New York City has always been, and will always be, a place for pioneers, mavericks, inventors, and disrupters. In 1924 Beulah Louise Henry came to New York City to start two companies. She, like so many others, knew that access to opportunities and endless inspiration in a city filled with so much ingenuity would bring her great success. Beulah earned the nickname "Lady Edison" and over the course of her life was awarded 49 patents including a bobbin-free sewing machine and a vacuum ice cream freezer. Indeed there is no better place on earth to unleash your ideas into this world. Cheers to Lady Edison!
What woman inspires you?
Two things we learned at the recent Futureworks Shops lunch at @bronxinnovationfactory : 1) When launching a new space, create community guidelines to define culture and curate likeminded members. 2) If you're purchasing new machines, get machines that can make other tools - a laser-cutter to cut sawhorses, tables and chairs, for instance. #nycedc#futureworksnyc#advancedmanufacturing
