I think people need to consciously slow down the second half of their workout. I believe we unknowingly (or knowingly) speed up, rush, and compensate through the last part just to check the box. I challenge you to re-focus the last half of your workout as it is probably neglected! . 
Think about it, if you workout for 60 minutes and stop truly “working” half way through, your “workout” is only 30 minutes! That adds up over the course of days, months, years!

I think people need to consciously slow down the second half of their workout. I believe we unknowingly (or knowingly) speed up, rush, and compensate through the last part just to check the box. I challenge you to re-focus the last half of your workout as it is probably neglected! . ✅static lunge w/ single arm row
✅low to high cable chops

Mobility Monday. How is your foot and toe dorsiflextion? I didn't even know what that word meant 3 months ago. •
Dorsiflextion is the opposite of pointing the toes or also described as lifting the toes up toward the knee. I've been working on my mobility weaknessess this last year and I've learned that our ability to lift our toes is really important for functional movement like deep squatting, lunge stability, running stability; the list goes on.

Along with learning about dorsiflexion, I learned about this little muscle: the tibialis anterior. Smashing the fibers with a lacrosse ball hurts like hell, but the effects of this mobilization technique gives my knees, ankles, and arch a lot of relief from the tightness that builds up from from hiking, climbing, and standing. Thank's again Dr. Kelly Starrett (@mobilitywod) for helping me find my weak spots.

Starting the week off strong!!! Especially after a busy weekend. I love using cables in my workouts almost more than free weights! The exercises you can do with these are limitless but here’s one of my go to circuits for upper body. ✔️ Squat pull
✔️triceps pull down (really squeeze your triceps at the bottom and hold for a second or 2)
✔️shoulder press
✔️side lateral raises (I only do 5-7.5lbs on these and I like to do as many as I can to really get a good burn.) The amount of weight I do varies, but I like my last 2-3 reps to be challenging. I do 4-5 sets and always warm up with the row machine. 🎶 background music is black eyed peas 😉

For me, body positivity (the movement to accept all bodies, no matter what) is self care, which is equal to self love and self compassion. Self-Care is the most beautiful inner journey of getting to know yourself and learning how to honor your unique needs so you can give back to the people who matter most to you - like your family (friends and fur babes included). It's a lifelong commitment. It's an experimental game of balance, communication, time management, and oh so much more. •
It really is about learning how to take care of yourself - which often times looks more like saying no to fun things so you can just be alone for a second (something that's really hard for me to do). It's making YOU a priority and that is so freaking hard in today's world where we are encouraged from doing anything but that. •

📌Abdominal strength and motor control (i.e. knowing how and when to use the muscles) can be useful to train in athletes who need to better transfer force between the legs/arms and trunk as well as provide a stable base for the legs and arms to move upon

📌Additionally, in some individuals with low back pain who are sensitive to extension (arching backwards) of the lumbar spine (low back), it can be helpful to train the abdominals to control the spine from moving into extended positions

📌This isn't to say that these exercises are always necessary for anybody with low back pain, but that if an exam shows that an individual may benefit from abdominal strengthening, it can be a good option

Rowing has become one of my favorite things to do for cardio & warming up. Prior to this year, I had never really used a rowing machine for an extended period of time. Now I put it to use very often!!

Some of the main things that I’ve noticed, especially early on, is the full-body burn that it gives. Upper back muscles & legs are on fire. My gage is engaged majority of the time. The constant motion helps my knee mobility & flexibility. It is very low impact which is also beneficial to my knee health. And obviously, it is a cardiovascular machine so it helps the endurance/stamina as well. I usually knock out between 5-20 minutes before my workouts depending on how much time I have. This day was 20 minutes....

Give this a try for your fasted cardio this morning. Especially you walkers‼️ If you are below a certain age & have healthy legs you should NOT be walking. I don’t know why it drives me crazy seeing younger people walk on a treadmill for an extended period. My 80 year old grandma used to walk for exercise. Lol!
