Your mind quits first 🖤🖤🖤
Training solo builds our mental toughness more than riding with a group. A group (be it in person or virtual) pushes us to ride past the zone where we feel like giving up because we are motivated by competition, comradare etc. To some extent, pain is no longer at the forefront of our mind, however, when we are totally alone we must learn to create our own, distraction-free motivation.
A cool training studio, loud music, Strava, Zwift etc. are great tools, but at the end of the day we must turn inward (maybe just for a few minutes at a time) to learn how to cope with discomfort on our own. This keeps things in perspective. This trains our mind to quit later and later...
Learning to master one's self is key. I don't wake up with self-disipline pumping thru my veins, but I practice like I do. I know I am in my best shape when I can complete a 1 hr TT effort indoors with no TV, no music and no windows to look thru (and actually look forward to it).
A group is a welcome vacation from the monotony of training, but the real work is done alone. Do you agree? 🤔🤔🤔 #withlovefromwc#wattagecottage#motivation#cycling#cyclingshots#cyclinglife#fromwhereiride
This was my accidental outfit for a fancy lunch at @thegrovehotel for @bargedweller’s hen do back in May that earned me the nickname ‘Lycra’. Being newly alcohol free I figured I might as well take advantage of the lack of hangover I was gonna have on the Sunday and ride at least part of the way. In the end I was late on the day itself, didn’t have time to change into the dress I’d packed in my panier and styled out lunch in full Lycra. The staff hilariously valet parked my bike for me and no eyebrows were raised at my choice of look. Appaz this is where Obama plays golf when in LDN and it is also in general a secret hangout of international diplomats so am guessing the staff thought I was important enough not to bother with standard polite society attire. Howevs there is one dead giveaway to the fact that I am not a fully fledged femaioe MAMIL equiv - the trainers. I don’t ride clipped in and these Nike’s have way too soft a sole to qualify as bike wear. SO this is a very long winded way of asking: ‘what do footwear do you sport for riding if not clipped in?’ Am looking at you @ladyvelo @money_melon @deek87 @fashionpopcorn @mattbenstone and anyone else on my insta who may be able to help! I am doing @ridelondon next week and need a new shoe stat!!! .
