Shoppers at Costco in El Cerrito have no idea that just beyond the parking lot and through some scrub and weeds lies a beach covered with millions of ceramic fragments where sand and shells would be. It is the strange burial ground of cast-offs from the Tepco pottery company, est. ca. 1930. Tepco supplied tableware for the Navy and restaurants all over California, including the kitschy drink cups for Trader Vic’s and Doggie Diner. Thanks for the intro, @arielplotnick.
