Several figures from the Maestà Altarpiece, (1308-1311) Gold and tempera on panel, 370 x450 cm, Siena, Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. Duccio di Buoninsegna (c.1255, Siena, 1319, Siena), founder of the Siena School, and is considered to be a key figure in the development of the Gothic style in Italy, whose artistic height may be compared to that of the great Giotto and Cimabue in the Florentine painting. The Italo-Byzantine tradition is followed into the work of Duccio, though making a clear evolution from its classical roots so as to make way to the new Gothic forms characteristic of his art.
Duccio may have had had a major influence on Simone Martini and the brothers Ambrogio and Pietro Lorenzetti, among others artists of the time. When finished, this large artwork must surely have surprised everybody by its bewildering inventiveness as it has not been seen before in the painting Sienese environment before (not, in all Italy!) On this unusually big, large panel narrative there is the presence of the Virgin Enthroned with the Holy Infant accompanied by Saints and Angels; on top of it, we must not forget the series of narratives depicted on the predellas and pertaining to the life of the Virgin and the infancy of Christ.
The well-deserved fame of the Maestà, made artists flock to Siena (people in general), and Duccio's influence had the correspondent impact on the style of Sienese art since then. Duccio's linear and decorative style, which used gold and strong was still common among the Sienese artists of the following decades after the dead of the maestro.
This is probably the greatest panel ever produced in Italian lands. Though I have no presented the full picture of the work in this post, with the Virgin and Holy Infant enthroned in the center of the painting, I urge you all to go and see in his full view as this a really amazing piece of artistry of the Italian Gothic. Exquisite handle of palette is shown by Duccio in his superb painting, while his soft but technically irreproachable draughtsmanship makes the whole composition magnificence. A jewel of the early Gothic style.

I see the fire in your eyes - our flame burning with desire your lips so moist with lies; teeth about to bite baby bring fight I’m ready to cover your heart. Blanket it with a kiss, the red of the blood on my chest you wear me like a vest. Smarter than the rest I see right through you Mrs. Jet Black-er than the Darker Soul sharpening your blade. Such a lovely way: I’ll lick the knife and let the tip slice my tongue all over you sweetly remembering the ways you storm the few over villains that crawl the Earth, we’ll bring it all the way up to the day we’re found. Just let them fight and sound the alarm as I rip through your neck; let them bring the harm as we spew the venom like a web and cover all the dead that walk the Earth claiming freedom but without a head on their shoulders we’ll show them the only way to be real; as you feel the skin on my body digging your nails through my soul - the only way you have me, kissing on my lip chewing on my face breaking the skin; spreading your embrace showing me within..”#poetry#writing#zombies#dark#gothic#beats#club#writersofinstagram#energy#gaming#dj#goth#mix#crowd#rebel#morbid#vampires#rapture#fashion#alternative#model#audiopoetry#poem#hellonearth#horror#darkwave#music#drumandbass
