I really don’t know what to call this... 😐 Let’s call it the gummy brain bowl 🤷🏻‍♂️🧠 This was a little odd, but weirdly enjoyable to eat. I had some gummy candy left over and decided to make a bowl consisting of body parts, which turned out to be pretty cool. Definitely fits the Halloween theme that’s coming up soon. The oatmeal itself looks kinda like a brain.

Anyway, this weekend has been a desperately needed brain break. I feel a little anxious about not doing much, but I feel like I really just needed to let myself step back and chill out.
.
Everything is starting to feel like routine to me and when this happens I end up not growing or becoming stronger. I tend to burn out and get setback. For example, I have been following my strength training program and I’ve started to get weaker. I feel less motivated to go to the gym and my body feels way too fatigued to progress. So to fix this, I need to back off a little and let my body repair itself to be able to come back stronger. This is the same for your mental strength as well. If you constantly bombard your mind with too much overload, it eventually will burn out and regress. This is a big reason why I love lifting so much: Almost every lesson and aspect of lifting I learn can be directly applied to many different areas of my life.

I hope you could take something away from that. I really don’t know if I make sense some times, but hopefully I can help some of you guys out with my thoughts on stuff. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Let’s make next week a good one!

I have a medical degree, work experience, skills and was applying to all sorts of jobs for months. However no matter how much proficient I might be in surgery, anything new will come as a surprise. And these weeks were definitely a struggle and a surprise.

I struggled to keep up with the pace everyone seemed to do things and to finish my check lists. I struggled to keep myself running errands around the wards. I struggled to balance my working placement hospital hours with my fitness placement hours. I struggled to get food in in between patients and to run to the toilet without seeming too obvious. I struggled to have time to train and that I had to cut down on the number of workouts.

But.

I was surprised of how much better and proficient I was by the end of only one week. Surprised of how supportive and amazing my team is. I was surprised that I could still fit in my clothes after eating so much food during sponsored lunch meetings (YAS for sushi. And burgers. And brownies. And cakes. YAS for future lunch again today). Surprised that I actually enjoyed every single day drinking my usual almond latte and was craving for it even ✌️

Many times we think that nothing has changed, but when we look back everything has changed. Many times we criticise ourselves for not doing this and that, that we haven't achieved anything but if we really go back in time, we can see how many things we have done and how proud we should be of ourselves.

I was honestly surprised to see a few weeks ago that my muscle percentage was relatively the same in my last body scan considering that I’ve dropped from hip thrusting with a bar 210kg to just a mere 50kg with 2-pilled up and unstable dumbbells and two strong-ish knee bands.

That only proves that all those fancy machines aren’t superior to GOOD and WELL THOUGHT exercises and a solid workout program. And that in some cases those machines can be even less effective. Last year I worked out during one month with nothing but a hospital tube torniquette (a tube to compress the arm veins and take out blood more easily) and I managed to keep my muscle mass (obviously strength came down because I had no big weights but I managed to recover everything in 4 weeks after restarting using weights again).

My point is that having 12 different machines for lat pulldowns doesn’t make a gym superior. Having a massive “functional training area” no matter how cool it is and badass you feel pushing the sleed doesn’t really justify paying $40 a week like some gyms ask for.

If you know the principles and how to create a good workout program (no, I don’t mean a sweat-every-single-second-and-cannot-breathe workout) you can work with minimal/no equipment ✌️

These meals all exceeded my expectations, honestly. Vegetarian/vegan meals are real hit or miss, and 9/10 I experience a real miss.

My only knit pick (I don’t give 11/10s out willy nilly like @nickvavitiss) is there’s no macro breakdown. Their website does show you “high carb” “low calorie” “keto friendly” etc, so you can get a pretty good idea - and pretty easy to guesstimate, or workout yourself since they post the recipes for a lot of their meals because they want to educate you and help you achieve your goals. 👍🏻 Which is actually better than being handed the macros, because you know exactly what is going into your meals and for me that is so so SO important. -
Clearly, I’m just picky and the fact the meals are clean, healthy, delicious and convenient it’s an all round 11/10 from me, especially when we are talking that peanut and coconut raw slice which actually probably deserves more than a 11/10 😂

Their website does show you “high carb” “low calorie” “keto friendly” etc, so you can get a pretty good idea - and pretty easy to guesstimate, or workout yourself since they post the recipes for a lot of their meals because they want to educate you and help you achieve your goals. 👍🏻 Which is actually better than being handed the macros, because you know exactly what is going into your meals and for me that is so so SO important. - Clearly, I’m just picky and the fact the meals are clean, healthy, delicious and convenient it’s an all round 11/10 from me, especially when we are talking that peanut and coconut raw slice which actually probably deserves more than a 11/10 😂 - I highly recommend you head to their page and check them out. You can place your order via their website by Wednesday and collect from the studio on the Saturday morning. The website is simple to use - even I can use it 🤷‍♀️ and I know I’ll definitely be placing using this service more often. No better feeling than knowing my meals for the week are already sorted. 1/2 cup (50g) rolled oats
20g vanilla pea protein
1 tsp baking powder
1-2 tsp sweetener of choice (I used @natvianaturalsweetener )
pinch cinnamon
2 tbsp mashed banana (approximately 1/4 medium banana)
2 tbsp @chobaniau Greek yogurt
1 large egg
2 tbsp almond milk

