Today was spent making pumpkin puree.  Anyone process their pumpkins after using them for decorations?? It is super simple- roast them in the oven, scoop out the flesh and purée in a blender.  I freeze them in small increments to use for recipes.  No yucky ingredients or canning residues 🙌🏻 Its easy, but makes a mess.  My girls were rockstars, I got out of the shower to see them scooping the pumpkin flesh into bowls ready for the blender and making a pile of scraps for the chickens.  I am amazed at how they are growing and finding joy in kitchen tasks. Not to mention stewarding well what God has given us ❤️

Let’s take a look at the differences between the terms organic, natural, conventional, and non-GMO.

ORGANIC:
- Produce that is grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation. Animals do not receive any antibiotics or growth hormones.
- Plants are grown using sustainable farming practices like crop rotation (rotating which fields certain crops are planted, saves more nutrients in the soil), and companion planting (planting different crops close to each other for added benefits). Animals are given organic food and have access to graze on pastures.
•
CONVENTIONAL:
- Produce relies on chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, etc. Animals are given antibiotics, hormones, and medications to promote rapid growth. Foods also contain artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives.
- Plants are grown using monoculture sequences (the same crops are planted in the same fields every year or every other year). This leads to nutrient depletion in the soil.
•
NATURAL:
- The only difference between natural and conventional is that natural foods do not contain artificial flavors, colors, or preservative. Everything else is not regulated.
•
GMO (Genetically Modified Organism):
- Plants are given genes that do not occur in nature. - Not a ton of research and the research being done is conducted by biotechnology companies.. ————————————————————————
- Is organic better for you? Yes. Studies show that organic produce contains 25% more nutrients than its counterparts. Studies also show that between the years of 1940 and 1991, conventionally grown produce has had a 76% drop in trace minerals.

- How can I save money buying organic? Buy from local farmers/farmers markets, buy in-season, and split your groceries by purchasing the organic foods that are know to have a greater risk for pesticides and buy conventional produce that is clean. Research “The Dirty Dozen and Clean 15.”

Getting to be hot cocoa season—add cinnamon to make it Thanksgiving-y! I find that for a sugar-free version, a mix of sweeteners works best. You can of course make with maple syrup or coconut sugar if you want to go all out with some real sugar.
1 cup full-fat coconut or almond milk
2-3 Tbsp raw cacao powder
1 tsp monk fruit sweetener
1 tsp stevia
1 tsp erythritol

2 onions
3 cloves garlic 
2 large carrots 
3 stalks celery
Leftover green beans 
24 oz broth

Cook on high for 6 hours

Looking for an easy healthy side for Thanksgiving??? 🦃. Try this delicious Quinoa and Butternut Squash dressed with Tahini dish. 
Butternut Squash
* 3 cups butternut squash, diced
* 2 Tablespoons olive oil
* 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
* 1/2 teaspoon paprika
* 1/2 teaspoon white pepper (black pepper works too)
* 1/4 teaspoon chipotle powder
* 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
* dash of cayenne (optional)
Cauliflower and Broccoli
* 3 cups cauliflower, chopped
* 2 cups broccoli, chopped
* 2 cloves garlic
* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 tablespoon tamari
* 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
* 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
Tahini Sauce
* 3 Tablespoons tahini
* 3 Tablespoons orange juice
* 2 Tablespoons tamari
* 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
* 1 Tablespoon olive oil
* 1 Tablespoon lime juice
* 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
* 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes

1️⃣Preheat oven to 415º.
2️⃣Prepare all ingredients as described above. In a large bowl add the squash, oil, and seasonings then toss. Place on a foil lined baking sheet.
3️⃣Add the cauliflower and broccoli, oil, tamari, garlic, and seasonings to the large bowl and toss again. Add to a separate foil-lined baking sheet.
4️⃣Place both baking sheets in the oven. Set a timer for 30 minutes for the cauliflower and broccoli.
4️⃣Once the cauliflower and broccoli are done, add 10 minutes for the squash to finish roasting (cauliflower and broccoli = 30 minutes; squash = 40 minutes).
5️⃣While the vegetables are roasting, prepare the sauce. Add all of the sauce ingredients to a medium mixing bowl and combine with a whisk. Set aside. Serve over steamy quinoa and pour the tahini sauce on top. Enjoy!

WHERE I’VE BEEN AND WHERE I’M GOING :: Hi, guys! I’ve been a little MIA lately. Thank you, life! There’s been a LOT going on and I’ve been feeling a little buried, but there are some exciting things happening!

1 - I am thankful to be part of the NTA’s Instruction Team as a Group Leader for this year’s Portland NTP class! I spent this past weekend with some amazing future practitioners. It was such a joy to be back in the classroom both learning and sharing what I’ve learned. Always so life-giving to be with the tribe and immersed in things I love!

2 - I’m finally taking a deep dive into the connection between my physical and emotional health, doing both NET (Neuro Emotional Technique) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with two different practitioners. These are ways to reprocess and work through emotional traumas and difficult memories that influence our current emotional limitations and physical health. It is INTENSE…it is HARD…it is draining…but it is INCREDIBLE. It is amazing that a traumatic memory that has defined you for so long can feel completely different and drained of its power after a two hour session. If you have ever doubted the connection between emotional and physical, just know that you can walk into a session feeling fine and leaving feeling like you were physically hit by a truck, and vice versa! I can’t wait to share more of my journey at some point.

3 - I’M GOING TO PERU! I have a big birthday coming up this week, so we’re taking an adventure!! Since becoming a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I have been fascinated with the ancient food traditions and culture in Peru…plus all of the colors, the landscape, the culture…and of course, the alpacas!! 😍 Can’t wait to share a bit of the journey with you! Stay tuned! ✈️🌎⛰️

Leaky gut is a condition where the normally semi-permeable membrane lining our intestine breaks down, allowing larger, undigested molecules and toxins into circulation.
↳(normally the only thing that gets through are pre-digested nutrients from our food—aka the good stuff).

