🌟Psyche was an incredibly beautiful mortal woman. She was so beautiful that even the goddess Aphrodite was jealous of her and told her son Eros to make Psyche fall in love with the ugliest man in Greece. But instead Eros fell in love with Psyche himself, and she lived with him as his wife in secret. However he forbade him to look at her and only visited her at night. One night after her sisters had visited Psyche began to doubt who she had fallen in love with. As he slept she held an oil lamp over him and oil fell from the lamp onto him. He fled, devastated she had broken his rule. Psyche begged Aphrodite to allow her to be with Eros again. Psyche had to complete impossible tasks like sorting through grain, stealing wool from vicious sheep, getting water from a river guarded by giant serpents and going to the underworld and bring back some of Pandoras beauty in a box. Aphrodite still would still not allow Psyche to be with her son and so Psyche begged Zeus for help. Zeus brought her to Mount Olympus and made her immortal so she could be with Eros at last. She and Aphrodite reconciled.🌟 Psyches message is a very relevant one for the modern world. It is about the joy that we all feel at first when we fall in love and the fears, doubts and insecurities that rise to the surface later. Psyche reminds us that in order to have a healthy relationship with anyone else we must first have a healthy relationship to ourselves. This can mean doing a lot of work and releasing our emotional baggage of the past, it is a difficult and often stressful process but also very necessary or we block our ability to love ourselves and to be open to receiving love from others. 💞
It is important to acknowldge any wounds you carry as being valid and real, and to be gentle with yourself aa you process the pain of them. Remember that once you reach the other side of this process you will look back and than yourself for doing what allowed you to grow and get stronger as a person. 😊
Aside from this being taken at the foot of the Acropolis which is pretty rad itself, this place was a healing center back in 400 BC 👨🏼⚕️I had to have a shot here 📸 I learned so much about Ancient Greek medicine from our tour guide 💡Greeks came from near and far to be healed by doctors that knew much more than I would have thought. Interesting enough, I noticed a lot of parrallels between Ancient Greek medicine, Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine...things that most western doctors no longer believe or practice 🤔 #wowzers
