Grain harvest in progress.. Kamut wheat
Faust hulless barley
Hard red winter wheat
Anyone recognize that dark grain? I'm sure I've got it written down somewhere.
Edit: maybe Tibetan Hulless Barley..? And cleaning that Einkhorn wheat makes it clear why modern wheat was developed..ugh.
Rice is the second cereal with the highest production in the world, after corn.
In comparison with other cereals, it stands out for having less dietary fiber which makes it more digestive.
Adding grains into salads kicks it up a notch in my book. Farro is a favorite grain that works well in salads. I learned how to make a great Farro salad in Vinci, Italy. I was all set to send you to a link in my blog with this salad adventure and realized that I never wrote a blog on this cooking class experience. #barley#Barley &edamame #Christina 'sFoodandTravel #Dinner#Grains#Lunch#roastedredpeppers#Vegetables https://christinasfoodandtravel.com/a-grainy-experience-barley-edamame-salad-with-red-pepper-sauce/
Remember those plantain #tacos from last night (picture is on my Facebook and Instagram feed)? Plantain tortillas aren’t great the next day, but I don’t always feel like making more to use up leftover #taco ingredients. I instead opened a bag of @jacksonshonest sweet potato chips and served them with an assortment of dips, sort of like eating #nachos but without the #grains and #dairy . Jackson’s Honest brand chips are cooked in organic #coconutoil , which makes them a really great option for a healthy packaged food. Processed oils are either created in a way that can cause oxidative damage to cells, use #geneticallymodified ingredients, contain high levels of pesticides like #glyphosate , or quite likely all of the above. I’m not one to #fearthefat , but I am one to fear the chemicals and #gmos . If you’re not ready to change your diet, just start by upgrading some of the food you’re already eating.
Why we should be soaking our nuts and grains?
The reason being is that nuts contain phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors. Both grains, legumes, and nuts contain phytic acids. Phytic acid impairs the absorption of minerals such as iron, zinc, and calcium, which is why phytic acid is referred to as an anti-nutrient. Nuts also have enzyme inhibitors which makes it difficult for us to properly digest and absorb nutrients. Raw nuts are hard for our body to digest and the only way of neutralizing this enzyme is to soak the nuts.
I hope this helps you realize to start soaking your grains, nuts, and legumes before cooking or preparing your favorite meals. I now soak any legume, nut, or grain I buy and rarely have any stomach discomfort or gas, bloating feeling after eating these foods. Thank you for being here and taking the time to read this. May this help you and if so, share this with those you love.

Nearly every illness is somehow related to what we put in and on our bodies. What I eat these days is critical to my health. So I have become more aggressive. 70% raw or uncooked and 30% cooked. It takes a bit of creativity, but I’m here for it. I have also found that I don’t have to cook as much. 😊🙌🏽 🥑
It doesn’t have to be difficult to change your dietary habits. Replace one food item at a time. 🍒
What food item do you feel would be most challenging to replace?
I contacted @burleighbrewing years ago about canning this beer as it was only available from the brewery in a tally. When I spotted this at @senseoftaste_ I nearly bloody cried.
This beer is amazing! The roast is unreal and the flavour makes your mouth water. Perfect lager!
