Marcus Smart (@youngamechanger)! First and foremost, congratulations to Marcus for signing his new deal and staying with the Boston Celtics! He has been an essential piece contributing to the Celtics' success last year, being the high intensity glue guy coming off the bench. I'm sure there's a bunch of haters out there disgusted by his antics and poor scoring efficiency, but I'm confident to say that he is a player coaches would want on their team when it matters the most. His effort, hustle and will to win are underrated factors that impact the outcome of each game, especially in the playoffs. People might knock him for his shot selection as well, but I'd argue that he keeps the defense honest. He might not be automatic from downtown, but he is capable of hitting the biggest shots so opposing teams still need to defend him. Shoutout to Boston for keeping him, it is definitely a good move if they want to get deep in the post-season. Like, share, leave a comment!

When I think of it Friends; they are like petals on a flower; together they're beautiful and make people smile but eventually some petals fall off and drift off in the wind and go their own..
The older I get, the more I realize that friendships evolve just as much as people do and it's OK to become strangers with people who were once your sisters, and become sisters with people who were once strangers... I am a firm believer that people come into your life for a reason... whether it be for 20 years, 2 years or 2 minutes. They all taught you something, about life or about yourself... It used to make me sad to feel my old best friends become strangers when we would reunite but then I realize that's just life...GROWTH... especially as my own family grew, my circle got smaller, I had less in common with the ones I spent most of my adolesence with and it was OK to embrace the change!
I am right where I need to be, surrounded by those who I need to be surrounded by... But one thing I have learned over the years is, the amount of years you've known someone doesn't matter if they no longer touch your soul. Let them venture down their path and you go down yours👌
As Simon Sinek famously stated, “people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it“. Your “purpose” is the foundation of your ability to be effective in your role, and will continue to fuel your growth. Understanding your “why” will help you be more effective in your current and future roles. #mypurpose#changetheworld#sharethelove#bebold#grit

When it came to supplying the chefs competing in this year’s 3 Cities Chef Challenge with backup in the kitchen we knew exactly where to look- @culinaryinstituteofva . CIV consistently turns out tomorrow’s leaders in our local kitchens, and standout student Ahmard Neely who will back up @regularchef is no exception.
Neely spent 5 ½ years in the US Navy as a culinary specialist, and now the 27-year-old from West Point, MS will graduate CIV shortly and plans to return to the institute in November to continue his culinary education with a focus in nutrition. Neely has participated in culinary competitions before, and is looking forward to being a part of the 3 Cities Chef Challenge. As he says, “I like to see other people do things in the kitchen, and I now know what I’m capable of in the kitchen.” For more on CIV visit www.chefva.com

In the greatest sense, I love running because it’s about challenging yourself and learning to do what you couldn’t do before. It’s about finding a balance between pushing yourself and caring for yourself and those who care for you! Grateful for some great teammates during a 5 mile tempo this morning (6:24 pace) especially @scorpiorunner for the extra motivation. 💙💙💙 6x30 sec strides post tempo, 12 miles total.
Southern Grit is pleased to begin announcing the industry judges for the 3 Cities Chef Challenge Part 2 that will help determine the chef with the best dish of the night on August 3rd at @sweetwater_cuisine
The first industry judge is Chef Jon Scheidt. Scheidt, a Maryland transplant to Hampton Roads, was the long time sous chef at Nouvelle Restaurant upon his arrival to the seven cities before taking the reins alongside Jamie McGuffey at @streatsghent. Scheidt won the 2017 Young Guns of the Industry Chefs competition dinner at Bay Local, and has been featured on the cover of Southern Grit Magazine. His food has also been featured in other Hampton Roads publications, and Scheidt has earned quite the reputation among the public and his peers for making delicious street food inspired fare in the heart of Ghent at Streats.

The little engine that could?
No, guess again. it’s the little tree that could.
Determination. Resilience. Starting from small beginnings. Being the lone little tree that could. And did. And persevered.
This is perhaps New Zealand’s most famous—and most photographed—tree.
But first I must tell you the treacherous drive required to get to That Wanaka Tree.
We had to climb Highway 6, the road to Wanaka from Queenstown, that seemed to go straight up the mountain. Which was more like a path, not a highway, up the steep side of a cliff outfacing. This is New Zealand after all. Where everything seems larger than life, and all of nature is on a scale that I could never even imagine.
The “highway” is littered with rocks that have tumbled into the road from the sheer cliff faces above the road. I kid you not. Drivers beware. Hailing from the USA and not fond of heights, I had to learn to drive hairpin turns—on the LEFT side of the road—while trying not to hit a rock or get run over by the insanely skilled New Zealand drivers who I am sure could drive this route with their eyes closed.
So this was the adventurous path to get to this little tree on a lake nestled in the mountains. A challenge in determination and perseverance in and of itself.
And, man, was it worth it.
A local who is still alive remembers this tree back in 1939—over 78 years ago. The tree was a tiny willow that was a fencepost in a fence line to contain sheep. She (I am sure she is a female tree, for she is strong) barely held up the wire that ran along the line, for she was small.
But then something miraculous happened. She took root and grew. And persevered. And stood the test of time through winters, storms, and wind.
And she remains today as the wildly popular, singular tree in the middle of Lake Wanaka. As a symbol of how endurance and willpower wins.
For all of you out there who are struggling with something. Maybe you are starting a new business. Or battling a disease. Or starting from small beginnings. Or you feel like a lone voice in the world trying to make a change in a sea of noise, anger, or confusion.
Be strong like the willow. Be strong like That Wanaka Tree.
Catching up with old college friends can be a tremendous blessing. You know that friend that you just pick up right where you left off. Well that’s my girl @erincurtis08!! I am so grateful to have a great group of girlfriends!
Everyone who knows me know how much I stress personal development!!! Mental growth being at the top of my personal hierarchy! Followed by nutrition 🍎🥦🥑🍳🍕🍟 (85% healthy, 15% fun) and lastly movement!!😅 I don’t share a lot of physical results usually more because I’m focussed on the internal results first. (Not that physical results are bad!!) I truly believe that when you constantly work on your mindset, physical results are more authentic and flow a lot more naturally. Your mental transformation is what will give you that grit to stay persistent in whatever goals you strive to reach.
However I will TELL YOU.....speaking physical results 80 Day Obsession did a number to my bootay!!! 🙈🤣🍑 I’m totally proud of it but also ECSTATIC about how much stronger I got throughout the entirety of this program.
I’m telling you....if I can do it....SO CAN YOU! 💥💥 ————— In my mind you’re winning if physical fitness -makes you STRONGER
-gives you VITALITY each day
-helps you overcome something in your personal life
-makes you happier -makes you a more confident person -helps you be a better person to the ones around you
-helps you stay focussed and present in life -helps keep you open-minded -helps you stay grounded to your authentic self
These ☝️☝️☝️ are the WINS in my book! But I thought I’d share this result with you!! 💜 ——————— PS - This girl is FINALLY going to become an INSANITY LIVE INSTRUCTOR in AUGUST!!! 🙌🙌 Seriously CANNOT WAIT!!
