It's interesting that this label says the vitamin C ascorbic acid is derived from tapioca which is true and claims there are no traces of corn.  What about the other culprit on this label? Who can pick it out that is derived from corn if you have a corn allergy? 🌽🌽 Intolerances build up in your system over time gradually, then however your body responds, hits you. It can take 2 weeks to a month. 
If I absolutely need a supplement, and no powder is available, I'll actually dump the powder out of the capsules. It's a pain in the butt, though worth it

Dinner tonight was something quick to throw together. One of those stir fry veg packs with noodles and my homemade sauce. Grandad really enjoyed it as well.
For dessert I had my homemade vanilla and choco marble cake with #lactosefree ice cream, blueberries and #chocshot. 😋

Already missing Iceland's array of freshly baked sourdough and croissants and pastries and all of those fun treats that usually cause GI symptoms for me. 
I hear this a lot from people visiting Europe - that they can tolerate and enjoy more foods there than here in the US. Why is that? Perhaps it's because most places in Iceland are serving breads that have been traditionally baked without commercial yeast (a la sourdough). Even at the national park cafeteria and the airport. Perhaps it's because 99% of the food they grow on the island is organic and they don't use gmos, their meats are free-range, grass/hay fed, their fish is freshly caught, etc. Also could be that I'm on vacation enjoying a more leisurely pace, surrounding myself in nature and being very active... all things I will try to extend to life at home.

can I be real. the last 72 hours have sucked. it’s been horrible. our kitty has been suffering. refusing to eat and we actually thought she was in labour and maybe it had stalled because of complications. so I took her into the vet this morning and she was rushed into emergency surgery because she had a life threatening infection. she wasn’t pregnant at all but was so swollen and contracting because of the infection. // needless to say it’s been a rough go. BUT because I’m not ever gonna just rain on anyone’s parade with sad stuff, there’s always a positive. SHE SURVIVED SURGERY! and no matter what is going on in our lives we need to smile. we need to speak positively. sometimes life is hard. and that’s okay, but I promise even just smiling can help. // OH and I wanted to do nothing but eat my feelings 😆 ya know all the donuts and ice cream please. BUT I made this bad boy instead. packed with tons of nutrients and satisfying. yucky food isn’t gonna make me feel better and I certainly don’t want my treats to be associated with sad times. food isn’t a reward or comfort. enjoy your treats. but not because something good or bad happened. just enjoy them. so today this is MY WIN! no emotional eating 👌🏻 also sharing the recipe for the smoothie 🍓 in my stories ✌🏻

Diese Rolle habe ich früher immer mit Lachs gegessen. Auch sehrcoft an Geburtstagen als Fingerfood. Durch meine Lachsallergie und #histaminintoleranz ist das nicht mehr möglich - aber nicht mit mir! 😜
Ich habe einen glutenfreien Pfannkuchenteig mit WS (Weinstein) Backpulver und Wachteleier hergestellt. Den gestrigen Pesto auf laktosefreien Frischkäse auf den gebackenen Teig geschmiert. Den harten Gemüse ,,weich“frittiert, damit es belegbar wird und in der Rolle sich an den Teig anschmiegt. Röstaromen sind außerdem immer lecker 😍 Meine Gemüseauswahl beschränkte sich auf Zucchini, Zwiebel und rote Paprika. Zusammen mit der selbstgemachten, knoblauchlastigen Pesto (Basilikum + Macadamia) ein Genuss. Alles zusammen habe ich mit Folie zu einer Rolle eingedreht (wie Sushi). Ab in den Kühlschrank und abwarten. Rolle rausnehmen, in Stücke schneiden - fertig ❤️😍 Perfekt für Parties. 
Hättet ihr Lust das auch auszuprobieren? Ich würde mich freuen eure Ergebnisse zu sehen, auch gerne mit anderen Füllungen 😋. Ich werde diese Rolle nochmal machen, allerdings mit Fleisch. 😉

Been treating SIBO but still bloated?

