This is the beginning of Hayden Dark Fitness!! I am a new trainer coaching out of Active Empire in Thornton
My background in the Military and in Crossfit has given me an excellent understanding of what it is that makes people become the strongest versions of themselves and that's 'consistency and 'hardwork' not just in the gym but also outside it
My specialties include
- Funtional movement
- Weightlifting/ Olympic lifting
- Metabolic conditioning
- Gymnastics - Range of movement/ Stretching (Overall things that make you Fitter, Faster and Stronger)
What I aim to teach my clients is not just how to move well and function better but also ways to make behavioural changes, nutritional help, how to drill good daily discipline and together help to move the needle in a positive direction to pushing away the nursing home well into their 90's.
So come on down to Active Empire and ask for me, Hayden Dark and together we can smash your goals and get out the best hour of your day!! ☺

How much do you vary your movement patterns? Crossbody movements are a wicked challenge & are SUPER important for physical, athletic & mental development
When we do crossbody movements the two sides of the brain are forced to communicate with each other & we get development within the Corpus Callosum which is an integral part in motor, sensory & cognitive performance
So if you want to develop your body both physically & mentally try out this bad boy out as an accessory when you’re finishing off your posterior chain 💪🏽
Super MIA at the moment. I'd say I'm super busy (which I am) but truth is I could stay up past 9pm to work on content but I value my sleep too much for that and too little for social media. I am sure there are people who are busier than I am but I am now convinced they don't sleep 😴 Anyway heres a pic of me going out last night on my one night off 😘 pop back when I can (want) 👋🏼
Long run today (just over 18km) with only 2 weeks to go until the Lorne @trailsplus and didn’t get any long runs in Fiji so it was good to get something done today. Completely unrelated, made this delicious rice noodle salad with grilled salmon for dinner tonight 😋
If you’re someone that is wanting to start running but thinks it seems too hard to begin, try and join someone you know that already runs and go on part on their run with them and when you reach your limit turn around you can walk back home. You’ll find in a reasonably short space of time you’ll be able to get a little further each time. It also important to push past your threshold, not just stop as soon as you feel it getting a little hard, that’s how you’ll increase your fitness. Another option is the NRC (Nike Run Club) app which has guided runs that you listen to if you’re going on your own. They have programs from beginner to advanced so give it a shot! Running doesn’t need to be daunting, the worst thing that could happen is that you need to walk...so what 🤷🏻♀️ at least you’ll be moving and getting a start. It’s only one foot in front of the other but gives you back so many things...time to yourself, stress relief, fresh air, improves your health, cardiovascular fitness, strength, and you can do it anywhere anytime.

For the past few months I’ve been focusing on bringing back balance to my body, in the process of this I’ve loss a hell of a lot of muscle mass.
But who cares...
The benefits I’ve felt in doing this is incredible! By participating in a regular yoga practise I now feel so much more embodied and in tune with my body.

Long term approach = great achievements 🌟
So many people nowadays expect to gain their “dream body” in 6-12 week “transformation” programs (and to maintain it for the rest of their life 🤦🏼♀️). Sure, you’ll most definitely see improvement and hit some pb’s in the gym, however there is no “quick fix” to achieve your ideal body and health goals (and maintain it!) in a short period of time.
Setting illogical targets will only set you further away from them. It can take months to years of practice, dedication, and routine to reach a specific fitness level. That’s why it’s important to focus on the small stepping stones to get you there.
So just a little reminder to keep chipping away. ⛏ Focus on how far you’ve already come, and think about the small changes you can make to help become a happier and healthier version of yourself 💪🏼
