Rest Day 💤

Are you taking rest days? 
Well you need to. 
If you are going all out every single day, without taking a day off to rest, you run the risk of injury.

Your body needs more than just barbells and dumbbells to build muscle. 
If you're not taking 1-2 rest days a week, you are causing more harm than good. "It's not how hard you train, it's how well you recover." If you don't recover well how do you expect to kill it in the gym? How are you ever going to lift as heavy as you want to?

When you lift you put a tremendous amount of stress on your musculoskeletal, nervous, and immune systems. If you're not resting those systems you are playing with fire. You will eventually end up injured, sick, weak, and probably pretty grumpy. 
Recovery is where the magic happens. That's where the muscles you have been tearing up by lifting heavy all week, finally have time to rebuild and grow.

Here are two things you can do on your off days:

1️⃣ Work on corrective exercises.

We like to lift heavy, but never think twice about muscle imbalance, mobility, or even our joint health.

Think about your week of lifting, what didn't feel right? 
Was your squat feeling weak or maybe your range of motion was impaired? 
Work on strengthening your glutes and hips. Spend more time working on proper form. 
2️⃣ Work on strengthening your core.

Do a few core circuits because with out a strong core good luck squatting deep, deadlifting heavy, bench pressing with power, or military pressing with a tight neutral spine. 
You're core is your power house. Work on staying as tight as possible. 
Find balance and rest your body because it's the only one you get!

Sometimes we can feel like our progress has hit a brick wall! It’s not a nice position to be in, especially when you know you can do better.

For me, the most important thing I want you to understand is that in this situation you've got options. 
Lots of options.

Here’s just a few of many for you to think about.

Option #1 - Take a step back, to take a step forward. Perhaps take a week or two away from the gym or your eating plan and see how you feel coming back to it. Don’t be surprised if the short break has you feeling fresh and raring to go again.

Option #2 - Reset your goals. Go back to the drawing board and set some new, motivational goals. Make sure they’re achievable and time-bound.

Option #3 - Emphasise the benefits of actually achieving your goals. If the benefits are a strong enough “pull”, keep moving forward.

Option #4 - Consume slightly more calories for a short period to up-regulate the thyroid and metabolic rate. This can help get things moving again. You don’t need to go crazy, but an extra 200-300 per day can go a long way. You could then bring them back down again over time. This strategy is often known as reverse dieting.

Option #5 - Look back to see how far you’ve come. This can be a real motivator for you to snap out of whatever rut you’re in.

Option #6 - All of the above? Like I say you’ve got options. So experiment and see what gets you progressing again.

When starting out on your health and fitness journey and you haven’t had much experience with macros then reading food labels is essential to help you achieve your body composition goal. All food in a packet will have a ‘nutritional information ‘ label on it. Here are a few guidelines to follow👇👇 1- Check the serve size of the product and always weigh out using kitchen scales to prevent over eating🥫
2- Don’t fall for clever marketing on the packets. Look at the label and you will often see foods marketed as ‘fat free’ or ‘ high protein’ will have a high sugar content🌮
3- If food contains artificial sweeteners then they will be written separately on the label. These should be added to the carbohydrate total🍫
4- Look at the ingredients in the product. If there are a lot of numbers or ingredients you’ve  never heard of then I’d try and avoid🍞
5- The Australian government guidelines recommend the following - avoid food with more than 10g of fat per 100g
- avoid foods with more than 10g of sugar per 100g serve
-  choose foods with less then 125mg of sodium per 100g
- aim for 3g of fibre per serve🥩
6- Remember we all need a different amount of macros to sustain our various body types and lifestyles. 
Without making the extra effort, especially at the start in weighing and measuring out your food you will only be guessing ! There are many tools and apps out there you can use that doesn’t make it time consuming. The reward will outweigh the time and effort in the beginning. 🥑🥦🥥🥝

Sunday = protein pancakes 🥞 🤤  Sunday for me means switching back to normal days after working a stretch of graveyard shifts so I usually don’t eat as much since I napped in the morning after work. I eat these in the afternoon then don’t eat again until the next day ie: a little intermittent fasting. I only ate half of this ( this is actually 2 servings here). They’re about 40g protein per serving so they’re pretty filling. Two eggs, a banana, 1 serving of chocolate protein powder, and 1tbsp ground flax = 1 serving. I put my ingredients in the blender. Topped with sugar free maple syrup, sugar free chocolate sauce, & pb.

It’s very simple, if you want to lose fat, workout hard and eat less calories so that the body will start consuming the stored fat. Eat more protein, it will build muscle. Fitness is not expensive. I’m a poor man, I can’t hire an trainer and I have probably proved that if we are self conscious on eating and research while working out, a trainer is not necessary. You need to study what scientists and specialists say. I guarantee that no trainer knows everything, they are cleaver people who are doing research on you. I did my research on myself.
