Hooray! It's @justacard indie week. All this week I'll be posting about the joys of independent retailers, small businesses and shopping small this Christmas, hopefully getting more people on board with Just a Card's brilliant campaign.
So today's prompt is have you met: Me. I wanted to take a nice selfie of me with some of my stuff - but the outtakes are way funnier, so here they are!
I'm Ellie, I'm nearly 35, and I have 3 little girls, so I don't get as much done ever as I want to! I'm an illustrator and designer based in Cornwall.
My 10 facts about me are:
1. I first became a keen artist when I won a crayola competition aged 3.
2. I can't take selfies (I refuse to use my phones awful face beauty mode thing) so these are on a dslr - hence the weird poses.
3. I love photography as well as drawing
4. I'm running late today and have been since 7.30
5. I went to York uni to study politics, but quit to go to Art school. I'm. So glad I did, on so many levels.
6. I was a teacher until 2017, when the birth of my youngest, and subsequent fall-out forced me to quit.
7. I love sea swimming and outdoor sports.
8. I love France
9. I'm a bit of a hippy - I love nature, and had a zen home birth with my middle daughter.
10. At the age of 34 I finally have learnt to do monkey bars 🙊
Start of Indie week!! So here goes for day one, 10 facts about me, harder than you think! 1. I live in a leamington Spa with my Hubby, 11 year old son and two crazy border terriers! 2. I only have 4 shifts left working as a sales assistant until I finish to run my business full time. 3. I have been driving for about 5 years but still don’t feel confident enough to drive further than Warwick and leamington 🚙 4. Greetings cards have become a bit of an obsession. With over 20years working within the card industry it’s hard not to. 5. First job I had that I learnt a lot about customer service was at a gift shop in Cromer. Little did I know when I started the job that the owner would become my sister-in-law!! 6. I always feel drawn to artwork of trees, love walking in woodlands yet I hate the trees in my little garden- not so enjoyable clearing up leaves this time of year just so I can find the dog poops in the garden 🤣. 7. My nearly 12 year old son loves to join in with brainstorming new card designs for the business- priceless & heart warming! 8. My favourite film is How to train a dragon and I seriously can’t wait for the new film to come out next year!! Who said a 38year old fav film can’t be an animation!! 😁 9. I am starting to get quite a few grey hairs but I intend to embrace it rather than cover it up!! 10. Never been on a girly holiday before so guess what I’m planning for my 40th?!?! 🌴 @justacard #justacard#indieweek#independantbusiness#independantbusinessowner#aboutme#hello#greetingscards#handmade#localbusiness#shoplocal#shopindependant#shopsmall#supportsmallbusiness#handmade

I don't know if you can tell but I am VERY excited!! Have a great week all!
@emilybrooksuk is a woman with many talents. She's a mother to two young boys, trained as a psychotherapist, does public speaking but is best known for her brilliant greetings cards. We met a while back in our local coffee shop, tapping away on our laptops. We couldn't resist chatting and have distracted each other many times since.
Her involvement in my book came about because I was working on the section about branding and Emily was able to share some great ideas about logos - why they matter, where they appear and what they mean. Also, the evolution of a logo. And on another day, when I was writing tips for staying motivated during the work day, Emily again offered her wisdom.
She and her brand are going to soon take over the world, starting with her most recent contract with @frompaperchase. Well-deserved. Xx

I create these by painting, and printing with inks, as well as free machine embroidery all by hand for that unique one of a kind approach to each art piece or greetings card.
I have ranges inspired by all things floral and found in nature, as well as more seasonal and commercial designs too.
I except commissions and can create bespoke art pieces and cards for all occasions to cater for everyone.
