Why is it that the kids isle at most grocery stores are filled of artificial colors/flavorings and preservatives that are slowing down their brain development and preventing them from taking in the essential nutrients they need to grow! Diseases take years to fully evolve, you don’t just develop diabetes overnight now. If kids are already beginning to eat processed foods, their chances of developing a health related disease as they grow older become very high.
Kids first off need access to healthy foods and snacks that won’t send their blood sugar levels through the roof. Why is it that kids have kid food and us adults have adult food?! Real food is real food, simple as that. So instead of sending your kid off to school with sugar filled, all natural bars as they say, wake up 15 minutes earlier and make them a couple energy balls. Hey you can even add in some raw cocao powder to give it quite the delicious chocolatey taste most kids love. Now if all kids ate real foods, they’d be able to actually pay attention in classrooms, wouldn’t be bouncing off the walls of your house at 9 o’clock at night and most importantly they’ll be truly happy and healthy as they continue to grow and mature to live the lifestyle they need in order to achieve their DREAMS.
Real Food Energy Balls
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
- 1/4 cup walnuts
- 1/4 cup cashews - 1 tbsp raw local honey
- 2 tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1 tbsp raw cocao powder
- 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tbsp @furtherfood collagen peptides - 1/4 cup raw pistachios, processed for rolling balls in.
1.) Add all dry ingredients to a food processor, process until everything is finally chopped.
2.) Add processed nut mixture to a large mixing bowl. Now it’s time to add in remaining ingredients, leaving out the pistachios for the best part (rolling the balls in). 3.) Now mix together until everything is well combined. Form into bite-sized balls and roll each ball into the processed pistachios.
4.) Now you got yourself quite the delicious & nutritious snack, great for kids and adults. Enjoy!

I am so excited to share with all of you this image not only because I hope it inspires you to make a delicious meal, but also because I am teaming up with one of my favorite companies: @fieldroast.
Nearly 12 years ago, when I went vegan, the market was pretty tragic. Vegan cheeses tasted like plastic, vegan meats were rubbery and bland, and the non-dairy milks were just starting to break through. When I first stumbled upon @filedroast I was over the moon. Finally! A vegan meat product that had an amazing texture that was not only bursting with flavor but also that had an incredibly respectable ingredient list. Ever since then, I always have something of theirs in my fridge to cook up when I'm craving that satisfying meaty texture. One of my favorite products to incorporate into my recipes, like this Jambalaya above, is the Italian style sausage links made up of only the best stuff. They use a grain meat base with fresh vegetables such as eggplant, onions, and garlic. For the liquids, they add zesty lemon juice, rich red wine, organic apple cider vinegar and finally mix in the seasonings; fennel seed, sweet red pepper, and fresh garlic. The result is a vegan sausage link that cuts and cooks just like sausage. These are perfect for bringing to a BBQ to grill or to use in traditional recipes that call for Italian sausage.
For this particular dish, I wanted to make something portable for a tailgating party I was going to. First I cooked some chopped mushrooms and some sliced Field Roast Italian Sausage in a large crockpot until they were nice and browned. Then I added celery, bell peppers, onions, garlic, fresh tomatoes, roasted tomatoes, loads of seasonings and spices, fresh herbs, and rice. I cook everything until the rice plumped up and absorbed all the flavor. The result was fantastic! Along with the dish, I made some garlic bread, because why not?
