Coming to grips with moving on to the next chapter so bear with me as I publicly love on my favorite guy... Scotty, the baby, though he’s the tallest at 6’5”, of the Anderson grands, kicked/punted under “Friday Night Lights” in his last high school football game this past Friday. He had a great game starting with a squib kickoff that we recovered, a 39 yard FG, 2 perfect PATs, & numerous punts including a 65 yarder! We came up short score wise, but our guys played with heart & passion as they are definitely all “winners!” I am so very proud of Scotty’s athletic ability, but more so that he’s a team player & has always given credit where credit is due! His senior season started with Battle on the Border where he kicked a 44 yard FG to defeat Bishop Dunn ranked #2 in Texas & 35th nationally. After the game Scotty was quick to point out that without his teammate Braydon Hermès’ interception his FG wouldn’t have been possible. Whew, that made me sooooo proud! The next game he had another game winning FG which went in after hitting an opponent’s helmet. Following that game Scotty didn’t feel worthy of the praise when he received the KSLA Landers’ Dodge Athlete of the Week award... I reminded him that character is built more so on adversity than when all is well & though the award states “athlete of the week” it is given based on an overall view of how well an athlete performs over all seasons & Scotty had a stellar junior year season as well. He is now touted as possibly the best kicker/punter in Byrd’s history which is such an honor since the list is lengthy! Proud that the June before his junior year Scotty came to me discouraged about his punting. His actual words were “Mom, my punting sucks.” With encouragement he went out & worked all summer “on his own” though he had a few supporters such as his mama who ran down his footballs. Truly hard work & perseverance pays off! I remember his Calvary friends being none too happy with his punting skill in our 2017 game opener against his Cavalier cousin & teammates! Fun times! Sooooo here’s Scotty’s football story in a nutshell... *continued in post #2 because I’m too wordy!😂🙄 #kicker#punter#cebyrd#fridaynightlights
