Q: HOW DO YOU GET “LOWER ABS”⁉️
Before we jump into the answer, let me be clear that there truly is no definition of “upper” and “lower” abdominals. When people talk about these “two regions” they are mainly referring to your recutus abdominis which are the “6-pack muscles” that run from your sternum to your pelvis [if you remember my post from a couple photos back, you can read all about how to obtain a ‘flat’ stomach by training this muscle group]. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, it is possible to activate certain parts of your abdominals. If a portion of your core is weak- it can cause other areas to become overactive which can lead to certain muscle groups such as your low back or hips to become more vulnerable to aches and pains. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, strengthening the entire “upper and lower” portions of your abdominal wall can help you relieve tight hips and low back pain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To get familiar with engaging your ‘lower abdominals’, lie on your back and squeeze your stomach as if you were getting ready for somebody to punch you. That’s the feeling you want to have throughout any core exercise- or any exercise in general. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now to get to your answer: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: Below are a few exercises that will help to strengthen your ‘lower abs’ I.e. the bottom of your rectus abdominis: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

▪️Leg Lifts ▪️Half-Burpee
▪️Fore-Arm Plank Rocks ▪️Jack Knives
