“Headquarters to the Backcountry”
12x16 acrylic on panel
The top of Headquarters Creek Pass in the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
My grandfather had a part in building this trail when he was in the Forest Service as a young man. Since that time, this pass and the wilderness it is gate to have been a place of significance to our family. He told so many stories of his time in the Forest Service and it is pretty amazing to go to some of the places where his experiences took place.
Riley and I hiked to the top of the pass two summers ago and he couldn’t stop gazing up at Rocky Mountain trying to figure out how to get up to the top, as there is no trail. Long story short, we trail blazed our way up to the top (the peak in the painting). It turned out to be a day we will never forget! Rocky Mountain is the tallest mountain in the Bob Marshall at 9392 ft.

“How many times do we get banged up from hard hits in life? We fall and get wounded in many ways but the key is to get back up and keep moving forward. In horsemanship, they teach anyone who falls off a horse to get right back in the saddle. The same is true in life. We fall off our different horses and we need to make sure to get right back in the saddle again and not remain down. Life has its hard knocks, that's for sure, but the key to any healing is to keep moving forward. If we stop......we end up wallowing in our mess and the longer we wait to get back in the saddle of life again, the harder it is to get moving. Bitterness gets in our wounds and infects us with its poison. Bitterness eventually leads to despair and we end up much worse off than had we gotten right back in the saddle, even with our scrapes and bruises before there is any time for infection to get in there.
Today, let's all make sure we get back in the saddle of life and not remain on the ground.” Get up and keep moving 🆎 🖌

Latest piece. Various textures of frits, powders, stringers, Irid reactive glass, dichroic glass with custom cuts. Three layers total and 6mm thickness of glass. Fired to a perfect contour fuse.
