🌍 ‘indigo–indigoing–indigone’ (2018), a little artwork using my #Bavaroir#typeface (#URW , 2003… https://bit.ly/2yJNNqG). ‘Bavaroir’ was the result of a design experiment to create a sans serif from lachrymals, and just fitted perfectly well to the famous three #lastwords from @t_robbins1956 ’s ‘#JitterbugPerfume ’ that in turn go so well with the image of our #blue#planet fading into the void as a consequence of #overexploitation . This #Earth 🌎 was constructed from #collapsing#fractals that even generate a sort of #shockwave on the perimeter. My inspiration was the categorical #dichotomous thinking that synthetics are toxic and bad for the #environment while naturals are healthy and sustainable, when in fact the production of naturals such as #essential oils can be a very resource-wasteful process, consuming lots of land, water and energy as also reflected in their high production costs. Best are of course synthetics involving #renewable resources, but there is just no way to create for instance all #rose notes🌹 in consumer products from natural rose oil 🥀 – that is far from being sustainable even for the prestige fine fragrance segment only. While it would not even be desirable in terms of perfumistic creativity, it should also not be aspired in terms of using our natural #resources#responsibly . Selling fragrances by their rare and expensive ingredients thus is a highly questionable approach and has led for instance to overharvesting Indian sandalwood trees. The main sales argument should be the artistic creativity of the perfumer, who of course has the duty to use raw materials responsibly as fragrances are to #enchant and #delight .
