you don’t even know, that each morning when i wake up, i wake up to your happy feet thumping around upstairs on the hardwood floor. your grandma åsa likes to apologize for it but i really wish she knew, those “bah-dump bah-dump bah-dump” noises touch me. something to listen for.
because these past few months, they’ve been hard on me. they have come with a whole lot of new. to hear those happy feet in the morning make me smile. it’s something constant. something to count on. something to see me through.
when i pulled up in the driveway that day, there you were, waggy tail and all. the month of june surfaced scars in me yet you didn’t falter when all i felt able to do was crawl. so crawl i did and love you gave until those hard days return to a few. when i pushed everyone out, you pushed in, you gave me something to lean in-to.
so lean-in i did and playful you came, barreling in with heart. you taught me what it looks like to take it day by day. heavens love. you were there for me from the start.
