4 belgian cities in 2 days, 2 flights + 4 trains + 2 buses, ~10000000 steps and ~0 hours of sleep...id say my first european travel weekend was a success! i flew to belgium with 1 other friend but we ended up doing our own thing, so this was my first successful solo trip as well! there was something so peaceful about wandering around the cities on my own accord, taking it all in (the heavenly smells & views).
for my psych of time class we have an experimental project due this week where we have to spend 5 days with an adjusted time perspective (based on the ZTPI test) & it comes as no surprise that i am VERY future oriented (both positive & negative). bc of this, i decided to switch my time perspective to be extra “present hedonistic” & this weekend in belgium provided me the perfect opportunity to test it out. rather than making an hour by hour game plan each night like i do for almost every single day, i let myself just get lost in the cities & stumble upon all the top spots (ok i used google maps a fewww times too). i didn’t look up places for all my meals of the weekend, instead just looked at cafe menus / grocery stores as i passed them by. i was disconnected from my phone (other than the camera function ofc) & walked alone, really focusing on the present moment & everything around me. it was LOVELY! having no game plan for what to do & see wasn’t as stressful as i would’ve imagined, rather it was quite relaxing to just discover things as the day went on. also after being very anxious the couple days before, this time perspective made me forget about all the impending work that was stressing me out & let me clear my mind to just be thankful for the care free days i could have in the right here & now.