This is something that happens quite often actually.  More often than you might think.
.
It also happened to me.
.
When I was diagnosed with SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) in early 2016 my knowledge of it was pretty basic.
.
I had almost 4 years of Naturopathic study in my brain by then, as well as 3 years in clinical practice.
.
Great knowledge of the body and natural healing, but specific to SIBO is was pretty basic.
.
SIBO awareness has grown SO much in the past few years.  Back then there wasn’t too much info around. .
Most of the studies on it only date back to 2014 (it’s been around way longer, just documented by different names).
.
So. SIBO.
.
My test result came back showing that I was positive for both methane and hydrogen SIBO.  The hydrogen way more dominant though… numbers didn’t even fit on the chart.
.
Literally, my numbers were OFF the charts!
.
On one hand I was devassssstated by the news.
.
But on the other hand I was stoked.
.
Say what????
.
Yup.  I was.
.
Because it meant I had an answer.
.
An answer to why digestion had always been so hard for me.
.
Why my tummy puffed out after each and every meal.
.
Why I could gain 4kg literally overnight.
.
I saw a light at the end of the tunnel of my tummy woes. :-)
.
I can also be grateful for the experience.
.
I can very much relate to my clients at their level because I’ve been there myself.  I’ve been through the very same struggles.  I know how it feels to the very core.
.
I also know what going through SIBO treatment is like.  And I know which mistakes to watch out for and avoid.
.
One mistake I made with MY treatment:
.
I didn’t RE-TEST.
.
I did a combination of water fasting and elemental diet first.
.
...got so confused and overwhelmed by all the conflicting information on what to eat I threw a tantrum and said “fuck it! I just won’t eat”...
.
(now I use the “bi-phasic diet” most with my clients - most effective)
.
Felt sooo much better after the three weeks.
.
But I still got bloated.
.
And when I started eating again I got excited by all. the. foods.  Went too fast with re-intro. 
Okay, so that’s two mistakes.

This past weekend N and I drove down to San Diego for an evening wedding. Before we left, I stopped at a grocery store and stocked UP on GF DF snacks to bring put in my purse during the wedding/possibly as dinner. (Tap on the photo for the brands)⠀

99% of events and weddings don’t fit with how I’m eating right now. And that’s okay, it just means I do a little bit extra to make sure I’ve got food that I can eat, that works for me. ⠀

Did I eat all of these snacks at the wedding? No, but knowing I had an arsenal of food to eat was comforting to me. There were some hors d’oeuvres I could eat, but dinner wasn’t food I wanted to “try and see” if it has gluten in it. So I happily ate my snacks, knowing that I was covered and enjoyed the rest of the wedding.⠀

If you’re going to an event around an eating time and you don’t know what’s being served, you can do one of two things: ⠀
1. Bring your own arsenal of snacks ⠀
2. Eat a filling meal beforehand. ⠀
.⠀
Go with whatever works for each event and have fun! Food is just one part of most events, connecting with people, experiencing something new, celebrating, and creating new memories is what it’s really about. ⠀

Love the food that loves you back 🍉 😁 Back a quick but great family gathering out west and the last scheduled vacation of the summer, I’m back to diving into my routine once again. I think it’s time to start reintroducing some foods back into my diet to see if I can tolerate them at this point or if they still act as ‘triggers’. Now I've come up with something I can put my jam or salami on. 🤗 Maybe it's helpful for others who have the same problem with intolerances or people who want to avoid sugar, starches etc.🌰🍞
⏩Ingredients: 3 overripe bananas, 1 bag of ground hazelnuts (100g), 5 eggs, about 3 tablespoons of ground linseed, some oil and salt. I added some leftover gingerbread spice, but that's optional. Mashed everything together and cooked it like pancakes. 🍳
They don't look that beautiful, but they are tasty, sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, contain no artificial stuff. Because of the linseed they don't fall apart like other starchless pancakes.
None of the ingredients is dominant. To me it really tastes bread-like. 😋

Sunday Dinner- hamburger (bunless for most of us), just Mayo, mustard, homegrown tomatoes, lettuce, corn cob, and salads. (We offered many condiment and bread for my parents who joined us).
Special spur of the moment dessert: cherry pie filling (one of my oldest's favorite things) and @aldiusa granola mixed with butter and oat flour for topping. Bake for 20 min and serve with coconut whipped cream. Not amazing but good for a quick treat.

What burger do you usually go for? I’d actually prefer a vegetarian version but that’s almost impossible to find without onion & garlic.

Winding down and warming up with lemon and ginger tea ♡ With antimicrobial properties and so good for digestion, this tea is much nicer (and cheaper) to make yourself. Steep a few pieces of ginger (crush them a little with a knife) and lemon slices in boiling water, cover for 10 mins and then serve. Meredith x

Let’s talk Candida. 
My 5yo son William, has Candida again in  his bowels. 
He has leaky gut, numerous food intolerances, is recovering from parasites and now has Candida again. 
He was going so so well and then I gave him half a banana and half a mandarin as I am trying to introduce more food into his diet as it’s currently so restricted. 
Well.... he is now extremely bloated and unable to toilet properly. His immune system has gone down. His skin has started to rash again. 
We are on medication for this and back to the restricted diet. 
Dr has said that William is so sensitive he can’t have any fruit apart from apple and berries until he is at least a teenager....omg this is never ending!! Interestingly one of the questions he asked about Williams diet was what does he have for breakfast. I said fermented buckwheat bread with EveryMite. He was satisfied with this. 😄

