I’m gonna gush here a bit. One of the finest meals out I’ve had in a very long time. - Home made black pudding, Askham saddleback pork rissoles and bacon jam, served with a deliciously tangy puréed apple sauce and slivers of fresh apple. - Rough Fell Lamb Cutlet wrapped in Haggis, served with new season carrots, jersey royal potatoes, turnip purée, grilled spring onion and a lamb jus. The lamb cutlet was perfectly cooked and tender. - Dessert! Cookies and Cream, with a passion fruit sorbet. The cookies were mild and crunchy with a hint of salt to the chocolate, oat biscuit crumb sprinkled over with a small small slab of crunchy oatcake under the sorbet. The sorbet was excellent, sharp, tangy and hugely refreshing on a warm night especially. A riot of flavours that really worked well together beyond what I expected, and the wafer of sugar balanced on top was a classy and tasty touch.
If you’re in the area at any point I can’t recommend this place enough for an evening meal, blows other local eateries I’ve tried out of the water!
