They’re AUTHENTIC.
They’re themselves.
They don’t give two f*cks about appearing cool or weird or different or basic or the same. They like what they like, they’re passionate about things + they don’t have to pose.

Social media is full of posturing people trying to post content for their « fans » (dear god!)
Social media is also full of interesting people with something to say. More often than not they’re the ones who speak their minds even if it loses them followers (like @hannahrosecluley and @theleanlawyer who have called out influential women’s magazines in the past for damaging messages & @rhitrition who got trolled recently for calling out dangerous diets). Or they break out into new areas they love instead of playing it safe with what’s worked so far (eg. @laurentickner)
Or they’re people who post photos they love even if it’s not what their usual « audience » would like.
Or just on your personal accounts posting candid stuff or real talk instead of curating some fake sickly sweet image of a perfect dream life which now just makes me look at people like superficial surfaces, all style/veneer & no substance.

Social media can be AMAZING, I love connecting with likeminded people in fitness and beyond! I post whatever I feel like - on my nerdy days I share that, on my cheesy motivational days I share that & for the Northern Ireland abortion referendum I lost a tonne of followers (good, frankly) for example who didn’t like my vocal support of it.
Stop caring about numbers and validation!
Literally do you, & even if you have a super tiny group who interact with you it’s way more meaningful. 0 likes... so what? 😂

I quite like climbing things, even if it is in pyjama bottoms because I ripped my leggings half way up a climb 😂.
Trying new things is tough, especially if you're as stroppy as I am! I'm not very good if I'm not great at something straight away. I usually throw myself into things wanting immediate gratification. Learning to slow down and just enjoy the process of being a beginner. I guess it's like when someone goes to the gym for the first time. The unknown and the feeling of being unconfident. 
The reality is the same though • No one is looking or judging you because everyone starts somewhere (if they do look or judge then their a prick and they need to learn how to be a decent human) • Learn the basics to build on
• Be proud of every personal success. No matter how little or small you think it is. • The only comparisons you should be doing are when reflecting back on your previous self.
• Enjoy yourself, even if you hate the gym, find something you enjoy!

Would you rather do something you can brag about, or do something well? 🤔 Something @revivestronger said recently stuck with me, about how he will always admire someone with good form, rather than pay attention to how much they are lifting. Warm up set for sumo deadlifts... not saying my form is good, but it’s a damn sight better than it was and that is my focus right now. Let go of vanity metrics (as we call them in the social media trade 🤣), drop your weights and nail your form. The irony is that when you do this you inevitably have that “ah haaaa” moment when you realise you are finally engaging the right muscles and really feeling the exercise (and the benefits). Then you build back up. Slowly slowly catchy monkey 🐒

This morning I focused on achieving a consistent s/m (strokes per minute, similar to cadence) and a split (the time it takes to cover 500m)

In exercise (and perhaps I life) I can be inconsistent with intensity and performance. Maybe that’s why I was good at obstacle racing and HIIT training, constantly stopping and starting.

This morning I achieved the result I wanted, a consistent s/m AND split. I had to concentrate so much! .
I’ve been training on the rowing machine for over 3 years and have never achieved these results.

I’m not sure why it’s so important but I’m seeing a hidden message here..... maybe I can take this consistency into real life??? 🤔🤔🤔

When your squat depth is on point and your hair is on fleek 💁🏻‍♀️. But seriously, read on... My training has not been a priority in the last week or so. Sometimes life happens. Other opportunities come up that may not otherwise present themselves again. Sometimes supporting others is more important than getting under a bar. 
Don’t get me wrong I’ve missed it like crazy but this was not the week to go in, rushed for time, fatigued to shit and probably come away with a bad taste in my mouth. Yes training can be (and has been) your saviour in some stressful periods in your life, but it also may add additional pressure points that in the end don’t serve you well at all. 
You get out what you put in, for sure, but if you haven’t got enough to put in in the first place, what do you stand to gain? 🤷🏻‍♀️ If you didn’t get anything from that ☝🏼 then this is probably just a totally pointless #humpday post 🤣

Everything has changed and yet I am more me than I have ever been 🤸🏻‍♀️

I moved back to Manchester 4 months ago after an incredible 3.5 year living in Reading. I loved living in Reading and can honestly say it was the best 3.5 years of my life and the most settled I’ve ever been as I moved around a lot as a kid.

It’s been hard with all the change but I really am the most me I’ve ever been and that is down to things like aerial hoop and dancing! Although I still need time to settle in properly and it’s not up to Reading standards yet, I know that change isn’t always a bad thing and can be scary.

We had a wonderful stay in Krakow in which we got to know the city quite a bit and we both passed our polish exams yesterday🇵🇱 .
Those who are into fitness and watch their food intake will probably recognize the struggle of leaving that part of their daily lives at home. Maintaining my workout schedule and making the right food choices despite eating out almost every day really contributed to this being one of the most enjoyable holiday experiences I've had so far. Really happy I found my way around that💯 .

Why I chose to become a Pilates teacher..... my hyper mobility has caused me many issues over the years but also has its bonuses....bendy body =pretty pics!

However a bendy body meant muscles were over compensating for others that had become lazy, resulting in various injuries and pains!

If pilates is practised with consistency, it can improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension. What is there not to like?! Pilates can complement training by developing whole-body strength and flexibility, and help reduce the risk of injury. .

