I’ve been very quiet this past week here on Insta ... it’s been a week taken up with my boys, my little one finishing Primary School and moving onto his next adventure at Senior School and my big boy making big decisions about his future so my other baby , Gilly Page Jewellery had taken a backseat this week. Now that the emotional last day is over ( I was more emotional than him !) and decision made by my big one I can get on back to my business baby ...
The school holidays are on us so it’s juggling time to get that balance right between family and work ... the constant challenge to get it just right and I am not sure if you ever can or ever do ! Will be giving it a good try anyway ... so I will be grabbing time in the workshop when I can , early in the morning when my boys are asleep with just the birds for company through the workshop door or late at night when Mommy duties are done for the day and @bbc6music for company, both are lovely times to work, allowing me to get completely emersed in what I am doing and loving every second of it xxx I’ve got some unexpected time to myself this afternoon so have just completed these earrings for a lovely bride xxx
Hope you are having a lovely day x #gillypagejewellery#gillypagejewellerybespokeflowercrowns#eachpiecetellsastory#silversmith#earrings#love#bespokesilverkeepsake#madeinbritain 🇬🇧 #workshoplife#lovewhatyoudo#luckygirl#worklifebalance
#marchmeetthemaker catch up Day 18 ... Inspiration
My inspiration comes from meeting and talking with a client about their commission, the occasion, a gift for a friend, family member or a gift for themselves , what they want the piece to convey in either a hand etched message or individual charms....once I have this information I sketch some ideas with the client so that we come up with something perfect together .... this flower fairy necklace is one of my favourite pieces as it depicts perfectly the fun, mischevious and whimsical nature of the recipient ... her love of Fairies, acorns, toadstools and woodland flowers.
I do the same when creating my heirloom flower crowns and accessories , taking the brief from each clients favourite flowers and colour palette
#marchmeetthemaker catch up Day 14 ... Hopes and Dreams .... although I have posted this picture before I have posted it again because it sums up the three things that sum up me and my little business ... Dream ... I dreamt for so long of having my own little workshop where I could make and create and after such a long period of time of life taking different twists and turns I was finally able to turn that dream into a reality and thank my lucky stars every day that I am able to keep following that dream ....
Believe .... As a small, creative business owner who is busy making a luxury and not a necessity for people I have often have days when I question my success and the future of my business , however I have come this far and to me there is now no going back , I am totally and utterly in love hook line and sinker with being able to do every day what I love to do and although it sounds oh sooo cheesy every time someone commissions one of my pieces I never fail to feel thrilled that they have chosen me to create their something special and that is what keeps me believing in what I do ....
Succeed .... To me success can be measured in many different ways and in many different levels ... my first success was finally having the courage to take that leap of faith and finally set up Gilly Page Jewellery , the second , earning enough money to pay for my little workshop, my little haven of creative heaven away from home and family life where I can totally emerse myself in designing and creating.Pulling together my first photo shoot without any experience and getting it published not only succeeded in gaining my business publicity but also succeeded in providing me with the confidence to say I can do this rather than no I can’t !
