This is the self-titled debut by Tracy Chapman, released in 1988. The road to this album starts with Tracy Chapman attending Tufts University, while a fellow student named Brian Koppelman was trying to find a singer for a boycott he was organizing against apartheid at school and many mentioned Chapman's name as the perfect fit, given her lyrics always attached social or political views, and held a simple acoustic sound behind it, rather than the mainstream dance pop and synth music. Koppelman attended one of her coffeehouse sets and immediately saw something in her. Approaching her after the set, he mentioned his father was a co-owner of a large publishing company that could help her start a career in music, but Chapman didn't believe him initially. Koppelman wasn't deterred and attend more of her shows, which led her to agreeing to speak with him, and he was able to make a copy of one of her demo tapes recorded at the Tufts radio station to send to his father. Things moved quickly from there and she was signed to Elektra Records, which produced an album that would receive critical and commercial success, going six-times platinum, as well as grabbing the 1988 Grammy Awards for Best Female Pop Performance for the single Fast Car, Best Contemporary Folk Album and Best New Artist. Hot Rod stepped right up to appear in tonight's post as soon as he heard "Fast Car" because it spoke to him. Probably because he is one. #tracychapman#selftitled#elektrarecords#folkmusic#contemporaryfolk#transformers#poweroftheprimes#autobothotrod

DAY OF SHOW INFO, PLEASE READ: We're looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday night for the SOLD OUT show featuring The Honeygoats, @chickenwireempire , and @barbaro_band at @plymouthartscenter! There's a few things we want to pass along that will help make your evening as enjoyable as possible:
Parking in the lot PAC itself is very limited, but there is plenty of free parking across Mill Street to the south, and also in the lot to the west of the PAC along the building.
The room will be set up with chairs. It will be open seating, first come first served, and doors will open at approximately 6:30pm. To be honest, this is going to be an intimate show and there won't be a bad seat in the house, so no need to stress about getting a good spot. The show will start at 7pm sharp. .
If you need pre-show food and spirits, there's a number of great options. If you're in the mood for a great burger, City Club has the best in town. Antonio's Sports Bar & Antoinette's Casual Dining will cover you for casual dining with everything from appetizers to entrees. If you're in the mood for pizza, DeO'Malley's Pizza Pub has a great selection of specialty pies!
Plymouth Brewing Company will be serving their very own craft brews inside the PAC during the show, but their taproom is just a few blocks down the street and will be open at 5pm if you need some extra pre-game lubrication. Cool little place!
All these establishments have been kind to The 'Goats in the past, and it would be great if you could show them some support while you're in town! We love Plymouth, and we hope you can spend some extra time seeing what the downtown has to offer!
And finally, remember that after our show is over, you can take your ticket stub out to Victorian Village and get into the The Nomad Music Experience for half-price. The party at NOMAD goes til 2am, so you'll have time to catch great acts such as The Bowser Band and NATTY NATION, and possibly more! Help support another great event in the area! .
It's gonna be an awesome night, everyone! We can't wait...
