When visiting Joshua Tree National Park the activities are unlimited. It's the only Park I know of that lets you go 'off trail'. There are serveral designated hiking trails and campsites but you can also pick a rock and go climbing, or hike out to camp in the brush. (Be mindful of signage - some spots are off limits)
The first hike we tried on our last visit was the Barker Dam loop. This easy to moderate trail was highly entertaining - gorgeous views, rocks to climb, a water feature, and these petroglyphs. Does anyone else see ancient things and have a hard time believing they are real? Just me? Ok then. Even if they aren't original it's still pretty cool to see.
Joshua Tree is such a beautiful place, it's no wonder it was made a national park. When you think of national parks usually towering trees and mountains come to mind, but Joshua Tree is different. ___________
The park is hundreds of acres of open space and the only trees are these spiky Dr. Seuss looking trees some dude named Joshua named after himself. (There are a few other species of trees but these are the main deal)
Took a break from wheeling for a minute to check out the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park in #moab I had a great time hiking with my lovely Wife. I mean it was neat and whatever but I would rather be out on a trail in my Jeep! I can look at the arch through my binoculars while I run 7 Mile Rim anyway. 🤷😀😂 #archesnationalpark
Recently went to @joshuatreenps with @medical_mechanical. He'd never been and I had a national park annual pass I'd gotten for Christmas last year that I shamefully hadn't used yet. The long drive is actually a part of the trip I look forward to, I enjoy road trips more than the hectic schedule of flying. One reason is because you can take your text and stop whenever you want to see things you'd normally miss when flying over.
Any time you drive east on the 10 you've got to stop in Cabazon to visit with the Pee Wee dinosaurs. They've been painted since the last time I'd been and I can't decide if I like the paint job. Have you ever been? What's your opinion on road trips? Let me know your favorite spots to pull over!