Every day when I walk into my workshop is another day that I have succeeded in following my dream and am so excited for what the future may hold ... #marchmeetthemaker#dreambelievesuceed#doingitmyway#smallbusinessowner#followyourdreams#leapoffaith#justdoit#gillypagejewellery#gillypagejewellerybespokeflowercrowns#eachpiecetellsastory#etsyshop
#meetthemaker catch up -Day 13 Workwear ... When I’m in the workshop I always wear my ‘comfy suit’ , soft, loose and comfortable to wear sitting at my workbench or desk .... when I’m off to see clients or at a trade show or wedding event I always smarten up and usually wear a dress or skirt and am always colourful and quite eclectic but either way , workshop or out and about I always wear my own pieces .... not in a show off ‘look what I made ‘ kind of way but the way I see it if I am not going to wear my pieces why should I expect anyone else too ... I make pieces I would like to wear and am always thrilled when people choose a piece of Gilly Page Jewellery ... #marchmeetthemaker#workwear#mystyle#dowhatyoulove#doingitmyway#gillypagejewellery#gillypagejewellerybespokeflowercrowns#eachpiecetellsastory
#marchmeetthemaker catch up Day 10 Branding .... When trying to decide on branding and a logo a PR friend of mine advised me to go with my name and what I did to give a really clear story to prospective clients. I am essentially my brand ... as I design, make , wear and market my pieces her advise made sense , so Gilly Page Jewellery became my brand name. I wanted to keep the personal element visible and worked with Sarah from @sarahjonescreative to come up with the final design of colour, we chose grey to compliment and echo the cool, silver grey of my pieces , font , with my name based on my signature, wording and image. My branding has been carried across all areas of my business for clarity and continuity and love what we came up with #meetthemaker#brandingdesign#dowhatyoulove#doingitmyway#gillypagejewellery#gillypagejewellerybespokeflowercrowns#eachpiecetellsastory
#marchmeetthemaker Day 3 catch-up ... Where it all began ... This very old , bursting at the seams project sketch book , my first one of my Foundation Art course which I still keep tucked away in my workshop all these years later !
All the textures, colours, photos , notes and sketches , all initially intended to be used to develop a ceramic collection ( clay was my first love, influenced by a really cool Art teacher from Secondary School ) but I realised that all of the sketches and designs were for pieces of jewellery, so, instead of Ceramics I went off to the then , Epsom School of Art to Study Jewellery and Smithing.First time round trying to forge a career in jewellery making whilst full of imagination and passion I was absolutely rubbish at the business side of things ! My life then took a different path as I got a job to earn some money and ended up in the world of sales for a large Bluechip company which was never really ‘me’ and I always had this burning desire to return to making and creating , so , 4 years ago I had my ‘now or never moment’ and took that leap of faith and Gilly Page Jewellery was born and I am loving every minute ... #followyourdreams#lovewhatyoudo#nevergiveup#followyourheart#smallbusiness#arisan#bespoke#gillypagejewellery#gillypagejewellerybespokeflowercrowns#eachpiecetellsastory
Day 2 #marchmeetthemaker WHERE I have my cosy workshop in a converted part of the garage in the garden of my home in Kinver, a village in the South Staffordshire countryside , it is the place I grew up in and came back to when my husband and I had our boys ... it’s a lovely place to be,surrounded by greenery and lots of countryside. My workshop is my little haven to make and create away from all the ‘boy stuff’ in our house! It took me a while to get to where I am now after being sidetracked from my Art School training to the corporate world but I am sooooo glad I took that leap of faith and am now doing what I love ! #marchmeetthemaker#dowhatyoulove#workshop#happy#artisan#gillypagejewellery
Hello , I’m Gilly a #marchmeetthemaker @joannehawker newbie ! I am lucky enough to be the owner and designer maker of my bespoke keepsake jewellery and heirloom flower crown and bridal accessories business Gilly Page Jewellery.
I had my ‘now or never moment ‘ four years ago and finally took that leap of faith and set out on my journey of turning my dream of running my business full time into a reality! I have a workshop in the garden of my home in a village in the South Staffordshire countryside which I share with my lovely husband and two beautiful boys and a very sassy rabbit who rules our garden!
I love what I do and am excited for what this year holds regarding establishing my brand further and am looking forward to getting to know lots of other fabulous artisan makers and Instagram addicts ! ( my guilty pleasure )
I am a hopeless romantic and very sentimental, love all things floral and have a bit of a thing with vintage and the romance of times gone by which is reflected in my work. I have been lucky enough to meet some amazing fellow artisans and makers during the past four years which have resulted in some fantastic experiences, opportunities and collaborations as a result of the magic of social media and look forward to a being a part of this challenge #marchmeetthemaker#girlboss#letsdothis#artisan#designermaker#newppportunties#herestothefuture#followyourdreams#gillypagejewellery#gillypagejewellerybespokeflowercrowns#eachpiecetellsastory
