The next info session for the Earl Street Community Garden is on Sunday 24 June at Kew Library. It's the perfect opportunity to learn about how you can be involved! We'll be putting together working groups to help with things like artwork and designing the gates, planning the food forest and promoting events. Check out these photos for some inspo! Free, but registrations required for catering purposes. Link in bio.
The beets I planted last week have sprouted. The are living in a pot at the back of my house right now. They will go out front when I have space. My other option is to install a rope swing and try to swing through the front door. #thefrontgarden#garden#gardening#beetroot#growyourownfood
Behold my beautiful tomato babies! Worried the chipmunks would get them if I left them another night. Actually had a chipmunk run past my foot in the garden this morning! #tomatoes 🍅 #summerfood#gardening
I learned the hard way...Texture works just as hard as color in the summer garden. When color fades the skeletal remains are often quite alluring. Don’t cut back or clean up too quickly. Let nature do its thang. #notetoself
"Our first pepper of the season"
Eating healthy isn't the easiest, nor is it cheap (which is why we must continue to make healthy food accessible and affordable for all - but that's another conversation for another day 😉), but if you are willing to put in the work you can turn almost any space into your own personal garden. The initial investment (💰 for dirt, soil, peatmoss, and sweat equity 💪) can seem like a lot but if you do your research, you can do it relatively cheap (minus the sweat equity - that'll be expensive 😂). The reward(s) = priceless. Being able to go out to your own garden, pick your own fruits & vegetables, prepare them and grill them 😎, knowing you "created" them from start to finish is a feeling you can't beat...and you'll save a bunch of money on your grocery bill 👍! Check back tomorrow to see the transformation of our raised/boxed gardens 😀!
