too- I digest better and have more energy! #simplicity

Life is not easy for ANYONE. We all have something we battle––may it be physical, mental, or spiritual––sometimes it's all three. So what do I do? Well, after I curl up in a little ball on the floor in front of Mike's desk and just cry it out...for awhile. I tell myself I am a warrior agmonst millions of others in battle. I remind myself that 'I am gifted for something and that this thing be attained'. So I get up, and keep fighting in confidence of that 'thing' that's going to come. And I picture it huge, epic, and revolutionary––and you can't do those things while laying on mat. You have to fight.💪🏻

....and please don't forget homemade banana bread, making your dog dance like a human to 90's pop, and online shopping at Target––those always help too 🙃

Mother Nature puts anti-nutritional factors and toxins in grains, nuts, seeds, beans, vegetables and fruit for a variety of reasons. For example, block seeds from sprouting prematurely, to harm insects, animals and other predators including humans that would otherwise eat too many of them. Plants produce inhibitors and other anti-nutrients to save the plant species. Although it might sound like a “rotten idea,” squirrels are smart to bury nuts in the ground, then dig them up and eat them weeks and months later. Similarly, people in traditional cultures all over the world process their grains, nuts, seeds and beans by a process akin to pre-digestion before cooking and eating them.

Cooking deactivates most of the protease inhibitors. But given the growing tendency to fill up on plant foods, and the fashionability of “live food” (raw) vegan diets, more and more people are eating foods with their protease inhibitor content intact. Ppl believe their diets provide plenty of protein, but in fact protein swallowed is not the same as protein digested when protease inhibitors are in the picture.

The measure of good food is not just the vitamins and minerals it contains, but how the food interacts with the body.
Cooked food is much easier to digest, but cooking destroys some vitamins and minerals. However, the vitamins left can be easily digested and assimilated by the body without further compromise to the digestive system. The body is very efficient and a small amount of vitamins and minerals can go a long way if your body can get them.

CONCLUSION: Blanch or cook your vegetables and greens, activate nuts, eat fermented sourdough bread.

Little lemon almond cake. I used aquafaba for the first time in baking to help with lightness in a normally dense cake, it was so lovely. 10/10
Blueberry compote is flavoured with berry tea and thickened with konjac fibre. My tea went black from using berry tea and adding a pinch of baking soda so the soy wouldnt curdle 😄 it tasted fine, it just looks like charcoal tea.

Little lemon almond cake. I used aquafaba for the first time in baking to help with lightness in a normally dense cake, it was so lovely. 10/10 Blueberry compote is flavoured with berry tea and thickened with konjac fibre. Can’t wait until this batch is fermented and ready to eat!! TURMERIC SAURKRAUT

1 whole drumhead cabbage, sliced
1/2 sweet potato, grated
3 carrots, grated
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small knob of ginger, finely chopped
2 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon turmeric powder

Massage cabbage & sea salt together for roughly 5 minutes, until cabbage has broken down, reduced in quantity & released a lot of juice.
Add remaining ingredients, massage for a further 5 minutes. Portion into sterilised jars, leaving about an inch or so between the kraut & the lid as it will expand. Make sure the mix is completely covered in the liquid, if you need some more use filtered water or cooled boiled water, but you shouldn’t need to top it up. Put lids on jars and leave in cupboard anywhere from a couple of days to a week, taking the lids off and releasing the gases every 24 hours or so. Once it’s reached your desired fermentation, store in the fridge & tuck in!

When I travel I find it quite challenging  to stick to a certain diet. But when I am home I do enjoy to cook healthy meals  and discover new recipes. For the past 6 months I've been on a journey to heal my gut, so constantly looking for delicious "gut- friendly" recipes. I just found this one -delicious Turmeric Zucchini soup😋 It is simple and easy to make. .
You will need:
-2 pounds Zucchini (trimmed and chopped)
-1 tbsp. minced garlic
- about 3 cups veggie stock
-1/5 cup coconut milk (I like the one in a can)
- 1 cup chopped yellow onion
- 1tbsp coconut oil - 2 tsp. curry or turmeric powder - 1 tbsp apple cider 
Chopped cilantro for garnish,  salt, pepper.

1. Cook garlic and onion in coconut oil ( untill soft, about 3 mins).Add the curry or turmeric powder, salt stir and cook for a couple of mins. 
2. Add the Zucchini, stir and cook for 5-6 mins, add the stock and bring to boil. Simmer untill the zucchini is very tender.
3. Puree the zucchini mix in a blender, add apple vinegar and  return to medium heat, stir in coconut milk for about 3 mins. 
4. Garnish with cilantro (I like to add pumpkin seeds as well). Enjoy😋💛 .

As a consequence, your body goes into starvation mode, and it triggers the signal to eat. So, you start eating and eating, and inevitably you stop the diet----and that’s the classic rebound weight gain scenario. And to make matters worse, when you lose weight, only about half of what is lost is fat, and the rest is valuable metabolically active muscle. Yet, when someone regains the weight, it’s nearly completely fat. Oh…that’s interesting. Now, here is something that’s important----muscle cells burn 70X more calories than fat cells. So, if you, when you go on a diet and you lose muscle, but you regain the weight and it’s nearly completely fat, then what that means is that yo-yo dieting makes you lose a big part of your metabolic engine. So, if you’ve been through a number of diets like I have, and they failed, then your body has been through this process a number of times. And ultimately, since dieting makes you fat, what you want to get away from, we don’t want to be in the diet mentality any more. What we’re undertaking together this will be a big challenge, is a way of eating. Not a diet.

I love this kid. It was her turn to visit the dentist (first time) and she was SO excited. She made friends with most of the office, happily got her teeth polished, chose a sticky hand AND ring (she was offered 2 prizes), and was very sincerely interested in all the hygienist and dentist had to say.
What did the dentist have to say? Well, no cavities. But he was also very interested in what kind of vitamins and probiotics we were giving her. He was relieved that we were staying away from gummy vitamins. They are so full of sugar and get stuck in teeth. In the dental world, they are as bad as candy. Okay, so I actually knew that. But here’s what I did not know. Dentist’s hate gummy probiotics even more. Why??? Yes, they are full of sugar and sticky. But the lactobacillus in gummy probiotics gets stuck in teeth and is cariogenic. My personal favorite is the portobella pizza but all of these are great fun options you can make at home. Get crazy with it and add some fun toppings of choice! Info below:

Bell pepper pizza - 1/2 bell pepper, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese + 2 broccoli florets.

Portable pizza - 1/2 Portabella mushroom cap, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese, 2 basil leaves, 1 olive cut into slices.

Zucchini pizza boats - 1/2 zucchini, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mixed cheese, 2 cherry tomatoes.

Rice cake pizza - 1 rice cake, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 basil leaves, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese.

Pita pizza - 1 medium pita, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese, 2 basil leaves + 3 cherry tomatoes.

How to cook the veggie pizzas:
1 - Preheat oven to 350F.
2 - Scoop out the inside of the mushroom, bell pepper or zucchini boat (you can cook the bell pepper or zucchini in oven before adding toppings or add toppings then cook if you don’t need it well done. Mushroom you can add the toppings right away & cook) 
3 - Add 1/4 cup marinara, toppings & cheese
4 - Bake in oven for about 10 minutes then enjoy!