I find this so overwhelming and kept thinking that it shouldn’t take this long...... I’ve had such a busy weekend, and I’m still lacking energy from last week’s flare up so my boyfriend treated me to a takeaway of my choice tonight to save me cooking. I usually hate the idea as I have limited options, but he rang a local Italian restaurant called @piccolomondosouthampton on @deliveroo and they made me a low FODMAP, gluten free pasta arrabiata which was delicious. I think this is the healthiest takeaway I’ve ever had! Sometimes it’s worth calling restaurants to ask about food intolerances, it’s surprising how accommodating they can be!

Ive been searching for @mallowandmarsh products for ages. Finally stumbled across them in my local @Sainsbury’s this Saturday for a naughty snack run 🙌🏻 They are gluten free and come in a range of different flavours, they had vanilla with milk chocolate, coconut with dark chocolate and raspberry with dark chocolate which are more suited for me with reducing the amount of dairy I have as I find dairy makes me extremely bloated. OLD ‘FRIENDS’ -hmm now those of you lucky enough to be able to tolerate dairy (and big handfuls of refined sugar eaten in one sitting) I am thrilled for you! 🍫 Sadly dairy and milk chocolate however fancy pants and Artisan it is is no friend of mine. I bought this last night from the wine shop (no complaints there:) as a complete emotional purchase. 🍫  I have since then eaten big handfuls of them, hidden them from myself and eaten some more (sharing with no one!). I am intolerant to dairy. It’s cut and dried. I get nasal congestion, constipation, sores on my tongue, cold sore outbreaks, pimples and ulcers. All at once! It’s a no go area. But when life gets stressful as it did this week I have reached for it. To ‘get me through’. 🍫  I find I am all or nothing. Somethings just can’t come into the house. It’s been 6 weeks since I finished a really successful cleanse. Gut gardening we could call it. I was in communication and getting support from my dear friend and naturopath at @darlinghealth_sydney - don’t laugh Sydney isn’t that far away!! Anyway my point is nutritional coaching is key to how we work as Naturopaths. It’s not all herbal tinctures and supplements. Its about setting goals and being held accountable to those goals to get you feeling A LOT BETTER. It REALLY works for me. I stuggled to exercise and didn't do much because I was too tired and felt sick all the time. Even afterwards, I still didn't like going out because I didn't know what to eat, I had to organise it all and I was self conscious of the bloating and worried that I would have a reaction in public 🤷‍♀️

Point is, having a digestive disorder really does affect you in so many ways. I know that there are so many people with various gut issues, and I just want to say that it doesn't always have to be that way! You can heal, and you can restore your health to feel happy and whole. It does take time, but if you stick with it then things do change. Have a great weekend 🐶

So my advice for you would be to do similar.

Find a SIBO Expert that you trust.

And listen to them.

If you try to follow the FODMAP diet, annnd the SCD diet, annnd the Paleo diet, annnnd the Bi Phasic Diet you’ll be left eating…. ice pretty much!

So does 7 + 3.

There’s multiple ways to get to your goal.  But if you try and go all the ways it’ll take forever. .
And by the time you get there you’ll be exhausted.

We definitely #limitsugarintake 🍭🍭with our daughter and she rarely ever has 🍬 candy, but on occasion she has special treats!!! She survived her first week of Prek with a few tears 😥 and some stories about boys picking on her, but mostly she had a great week!! This was her first time ever having caramel (she was so excited 😆 she got to have 2 of them), and these are dairy and gluten free!! I really got these as a special surprise for my husband. He’s a huge 🍭 lover (I’m surprised there were any left for him to share 🤣) , but he only has 🍭 🍬 occasionally now. No 🥥 or sugar for me , so I didn’t try them. However, they were a big hit with those two!! I found these @jjscocomels @homegoods on my last 🛒 spree. Check out @homegoods grocery/snack area for lots of allergy friendly and cleaner products. Tonight’s dinner was neither fast nor simple. We started making these chicken pot pies from scratch on Tuesday. That pitiful looking one on the right is a dairy free, grain free version for me. The almond flour crust failed. 😢 But the gravy was awesome! Since I had to make my own pie, I happily added any veggies I wanted. 😆 Mushrooms! Celery! Onions!  Carrots! Cauliflower rice! (Which I hate, but figured it would disguise well here LOL). I’ll have to find another crust recipe to try. For the other pies, there’s real butter, flaky crust, real creamy soup, veggies in one, no veggies in the other. Everyone should be happy!
