Exploring the Central Coast fjords this summer was an amazing experience. Seeing the diversity of sponges and rockfish totally blew me away. This is a Mycale sponge, something we’ve seen a lot over 200m, but this guy was in 20m.
Captain @courtney.d.edwards got a chance to hand out with some Risso Dolphins this summer. These guys are usually found out in the open ocean hunting squid, but when the squid move in to spawn, the dolphins will follow for an easy meal. #rissosdolphin
Those bumps on this Humpbacks... back; are an unknown phenomenon popping up on Humpbacks all over the world. It’s different than the tubercules found on their faces, and whale biologists worry it could be an indicator of poor health. #sciencemystery
One of the first few things I did after I became a #british citizen was to donate my body to science, and the closest university that was linked to mine, Imperial, and in this case it was King's College London. Hey it's not like I'll be needing my bits after I pass on. The students can admire at my impressive anatomies. #donation#forscience#forthegreatergood
Here at Beau View we make sure to field test all our new products. Our researcher kitty put in some long hours testing the effects of the new Blueberry Dessert Sauce by New England Larder as a cocktail ingredient...... the results were delicious 😋 😂 #forscience#beauviewbbq#cocktails @newenglandlarder
Nov 16: People ask me what I do and I tell them I study computer science. Then the same people see me unloading this beast of a baby hospital bed off of an uhaul and you can see the ???? In their eyes.
Also HOLY SHIT these are heavy.
The Fjords of the Central Coast we’re way more diverse than I was expecting. Each nook had its own little ecosystem; like the freshly birthed Shiner Perch living among the hot springs algae mats. #divelife
Once the airplane was invented, aerial photography became the ideal platform for shoreline mapping
In 1919 the US Geodetic Survey worked with the airforce to compile photographs of coastal topography
Cocktails! #forscience ! Coolest exhibit was playing with the kinetic sand (pretty much an adult sandbox) and of course, playing with dry ice ... because that never gets old ! 😎 Thanks @og_sob for being on the council! #latergram#dryice#fog#drinks#injections
I binged all 4 episodes of the show based on this book on Netflix and ended up on a crazy Amazon shopping spree. Italian olive oil from Liguria and traditional Japanese soy sauce aged in cedar barrels for a year. Still waiting on my bag of あまびとの藻塩 seaweed salt. Can't wait to start reading (and cooking!) #saltfatacidheat#cookbook#cooking#foodie#forscience#treatyoself
