Last week in Toronto where the haze wasn't covering the sun. For my non-local friends the skies back here in Vancouver are extremely smokey with over 500 forest fires blazing and the air quality miles away is a still a max 10/10 on the stay indoors scale.
Puts things in to perspective and increases appreciation for rain and fresh air which is easy to take for granted since we live in a rain forest. (And not one but two photo bombers). #sunshine#science#globalwarming#haze#bcwildfires#pnw#rainforest#northvancouver#foresfires
A picture from the ground doesn't quite do the Ilulissat Icefjord justice. Most satellite images will show the 80 km span of the fjord as a solid mass of white. Upstream, at its head, the Greenland ice sheet spills ice directly into the sea at a prolific rate, Some 5-10% of the ice cap's total output comes through this fjord, congesting it with what seems to be a solid sheet of ice: bergy-bits and icebergs, some of which still look exactly like the glacial front. Each day, some 20 meters of this river of ice flows on through to the ocean, a profound amount, and the largest in the northern hemisphere. *
However, the other side of this spectacular sight is the story it tells about our advancing climate change. 150 years ago, the glacier extended halfway down the fjord. Today it continues to advance up the fjord and toward the shrinking Greenland ice cap.
Finally some good environmental news out of the Brazilian Amazon! The reforestation project hopes to cover 70,000 acres in new forests. Given a chance, nature can come back.

Typical Vegan🌱 Dinner in our house these days 😍 - Going vegan is one of the best choices I have made in my life and my Family. So what's in the bowl? Loads of Kale dressed with apple cider vinegar and tahini, avocado, mushrooms, homemade hummus! Black beans, broccoli, pumpkin seeds, tomatoes and cucumber!! I would have never thought about eating all of that.. But the results are clear and 5 months postpartum with my 3rd baby I have loads of energy and I'm in better shape then before I had my kids 🙌 #globalfootprints#globalwarming#veganfamily#futureisvegan#vegankids#goingvegan#canadianvegan#veganmom

Today I was arrested for peacefully exercising my civil right to protest by colonial state powers on unceded Coast Salish territory. Thank you to the Indigenous Elders, activists, organizers and friends for their tireless work and support.
Since Prime Minister Trudeau has continued to violate Indigenous Rights enshrined in Canadian and international law, we must defend the Indigenous communities who have strongly expressed that they do NOT consent to the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion. As a 6th generation uninvited settler of this land, I feel the need to stand alongside the First Nations people, who have been disenfranchised and exploited since my colonial ancestors, in the fight for decolonization. Not only has Trudeau ignored their explicit rejection of the project, but he offered $4.5 BILLION to buy the existing, leaky pipeline and the expansion project is another $10 billion. That is $11.3 billion more than it would take to provide clean water to First Nations communities on reserves. Despite Prime Minister Trudeau touting Canada’s respect for Indigenous people and his commitment to curbing climate change, his actions prove that this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Trudeau is currently in BC on a fundraising tour while residents across the province are fleeing their homes from wildfires as the BC government declared a state of emergency. Smoke from 560+ wildfires have blanketed our sky and filled our lungs. We are currently living the effects of climate change and Trudeau is refusing to acknowledge or speak about it. This demonstrates how truly disconnected he is from the everyday realities of the people he was elected to serve. Growing up with immense privilege, wealth and political power, our Prime Minister has more in common with the corporate executives and the political elite. He is more interested in lining his pockets from big Texas oil companies like Kinder Morgan that he is interested in investing in communities, renewable energy and stopping climate change. There is no justification for investing in the dying oil industry in this day and age.
Please, please come out and support the resistance. Visit the Coast Protectors fb page for more.
Watch #Seattle disappear into a cloud of #wildfire smoke.⠀
Public health experts treat wildfire smoke as a pollutant, similar in many ways to ozone or automobile emissions. Breathing it can be hazardous to your health, particularly for sensitive groups like children, the elderly and those with lung or heart disease.⠀
So far 2018′s wildfire season has been a busy one, with a total year-to-date acreage burned well above the 10-year average. If that trend continues, expect more smoky skies heading into fall.⠀

Haven't been hiking recently due to laziness, haziness, and finally starting work. I want to go on another one soon, but I also want to be able to breathe. These fires have been insane and relentless. Hoping that a change in wind pattern and/or rain will help tame the fires and haze, at least temporarily.
“This is "parkour", the internet sensation of 2004. It was in one of the Bond films. It's pretty impressive. The point is to get from point A to point B as creatively as possible, so technically they are doing parkour as long as point A is delusion and point B is the hospital.”
🚀Mars One estimates the cost of bringing the first four people to Mars at US$ 6 billion.
Other sources say that the estimated cost of sending humans to Mars is roughly 500 billion U.S. dollars
⚠Think about it: Yes, we are excited about the exploration of Mars and our solar system. But we worry that we are ignoring existing and life-threatening problems on our own finite and overpopulated planet as we do so.
Mars mission plans have round-trip flight times of 400 to 450 days. Is it really worth it, traveling so far away, leaving our unique and beautiful planet behind us?🌍 Credits: @we_saveplanetearth
