For my event this week I went to @galerieperrotin to admire the amazing work from @jr #horizontal @jr born in 1983 in Paris, France. Lives and works between Paris, France and New York, USA According to static.perrotin.com Most people have seen the work of the celebrated French artist JR, even if they don’t know it. His rooftop mural of a giant pair of engaging eyes is impossible to miss from the terraces of New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art, nearly 20 million viewers tuned in to watch U2 perform in front of this dynamic photo during the 2018 Grammy Awards and the 2018 Oscar-nominated documentary Faces Places, which JR co-directed with the legendary Agnès Varda, has been attracting rave reviews since its release last year. I’m amazed of what this artist have created @jr The essence of this project goes beyond anything I have seen till now, while watching one of the videos in the gallery I started to thinking about so many people that the artist have touched with this project and it gives me lot of feeling to know that as an artist he cares about what is happening around us. This is a global problem, thank you for taking it far and for somehow uniting the borders that somehow divide us. #photography#jr#facesplaces#blackandwhite#galleryperrotin#artstudent#art#citygraffclass18s IG42
I have to admit it is more exciting to find @jr on the streets but still his first solo show did not disappoint.
The piece pictured here is the tablecloth used in the picnic at the border of Tecate, where people gathered around the eyes of a dreamer on both sides of the border to share food, music and forget that walls exist for a moment.
