We’re feeling tropical today and had to share this SoCal couple, Jack and Kathy Rice, who fell in love with the Hawaiian islands so much that they decided to bring the tropical greenery to their mainland yard.
The 🌱: Bromeliads, cycads, plumerias, and red ti plants form a verdant tapestry beneath tall palms, yet plantings use less water than the replaced lawn, thanks to a drip system with a moisture sensor and carefully calibrated watering schedules.
The custom gate is stained to match the couple’s backyard pool pavilion. The wooden caps topping the pillars on either side are removable if repainting the stucco is needed. "This entry sets the tone for the whole garden," says Jack.

Last Sunday I visited this magical garden/nursery. #OldGoatFarm . I was in awe at every turn. There was so much to see and take in. Loved all the textures, the greens, the colors, the arranged displays, the careful placement of sculpture amongst the plants, the farm animals (goats, chickens, ducks, a peacock and a bunch of other birds) the wooden garden as well as the flower beds. So much care and attention has been made throughout the property, a true life passion. I follow their Facebook page and they are always sharing different plant varieties. They are only open on select days, and for any garden lover, I would highly recommend a visit.
