At our leadership convention learning and growing. Being a leader is something you learn and earn as you grow. Is being there for those who need your support and guidance without judgement. Is understanding that everyone’s need is different and everyone’s journey is at a different level. Being a leader is understanding that patience is not just a virtue but a necessity. #leadership#jyhealthjourney#ourjourney#learnandgrow#healthyliving#ourlife#gettingstrong
This work-out was so hard to get done this morning. I was cold, sore and tired. Hard to get started and didn't have the momentum to keep going, until one of the trainers came up to me and told me he was proud of me because he sees me kill it every time I'm in the gym. That's all it took for me to finish. He may have been reaching lol but hey it was nice to hear even if he was trying to sell himself haha
Lunch today 🍳🍅🥗 after my housemate made poached eggs for breakfast I was craving some omelette, so here is a 2egg mushroom omelette with some green pepper and wilted spinach and kale, and two falafels 🌞
Not gonna lie, weekends are the hardest for me to stick to the plan. I have been good all week and have seen the scale moving down again. So I am telling myself NOT TO CHEAT this weekend. Stick. To. The. Plan. I am in charge of my choices, no one else. So here I am having my morning coffee before heading out for a photo shoot (I am a photographer 📷@brookeashleyphoto) and I plan on tracking and making good choices today and all weekend! LET'S GO!!!! 💪🏻 #brookegetsfitish
Day 15 of #jsafijichallenge and #my12weeksofkindnesschallenge unfortunately no random act of kindness done today so I will make up for it tomorrow. As you can see I just got over the line for my 10,000 steps and the 3 things I’m grateful for are: 1️⃣ pajamas 2️⃣ my nice, warm bed 3️⃣ ducted heating ❤️
Achievement done make sure you get out and go for a walk go for a run anything to get outside and start exercising this is really good for your body muscles and your self-esteem I have done 60 Minutes of walking in one day this is fantastic for me and my self esteem and this will help anyone that has got depression or anything along the lines of any mental illness so make sure you get out there and don't forget to Slip Slop Slap
Don't forget to follow my journey and of course keep fit
40g of oats made with water topped with chocolate and home grown pear 🍐🍫off the Aldi and the gym now (abit later than scheduled because I was gifted with a very very drunk andy at 3am) and then going on an otley run with the gals 🍻
This is by far one of my favourite soups in the world (except mums home made chicken soup) 🥣 despite the humidity this mumma is craving Beef and Vegetable soup 😍 one of the amazing recipes from the @maxineschallenge !! I may not have my abs showing at the moment and lets be honest in 12 weeks I could do it but this time I’m taking it slow and steady 🙌🏻!! I’ve done it before I know how hard it was and this journey of self love and health isn’t done in 12 weeks!! I don’t have a gym membership at the moment and right now it’s not a priority! The girls and I are off to Melbourne next week 😍 yay I get to meet my new niece!! When we get back the girls are starting child care 🙈🙈😍😍 super mixed emotions but I know they will love it! Once they have their groove it’s time to look for a gym! I do miss deadlifting and squats working out at home just isn’t the same for me!!! Anyways happy Saturday 💜 #mumlife#excited#brisbane#melbourne#maxineschallenge#maxineschallenge18#soup#cravings#gains#slowandsteady#mealprep#foodporn#inspo#gettingstrong#journey
Y’all... my day did NOT go as planned. I missed my normal morning workout and it threw my day OFFFFFF 😅 but I said no excuses and I can’t break an appointment with myself, even if I have to reschedule it... so I’m taking this unicorn crack and pushing through. What a WILD Friday night right?! 😉 😂 🤷🏾♀️
Friday means lunch out at work. My standard is the Garden Salad at Culver’s with chicken. An afternoon in the car meant gas station snacks and those granola bites were so good! I wasn’t sure where dinner would be. We ended up at a Granite City Brewery. I asked for the side salad with no blue cheese and some grilled shrimp, then split some mini desserts with my hubby. This is why I love counting macros. I had targets to keep in mind, but went slightly over on fat and protein but was under on carbs. I was close on my total calories and I ended the day feeling satisfied and didn’t feel deprived at all. The old me would have splurged every meal because it was “Friday” and I was going out of town...I can tell you that I feel 100% better eating this way and that’s what I truly deserve. TGIF!!!
The last 2 weeks I’ve been ending leg day with 3 sets of 30 reps. The first time it was done with 10lbs on each side. Moving on up ☝🏻
✨Week 2 25 lbs on each side.
Leaves my legs feeling like jello ☠️
- ✨ s/o to @gameofswoles for this cute I ♥️ squats tank.
Got in a killer chest and back workout with my homie today! Finally moved up to 35lbs on my pullup, I'm very pleased with the progress (besides not being able to get my chin over on that last rep lol). 6 months ago i could do 2 pullups with my bodyweight, NOTHING is impossible! 💪
Video creds to my boi Andy 🔥
I have a confession to make: I love cardio 😋
Many people actually don’t know this about me because I never do cardio. But It’s not because I don’t like it. It’s because it doesn’t help me stay lean and strong.
Counterintuitive, I know.
Cardio can make you feel really good, and this is what I and many of my clients initially used to explain our attachment to it.
We would just say it makes us feel good. Until we faced the truth of what we were feeling good about…
👉 Feeling like we were going to lose fat, or at least not get fat.
But if you are relieving an aesthetics (weight) related anxiety, it could be feeding a destructive disorder.
Because all it really does is burn calories.
It doesn’t help you get rid of body fat through some special mechanism, it just burns calories.
Just like picking things up, chewing, digesting, walking, breathing, and farting…😐
👉 So if you only do cardio (by itself), your body adapts in the same way as a low calorie intake (same relationship energy balance wise), by wasting muscle and lowering your metabolic demand (fastest way to skinny fat 😬).
It shows initial results but then you have to keep doing more to sustain those results, while your body breaks down.
👎You become attached to a method that isn’t sustainable or effective.
☝️ Most likely, you want to be lean, not lose weight. You want to look “toned” or “ripped,” not see the scale go down (although that’s satisfying when you are working hard). Right?
So if cardio is taking up all of your time and energy, then you likely aren’t building muscle and helping your metabolism (read two posts ago), which is actually the key to having lower body fat percentages (aka looking lean).
If you’re eating right, it’s likely you won’t have to do cardio.
If you’re training with weights, it’s likely you can eat more while still losing fat.
This leaves cardio as a tool in your tool box for burning more calories, or just to enjoy in a healthy way 🙂
So if you are attached to cardio because you are anxious about gaining or losing weight, I encourage you to focus on solving that problem (physically and mentally) instead of LITERALLY trying to run from it 💙
