Vacances au soleil pour mon #sweetheartknit de #gertiesultimatedressbook . J’ai fait la version la plus simple, sans manches. Il est super confortable et s’associe avec mon short en jean pour des vacances au top!
A little work in progress. Making a dress from African blockprint in some super vibrant colours! Using patterns from #gertiesultimatedressbook
Already shared some more of this dress in my stories, it's going to be pretty!
I am taking it slow, my shoulder hurts pretty bad forcing me to do little and resting. Have a good weekend all ♡
We wrapped the #charmpatterns shoot last night and now I’m headed to Provincetown for a little vacation! I named Charm Patterns in homage to Charm Magazine, a gorgeous 1940s-1950s publication “for women who work.” (Though Charm Patterns is more for women who werk, if you know what I mean.) There was an annual “two weeks with pay” issue on vacations. Mine won’t be two weeks and it won’t be with pay, but I’m channeling the Charm spirit anyhow! (#selfemployedlife ) I will be super refreshed and ready to ship all your #nightanddaydress orders when I return. #charmpatternsbygertie#indiesewingpattern
I don’t know about you ladies, but I love everything that #reformation makes. Unfortunately, my wallet does not feel the same way. 💸
I usually don’t try to recreate RTW, but when I saw this red linen dress on their site last week, I immediately knew I wanted to make my own version. ❤️ Fabric was purchased that night and I started working on a mock up tonight. I’m using my trusty #gertiesultimatedressbook for patterns - the a-line skirt and the front pieces of the strapless bodice that I am going to modify. Not sure how soon this will get done, since I need to focus on my costume for the upcoming masquerade ball, but I’m excited about this one!
It’s been done a couple weeks, but I just got the hubs to take a quick glamour shot finally! This is from Gertie’s Ultimate Dress Book, and uses the princess seam bodice lined in lawn and side-pleated skirt. I also ended up adding rick rack trim to the neckline and hem since it was such a fun print! #gertiesultimatedressbook#cactusfabric#sewingproject#neverenoughdresses
Lets have a picnic on the hottest day of the year! Luckily there are trees for shade a nice breeze by the water, had a lovely time catching up with @ashleydesignmua .
Wearing a new #memade skirt and vintage blouse. Did a messy poodle updo that I'm really liking for this heat.
I look sort of weird in this picture but this is the finished (mostly) bodice of the dress I'm making for fall!! I finished the dress already but I have to re-finish it because the tension on our sewing machine got messed up :/ Also, should I add pockets? *
Sometimes you have to admit something didn't work, grab that unpicker, and try again. This lemon print dress looked good in pictures, but after wearing it twice I had to face the fact it just didn't fit. The SBA had raised the waist seam 2.5 cm above my natural waist, plus the underbust seam was sitting too high.
So as my first project on my new seeing machine I made a new bodice from the remaining fabric, took the skirt down one size, and put it all back together. It feels so much better! I could have done a new 3/4 sleeve, but this was the third black 3\4 sleeve dress of made this year so I went for a summer version instead. The underbust seam amgle is still a bit weird angle but at least it's not halfway up my bra belt.
I actually have another dress length of this fabric and I'm tossing up whether to resell it or make a matching jacket. The question really is whether I can be bothered making another jacket!
Next project! Bought this pink fabric almost a year ago whilst on holiday in France. Making a button front skirt out of it with a piping detail based on the 3/4 circleskirt from #gertiesultimatedressbook
Have a good weekend everybody 💕
Hey!! @aliyahsumarr and I have been working on a few things and don't forget to drop by later to help her decide on how to make the bodice for her newest dress ;) hopefully we'll post some pics of what we're working on soon :))
My most ambitious make yet. Fabric hand dyed for me on my trip to The Gambia. Still a bit crispy from the wax process which gave gorgeous vintage fullness to the skirt. So pleased with the result - I felt amazing wearing it! #gertiesultimatedressbook @gertie18
I finished my Plaid (or Floral 🌸) Rockabilly Dress and it fits!!!! 😀 Gertie’s Ultimate Dress Book by @gertie18 is such an awesome resource for this pattern and tons of helpful instructions on dress construction. I am so happy with it!!! Now...what to make next!!! 🤗🤔
Orsola Dress Progress: I finally got a successful bodice to fit! Used the Basic Bodice from Gertie’s Ultimate Dress Book. Used a size 8 neckline/shoulders, then size 10 bust/waist, and moved the bottom dart over about 1/2” and the side dart down about 1”. Then adjusted it to fit the neck and shoulder style of the Orsola Bodice and took off 1/2” at the waist for the waistband. Success!
Orsola dress progress: decided to scrap the Orsola bodice and try out the Basic Bodice from #gertiesultimatedressbook Much better! I did a 3” FBA, moved the darts around, etc. Still needs a few tweaks, but pretty good! I should really make myself a sloper.
I finally got round to cutting out my fabric for my first Gertie dress last night and this morning I pinned and tacked (basted) the pieces together, so that I could try them on Audrey before I go to sew them. I have only enough fabric to make a dress that is just above the knee. I have some plain blue cotton for the lining, which I would like to be able to cut out this week. It would be nice to have a finished dress for going home to Scotland.
