Been gone for the past 24 hours with no cell service, canoeing and exploring the lakes of AP. We found one of the most beautiful campsites on an island in the middle of the lake with some of the best swimming and cliff jumping the area has to offer. There’s a current fire-ban for a large part of Ontario, as we’ve been dealing with an insane heat wave. Although no campfire was allowed, that doesn’t really phase me. It’s incredibly important to follow and respect the rules and regulations of the area you’re camping in, for nature’s sake. I’d do anything to protect her. It was nice to hit the hay early, and let the sounds of the loons push us further into slumber.
"I can show you the world. Shining, shimmering, splendid." - Aladdin, but also @alyshac probably .
Five years ago if you told me I would be going on trips specifically to hike an average of 6+ miles per day, I would have laughed at you. Up until 2015, I had only traveled to Europe.
Then @alyshac took me to Chile where we did the "W" trek in Torres del Paine (which is my favorite trip we've done to date) where we hiked 40+ miles over 5 days. I fell in love with hiking and the outdoors and haven't looked back. .
Shout out to Alysha for pushing (dragging?) me out of my comfort zone and making me open to experiencing places outside of Europe.
I’ve had some great days this summer with awesome friends, but I think today has been my favorite so far. So many wonderful people. Pretty sure we laughed 95% of our sentences today 😋 Also @kymosher is FINALLY HOME!!! P.S. roller coasters & water rides are the best!
My sisters and I
Have one wish before we die
And it may sound strange
As if our minds are deranged
Please don't ask us why
Beneath the sheltering sky
We have this strange obsession
You have the means in your possession
Tea in the Sahara with you
Still can't believe a moose charged me on my 🎉Birthday🎉! I did not aggravate her either! What happened is I came around a corner and the moose with her offspring were on the other side of a group of trees. Once I came around the corner she spun around towards me dropped her head and came at me. At this point I wasn't even thinking, my reaction was yelling "hey" as loud as I have ever yelled before and backing up behind the trees. Fortunately she stopped her charged and I was able to back away and let her leave the trail so I could continue hiking
It beats me how neither the moose or I noticed each other until we were almost face to face!
Oh man. These kids: always always always a blessing, never ever a burden. Thanks to the kids, we were up early eating pancakes. Then we headed up into Rocky Mountain National Park where we got to witness the coolest mountain rainstorm, tons of elk, a coyote, and this beautiful tundra landscape at over 12,000 ft elevation. What a privilege it is to love them and be loved by them.❤🦌🦊🌲🌱🍃🌼🌻
Note to self: Do not make afternoon commitments when planning to climb a 4-pitch sea cliff (5-pitch if you count a slippy traverse to get to the bottom of the route) with lots of big loose rocks with 3 people. Easter Rising VS 4a/4b - 8 hours - 6 toilet stops.
"...The shape of a rather indistinct personage, who seemed to be making great efforts to catch up with him, but made little, if any, progress. I mean that there was an appearance of running about his movements, but the distance between him and Parkins did not seem to materially lessen."
- M.R. James, "OH WHISTLE AND I'LL COME TO YOU, MY LAD" (1904).
