Im waiting to see the newly dead across Acheron to go to Hades. The "river of woe" one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld.A place of healing, not a place of panishment, cleansing and purging the sins of humans....

🌍Shades of leaving: Peloponnese🌍
Founded around 360 B.C., Ancient Messene is a place where you can really sense how people used to live their every day life. As you arrive, the first thing you see is the incredibly well conserved theatre and you can choose between accessing to it from the top, walking through the grass that embraces the ruins, or you can walk on the outer side of the walls and climb one of the several stairs, having your breath taken away the moment that all of a sudden your gaze goes from the stones to the full view of the place. Going ahead you get to see the baths, where also Roman statues are to be found, along with the houses where it is easy to imagine people having their meals just before going out to have a look at the mountain sky. And then how not to mention the amazing stadium, that gets bigger and bigger as you approach it until you don't know where to look because it is all around you. Going down through the steps, next to the arena there is the throne where the lives of the Gladiatores where in the King's hands (or better in the lion's paws, that decorate it). At the other end of the stadium, a sanctuary erected upon huge stone walls leads you to the small, simple yet overwhelming cemetery, as a reminder that even the most strong of us can't win the very last battle.

On the very first day, arriving in Patras, we rushed to the Ancient Site of Olympia followed by a not so good weather. While we were wondering if it could be possible to walk through the ruins in the rain, the clouds opened and a warm sun layed its gentle rays on the site so we got the chance to visit this amazing piece of history. This is were the first olimpic games have taken place nearly 3000 years ago, where the word "Ekecherìa" was shouted and its echo meant that any war was suspended in order to make the athletes arrive safely in town. Cicadas sing while you walk through this mix of history, nature, sweat and hopes, like an ancient chant that really puts you into the mood. Here there is a column from the destroyed but recognizable Temple of Zeus, a view of Nerone's house (F.F.: he loved to practice acting in Greek) and last but not least, the stadium in all its greatness (F.F.2: I tried to run through it, losing my breath at like the second step and it took me half an hour to function properly again). .
