This was a beautifully presented #bentobox with several varieties of sushi in it. Opening this box was a joy - unwrapping the paper around it released the aroma of vinegary sushi rice. And then, the colors and the textures! I've eaten many cheap bento boxes in my life, but this one was an anticipatory experience beyond those other boxes.
And it was cheap - around 860 yen - and there's a reason for that. The slices of fish are really thin. Still, every piece of fish was delicious. I remember the mackerel especially, cold and spiked with rich umami flavor. And the rice lived up to the promise made when I opened the box, soft, vinegary, flavorful.
We bought this from Mitsukoshi in the #ginza district of #tokyo looking for something to eat. If I get a chance to go back, I will take a picture and write about that.
Big batch Sunday soup making. Italian flavoured three bean soup, with a little shredded poached chicken and orecchiette to make it go even further. It’s so full of veg which is perfect for these cold winter days as it packs in so much goodness. Now we have some for this coming week and some for the freezer which will get used over Christmas.
If you’re feeling fed up with mince pies, how about a cinnamon roll? This could be the cutest Swedish bakery in London and the cinnamon rolls are heavenly! To read the full post click the link in my bio!
Sometimes brunching at home can be kinder on the wallet and even better in taste because it’s done how you like it! This is my usual avocado toast with chilli, coriander and egg combination that is a regular to my weekly eating patterns. What did you eat today?
This beautiful Bangladeshi homestyle lamb and potato curry is perfect for warming up winter evenings. Loaded with aromatic spices and comforting potato chunks, it's perfect paired with rice or naans. The recipe is in my cookbook. (Link in bio) ☺️ beautifully styled by the fab @thefreshginger and shot by my talented pal Peter @atlasandboots #foodstyling#foodstylist
It’s Christmas time...what better time than to break out this giant 6L Methuselah 2012 @silveroakcellars Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with friends? Needless to say, there wasn’t a drop left. 🍷🍷🍷#cheers#sante#wine#winetime#winewithfriends

Aaaaand I’m home!
I may have only been away for 12 days, but to me it has felt longer but in a good way. There have been highs and lows but mostly what I have gained are huge insights and a renewed confidence in my own abilities as a friend and stranger; writer and traveller. I am delighted to be home where my loves are: my husband who has kept everything going in my absence AND decorated our home with a gorgeous spruce to welcome me with; and of course The Kids: Buddy & Maisie with whom I am long overdue cuddles and splodges from wet noses.
Friends and relatives have kindly put me up with a bed for a night here and there on my travels, and I am full with a sense of excitement for where my writing will take me thanks to the inspiring workshop with two very special ladies: @diannemjacob & @lifesafeast - thank you for the opportunity to learn from you!
Time now to settle back in, reacquaint my derrière with the dip in the sofa and enjoy a home cooked meal of roast beef, roasted spuds, fluffy Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings made by my husband @jasryan ... home most certainly is where the heart is 💗
Today my heart is full with gratitude and love.
And our stomachs full with all the food I made through the day.
My brother and sister-in-law visited us for the first time after their wedding and to welcome the couple I cooked a special lunch which included some favourites in our family. Swipe to see pics. The menu was:
1. Pumpkin Soup With Pistachios
2. Paneer Cheese With Black salt and Black pepper
3. Oven roasted Vegetables
4. Fusilli with Basil Pesto
5. Basil and Rosemary Focaccia Bread
6. Chocolate Ganache Cake
You will find the pumpkin soup, focaccia bread and cake recipes on my site. Link in profile.
😉#foodwriter#foodandbeverage#vinho#wine

For The Best London Hidden Eateries
Called in for a Gujarati lunch home today from Soam Restaurant in Babulnath and the Surti undhiyu was the star dish of course as it is winter. I also had the Surti Undhiyu from Regal Stores, Bandra, along with it. The dishes share the same name and yet the latter was more spicy than the former. Both nice in their own ways. An example of the variety that exists in Indian food.
Also starring in our meal from Soam was khichiya papad (which is rice flour based), beautiful grandma’s kitchen like farali aloo, dal khichdi, kadhi and moong dal sheera.
A Gujarati vegetarian meal which made this Bengali happy. And the Parsi side of our family who are from Surat.
Big thanks to Pinky Dixit Chandra of Soam for organising this when I called her while she was having breakfast today. The lunch gave us lot of joy.
This week my recipes in the Tmag of Times of Oman - Gratin
Hi peeps !
I am a die hard , crazy crazy fan of Gratins!
If I don’t know what to cook and have some veggies left over , I make a gratin.
Gratin was first made in France and is a cooking technique where the top is browned.
The top is either bread crumbs , cheese or egg white and its prepared / baked in a shallow dish.
Here is the recipe link of the same 👇🏻
Chicken macaroni is my child’s fav and mine too!
Thank you Team Times of Oman for this privilege of writing for you !
Humbled I am !
Have a fab fab weekend you all !#muscatbloggers#happy#omanblogger#muscateats#foodwriter#gulfymomdiaries#oman#muscat#omanbloggers#oman
