Finally time to review Rola Wala! I know a lot of you have been waiting for me to review it before you try it. Let's start with service - it was great. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. We were offered the sauces to try out before we ordered our meals as we weren't sure about spice levels. The mint, lime and pineapple was our favourite and what we went for! The tomato & Naga is a killer - you've been warned! ⚠
You can order your meal as a roll or bowl with 1 or 2 sides. We chose to have a chicken tikka spice bowl with 2 sides of avo chaat salad and the string fries with a drink (£12.45) and a chargrilled paneer roll with the same 2 sides and a drink (£12.45). .
The food itself is not traditional Indian - it is definitely a fusion with a modern twist. For example, instead of traditional chaat you have a avocado chaat comprised of mango, avocado, cucumber, imli, chutney and sev. Personally I'd rather have the traditional. We really enjoyed the fries and the portions were extremely generous! Love the fact that the naan is a sourdough naan! It doesn't hold together well though as naan rolls never do! Easier to eat it with your hand by breaking it apart.
If you are looking for traditional Indian then this may not be for you, however can make a nice lunch with a kick if you want something different. I think I'd opt for a roll next time as there was too much rice for me.
Meat is halal but pre-stunned as stated in menu. There are vegan and vegetarian options available. Swipe 👈 to see all pictures.
Oh yes!! Treating myself to this absolute loveliness via @deliveroo - it arrived so crispy and fresh (not at all greasy) super impressed 😊 (and yes, that’s a MASSIVE dollop of mayo and stupidly the curry sauce is out of shot!) #humpday#fishandchips

Black bean chili with dark chocolate and pork. Swipe for recipe! Tried out black beans this time with my usual chili and it definitely goes well with it.
3rd pic. Soaked the beans for 9 hours and cooked them for around 90 minutes. Instructions said 80-100 minutes.
4th pic. Seared some onions in olive oil with some salt/pepper/garlic powder.
5th pic. Added the ground meat and seared it for a few minutes. I used pork this time.
6-7th pic. Added spices (smoked paprika, birds eye chili, cayenne pepper), a can of diced tomatoes, a can of tomato puree and about 4 dl water. Mixed well, bought to simmer, covered and cooked over the lowest heat possible for 1 hour at least.
8th pic. After 1 hour I added the beans and continued to cook it covered for 30 minutes. Removed cover and cooked for another 30.
9th pic. This is how it looked in the end. Added the brown sugar and dark chocolate.
10th pic. This is how it looked after adding the chocolate and cooking for a few minutes. Sauce should thicken.