The basic generic guidelines of 3 sets of 10 reps with 60 seconds rest came about due to potentially being the most likely to get results of muscle hypertrophy with the average person.

Muscle can grow from numerous rep parameters and the magic notion of 10-12 reps doesn't have to be and probably shouldn't be the only focus once a more advanced trainee. If you are increasing the workload of that muscle in some form it can grow from pretty much any rep scheme.

The "tone zone" magical 13th rep onwards that women need to be lifting to ensure they don't wake up looking like Mr Olympia if they miscount reps by 1 or 2 is frankly nonsense.

Further studies have shown the same hypertrophy response when volume is matched for heavy low rep (under 5 reps) compared to moderate and higher rep ranges. The difference being that low rep workouts take more time to reach the same volume. So for more time efficient workouts moderate to higher reps would be more suited.

How to make lasting changes...🤔

We're all pretty good at beginning to make changes to our diets, fitness or lifestyle when we’re excited about achieving our goals. However, it can be really hard to keep up with the changes we make. Here are 3 ways to help make these changes stick:

1. Create systems: Systems are essentially a process that helps to achieve a particular goal. For example, if your goal is getting stronger, the system is your training routine. It's the day-to-day actions that you need to do to reach your goal. 🤓

2. Use the right tools: Tools can help us to stay accountable and can make the process more fun. For example, using a journal or downloading an app where you can make a note of the weights, sets and reps you’ve done in the gym. 🧐

3. Set boundaries: It's useful to have boundaries (rather than strict rules) to help us be flexible without getting too far away from our goals. For example, making the commitment to go to the gym regularly except when you go away on holiday. 😎

During the week I don’t have time for any fancy breakfasts, it’s usually a protein smoothie or overnight oats at my desk with a v large coffee ☕️ but breakfast is definitely my favourite so when it comes to the weekend I like to treat myself to something like this 🤤 .

This was 40g oats, half a courgette, 175ml almond milk, 50g egg whites and a scoop of chocolate protein. Topped with frozen berries, fresh strawbs, @fuel10k original PB, some cacao nibs and a @squareorganics chocolate coated crunch bar 🤤 .

Today’s #humpday and #transformation all in one 💪🏻 Swipe right for flashback to two years ago... 😱😱😱 ✔️There is no substitute to hard work ✔️ It literally took me years to change my body composition and not be afraid to eat whole foods ✔️ Weightlifting does NOT make girls look manly and make them grow beard (unless you take weird s**t.. that’s on you then 😂🧔🏼) ✔️ I chose how to shape my body and what I prefer to train. Yes, I like how my arms look but the main focus over the last year is legs ✔️ Lifting weights does not have to be boring and you don’t have to go really heavy. For me, it always includes working with both heavy and light weights.  Going for 1 rep max and high reps ✔️ You MUST eat right... for YOUR goals. It includes all types of macro and micro nutrients. You can thank me later 😉 ✔️ There is no one size fits all, but the basics are the same - swap that chocolate for healthy alternative and get off that couch. ✔️ Now all you need is patience and to keep your GOALS in mind. I LOVE making the most of my body on holiday , going on walks, doing workouts here & there, eating good food, keeping topped up on water and trying to remain as PRESENT as possible. All of these really help with not only my physical but mental health so much! 👌🏼 I also can’t say enough how much just having a week away has done wonders for my anxiety levels ☺️ just slowing down & showing gratitude for EVERYTHING really brings me CALM! Hey you guys! SO! I am ALL about challenging myself lately and really pushing to grow a more healthy relationship with food, my body, and how I live in general. One thing I have struggled with the most lately is eating “dessert”. My I probably have THE biggest sweet tooth like... ever. I’m sure that’s why I get so obsessive over it! I restrict and restrict and restrict and then wonder why I want something so bad! It’s my own fault, and so in me recognizing this, I must challenge and change it! So, that’s what I’m going to do! 👊🏻 While a “regular” brownie is what ultimately sounded good, I didn’t have all the ingredients and I DO NOT want to eat the most guilt-inducing option for myself. So, I will do my best and try things to help me with what I want! I knew I had sweet-potato brownies in my freezer, so I took one out and paired it with what you’ll see here as my “dessert”! I am having: a heated up sweet potato brownie topped with @traderjoes creamy PB + honey + cinnamon and a vanilla @siggisdairy yogurt for the side! 😛💦🔥 This looks super delicious and I know it will be! While I am in the process of having a healthy relationship with food, I want to find more nutritious options when I can! Don’t get me wrong, I have some fun stuff planned this week and will ALWAYS take part in my  Yogurtland nights, but I wanted to try something different today! I do not support trying to substitute stuff for the real thing versus a “healthy option” because that only breeds more food anxiety. That is NOT my goal. ❌ This, however, WILL help me. So, I’m going to push myself and freaking do this! Here we go! 👊🏻 Is off to enjoy this, get ready for bed, drink some nighttime tea, and get some Z’s. Here’s to an amazing night. This weekend I went on my first ever retreat. It wasn't about having a 'cleanse' or 'detox' and just having juices. Instead it was about 20 ladies doing sweaty workouts together and enjoying tasty foods, enjoying the great outdoors and having a girlie movie night together. 💕

Being "healthy" is more than just the food that you eat and how much you workout. It's about enjoying the things you do and surrounding yourself with people who have a positive impact on your life. Working on ways to achieve your goals, and doing what you want to do. Making sure you get enough sleep and spending your time doing things you enjoy! 🙌
