Couldn't ask for a more beautiful stage for the Finals of #YFSSEA , nor a better panel of speakers and judges. Thanks to James (ACE), Bidyut (DBS), Rachel (Love, Bonito), Tjin (@lifebeyondgrades) and Anabel (Webarre) for sharing their take on entrepreneurship and innovation!
Unbeknownst to many, one thing we made sure of for Young Founders Summit is to ensure a balanced gender representation. 50% of judges, 60% of speakers and 40% of mentors were female. And so when we got this feedback from parents: "It's inspiring for our girls to hear from so many female leaders - they see hope and can now aspire to be", we knew. Never underestimate the importance of being intentional.
Hey all! The startup journey is full of ups and downs and a whole lot of learning. If you are a founder, want to be a founder some day or just want to up skill yourself (how I started out) this video series is for you! (LINK IN BIO)
Even if I only inspire one person to go get their dreams - that’s amazing. Seeing people grow into success is awesome.
Math anxiety is a real thing. We often have one traumatic math experience when we’re young and that one event will ruin our confidence for the rest of our lives. Seriously. There’s no such thing as a “math person” everyone can be a math person! We just need to let go of the idea that you need to be smarter to be able to do math! #MathIsForEveryone
"When women contribute to cultures of exclusion in the tech world, we all lose". This was the first sentence of a blog I started writing a few months ago. While I can thankfully say that 99.9% of the women i've met in tech spaces have been kind, helpful and filled me with the sort of camaraderie we need more of in life in general, there was one situation that left a bad taste in my mouth. Essentially, a female student at a previous coding bootcamp had a chronic habit of making the classroom environment hostile for *every other woman in the class. This includes making sly comments about people's weights, programming abilities, obscene 'bro'-type/watercooler jokes...You name it. When confronted by another student about her abusive words towards them, she offered up the half-assed excuse, "I dunno, I guess i'm just insecure." After which point her behavior continued. I don't know how much of an issue this really is in tech, but it's rather sad. Competitive pageantries still exist between some women - where we scale and weigh our bodies side by side, compare our hair, makeup, clothes, or even our smarts. And still-largely male-defined spaces ("Gamer", "Metal", "Nerd", etc), also have their fair share of girls wish to claim it as their own high-heeled throne. Their 'thing'. It's the snowflake myth of uniqueness. "I must be the only one. What is she doing here?" Guys don't have this problem. While I don't have any immediate answers to this problem, at least on the tech side, addressing bullying, i'll simply leave this post with questions I posed to the audience at the end of the unpublished blog. Feel free to chime in if you have any comments and suggestions: If you are a woman in tech, ask yourself, “How can I promote camaraderie between women? What is the current climate between the women who work or learn here?”. If you are a mean girl in tech, ask yourself, "Why must I define my success by my fellow sister's failure? What about another woman succeeding makes me anxious enough to want to shoot her down?". And if you are a man OR woman in tech, and you witness bullying, speak up. The difference between such actions stopping or perpetuating is you.

We love hearing your #MakerFaireWGTN stories! Tag us in your posts to share your favourite moments, learnings and inspirations from the day!
I bought a micro:bit in the weekend! It’s really satisfying making even simple things happen with the little tool. A blinking heart, a reaction game, a dice, and coin toss! Happy starting my maker journey with small steps~ I want to eventually combine art + tech to make cool (and cute) things 💻 💓 Thank you @makerfairewgtn and the people at the @makerbox.nz stall for piquing my curiosity about the possibilities of electronics, even for a newb like me~ I’m so glad I went!
Meet TechGal: @katieibrahim
Here's her story!
She studied computer engineering during college and has always been extremely passionate about biometrics and cyber security. She was one out of 4 girls in all of her classes, which inspired her to want to see other girls in the field and it’s something she’s become very passionate about. After graduation, she started out doing risk and IT assessments for one company and loved it! As she grew in her career, she now has the ability to help many companies develop cybersecurity strategies to ensure their network is safe and defended. She said “It can really effect a company and people involved in companies whether directly or indirectly if data gets in the wrong hands.”
Her mission is to help companies all over the world develop safer cybersecurity practices to prevent data breaches and keep personal identifiable information secure.
Inspiration: Allow your passion to become your purpose and one day become your profession.

This holiday keeping it real, As I am preparing for aws solutions architect - associate level cert. .
Although I’m not taking cloud practitioner exam I wanted to first understand aws basic global infrastructure and architecture principles. I also needed pricing models for another different reason. overall, I spent over 20 hours just to get through cloud practitioner overview.
Really hoping I’d finish preparing for associate level solutions architect under 3 months cause I really don’t enjoy multiple attempts. .
Happy thanksgiving 🍽🦃🍁 everyone!!
A little bit of coding, a little bit of daydreaming with the snow outside. Now I know this position is far from being the best ergonomic one but SOO worth it while it's snowing outside ! It's the perfect weather to work on don't you think? So relaxing and calming! I also listen to snowstorm blizzard sounds on @youtube to really feel the vibe.. Please tell me I'm not the only one who does that 🤭😂

Hold up real quick!
Because I see you scrolling through your feed but you aren't posting.
And it's not because you don't want to, you really do!
But life is hard right now and you're not sure why.
You're stressing more and more.
You're just going through the motions.
You're questioning your abilities.
And you just don't feel good enough right now.
Good enough to take care of yourself.
Good enough fuel your body right.
Good enough to dress like the amazing woman you are.
Or even good enough to really put yourself first.
But you SO ARE!
And what's so scary about actually committing time to YOU and let all the amazing potential blossom out?
What really scares you when someone says to commit 4, 6 or 12 months to growing, challenging, unlocking and owning your life?
Because I believe so strongly that health is the baseline to long lasting success in life.
And if you're struggling with it, it's time we had a chat.
Why wait around for another new year to come and go?
Why not start now and learn to enjoy the holidays, new year and great adventures 2019 has in store for you BEFORE they even come?