When you have leaky gut, one of the concerns is that endotoxins (chemical compounds that are byproducts of bad bacteria that can grow in the gut) can “leak” into circulation, causing inflammation and immune stimulation in various tissues around the body.

So my friend Jessica gifted me with this SCOBY earlier today and I am all set and ready to get fermenting!!! It looks kind of gross and👽 like, but this crazy beautiful organism is going to be placed in some honey sweetened green tea where it will do its job of consuming the sugars and fermenting the tea. 
I’ll be left with a delicious probiotic and antioxidant rich beverage that I can ferment again with fruit and spices to add flavour. If I leave it long enough in the second ferment, it will become slightly alcoholic 🙌🏽🎉🙌🏽 We all know the health benefits of green tea. The fermentation process will actually serve to further boost the nutrient quality of the tea as well as increase its bioavailability. Pretty amazing, huh?!

Research has shown that persistent stress response hyperstimulation, can cause:

If you goal is to lose body fat, increase muscle mass or to increase strength you will have a tough time in doing so if chronically exposed to stress. The body cannot focus on losing body fat, gaining muscle or increasing strength if the priority of the body is to reduce stress and inflammation.

The Human body is meant to support a life until the age 110 years old (not a theory, a scientific fact).

So why are people dying at a much younger age? Why is the average life expectancy so low? Do you think living to 70 or 80 is a good amount of time to live?

To put things simple, our poor dietary choices are leading to a reduced lifespan.

By the Year 2070, scientists predict humans will be able to live until the age of 125 years old. This seems ridiculous, right?

Look at it this way. We have been evolving since the start of time, but only over the last couple of centuries we have advanced in leaps and bounds. We have started to live longer and fight off disease. Clearly the invention of new medicines have kept a lot Illness at bay, through prevention and cure. .
Along side this more and more science has come to light about certain foods and their nutritional value. We've become aware of Vitamins and minerals, bacteria (Good and bad) and how to use it, or keep it at bay. Most common diseases can be preventable by good nutrition. so, why are we not made aware of this? .
Doctors aren't trained in nutrition, they are trained in medicine and its prescription. If nutritional advice was given instead of medicine,  Human disease and illness, would be in a far better place. (I don't want to make this to political, so I won't)

Look at our diets (Western diet). Meat, sugar, some more sugar, laced with a whole bunch of Saturated fats!

A typical plate of food consists of a large slab of Processed meat, minimal veg and some fatty carbs, Most likely rounded of with a large sugury dessert. The UK has the largest obesity rate in Europe, and its for the reason of meals like these.

Not only are these type of meals detrimental to your overall health, the eating habits are passed from generation to generation.

Take your miso soup to the next level by using Dashi as the base. Dashi is a simple but vital stock used in Japanese cooking. It’s made with bonito flakes and  seaweed. Typically kombu is used,  it’s rich in iodine, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamins a, b, and c. Something that rubs me the wrong way is when people start a post, and it’s the “you’ve been lied to” “you’ve been doing it wrong” shock and awe verbiage that suppose to catch your eye and make you read further.  How often do you read further? Does that stuff work, or has it been over used so now there is no shock in the shock?

I’d rather give you straight up quality info. Today, I want to summarize some weight loss things for you!

8 proven ways to lose weight permanently:
1️⃣ Diet - This shouldn’t be a shock.  You’re like, well no shit, diet is important.  Beyond diet, it’s foods that help balance your blood sugar.  Higher blood sugar the less likely you are to tap into fat stores.  Better balanced blood sugar has been proven as an effective tool to lose weight.
2️⃣ Exercise - this is another no brainer.  Yes we need to exercise and move more in order to lose weight.  But this means different things for different people.  If you are adding too much exercise, or type into your routine, you can actually add stress to your body that fights against fat loss processes of the body. 
3️⃣ Stress reduction - Stress raises blood sugar levels in the body, and can actually cause weight gain not doing anything.  Reducing environmental stress/physical stress on the body will help weight loss.

Today I’ll be having chicken again for the first time in 8 weeks since I did a trial vegan run. Everything is sourced locally from my local farms @weirriverfarm for the chicken and beef and @hollyhillfarmcohasset for my vegetables. Thankful to have these farms close by for organic fresh whole foods. I’ll be making 2 Vegan dishes to bring to #thanksgiving on Thursday 🥰✨
2 onions
3 cloves garlic 
2 large carrots 
3 stalks celery
Leftover green beans 
24 oz broth 
1 bay leaf
Tumeric
Thyme
Ginger
Himalayan pink salt
Pepper
Cook on high for 6 hours
Remove chicken and with a fork shred the meat off then place back into soup. Enjoy. It will also freeze nicely for later. 🤤🤩 Chicken soup has always been very warming and healing for me.

Amazing couple of days at @cancercenterforhealing in the OC!! I didn’t see any Real Housewives (@vickigunvalson where you at?!😜) but I sure did see a TON of inspiring natural therapies for this disease that is SO prevalent in our society today. One key takeaway from @connealymd and other appointments- this disease is preventable! They also let me know mom is their longest living ovarian cancer patient they’ve ever seen. How cray is that?! (7 years y’all). Celeb status ova hereeee. If anyone knows someone struggling with this disease, I encourage you to check out @chrisbeatcancer — mom’s first resource that allowed her to dive head first into alternative therapies! happy Wknd insta peeps 👍🏼 ps don’t tell my Insta-less mom I bragged about her over here.