Optional stir-throughs: chocolate chips (I highly recommend 10g chocolate chips or else it would be quite boring) berries, nuts etc

METHOD:
1. Throw all of your ingredients (excluding mix ins) in the blender and blitz 
2. Place contents into a greased oven proof dish and stir through your mix ins
3. Cook for 15 minutes on 160 degrees or 1-1.5 minutes in the microwave
4. Serve with more toppings again 🙋🏼‍♀️ I used raspberries, caramel white chocolate @macr0mike and @sneaky_wholefoods

HIGH PROTEIN MUFFIN SLICES 🙊

INGREDIENTS:
100g banana (mashed)
20g Vanilla pea protein powder 
40g planet food coconut flour (best macro coconut flour I’ve found)
1 egg (whisked)
1 tsp baking powder

METHOD:
1. In a large mixing bowl, add your pea protein, coconut flour and baking powder - Stir to combine.
2. In a separate bowl, mash your banana until smooth. 
3. Whisk through the egg, and then combine the wet and dry ingredients together, mixing until the mix becomes fluffy and forms a dough consistency.
4. Place 4 even balls of batter onto a lined baking tray. Mould into a flat, circular shape.
5. Bake for 15 minutes at 180 degrees.

You can eat straight from the oven (like I did) or allow them to firm up whilst cooling. These refrigerate well so you can pop them in the toaster and eat at another time.

MACROS: 35c/10f/29p for all 4 slices (ex my toppings above) you could half this if you only want 2, halving the macros above.

Today’s oatmeal bowl is a little sweet and salty combo! Ladies and gents here is a maple bacon bowl! This is definitely my current favorite oatmeal combo. I’ve always been a fan of sweet and salty combinations and my favorite donut of all time is a maple bacon bar so this was definitely a winning idea. I made a maple cream cheese frosting, cooked up some turkey bacon, and threw it on top of some brown sugar cinnamon oats! I got a little too excited and ate this in like less than a minute because it tasted so good 😝

Thank you to everyone who wrote me all the kind comments yesterday. I was really not feeling happy yesterday, but thanks to you guys that ended up changing. I feel way better today and am motivated to not think too much and enjoy everything to the fullest of my ability. As someone with quite a sweet tooth when it comes to 3pm, I usually want fruit or a healthy snack like this! It’s super handy to have these healthy snacks to grab out of the freezer, indigo wrapped for after school! Perfect to prep in minutes and satisfy your cravings and sweet tooth💁🏼‍♀️🍫

INGREDIENTS:
▪️3 cups shredded unsweetened coconut flakes
▪️1 cup coconut oil, melted
▪️1/4 cup sweetener of choice, I used honey (must be liquid)
▪️1-2 cups chocolate chips or melted chocolate of choice .
1️⃣In a large mixing bowl, add all your ingredients and mix very well. Pour batter into the lined pan. .
2️⃣Lightly wet your hands and press firmly in place. Place in the fridge or freezer to firm up. .
3️⃣Once firm, remove and cut into bars. Place in the refrigerator. .
4️⃣Melt your chocolate chips of choice and individually, dip each coconut bar in the melted chocolate until coated evenly. Repeat until all the bars are evenly coated. Refrigerate until chocolate firms up and enjoy

Between rushing around Ikea this morning, looking after the boys and getting myself to the gym, I absolutely did not have time to be creating any recipes today. However I was lucky enough to head down to @priorityhealthkitchen and see Andrew who hooked me up with this incredible treat. -
This treat is #refinedsugarfree, kid-approved (thanks Brax) easy to make and even easier if you do what I did, and get them to make it for you 🤷‍♀️

INGREDIENTS:
BASE:
1 Cup of Oats
1 Cup of Desiccated Coconut
1 Cup of Rice Malt (Heated)
1 Cup of Peanut butter (Heated)
1 Cup of Whole Raw Almonds

TOPPING:
200gm 70% Dark Cooking (Baking) Chocolate
¼ Cup Organic Coconut Oil -

METHOD:
1. Line a slice baking pan with grease proof paper. Place oats and desiccated coconut in a bowl and heat peanut butter and rice malt in a pan. Once heated pour onto the dry ingredients mix well. Once all ingredients are well mixed begin to form the mixture in the baking pan, pressing firmly. Sprinkle the raw almonds on top of the mixture and press down. 
2. Place chocolate and coconut oil in a microwavable jug and begin to melt the mixture at 30sec intervals stirring in between cooking times. Once the chocolate is completely melted pour over the base and refrigerate until the chocolate has become firm. 
3. When ready cut into finger thick strip bars or bite size pieces. Store in an air tight container either in the fridge or the pantry.

Place chocolate and coconut oil in a microwavable jug and begin to melt the mixture at 30sec intervals stirring in between cooking times. Once the chocolate is completely melted pour over the base and refrigerate until the chocolate has become firm. 3. When ready cut into finger thick strip bars or bite size pieces. It goes against my attitude of living life without being a perfectionist to use things like MyFitnessPal or fitness watches. But if you’ve been following me for a while you know that I do track my calories to eat large amounts of food everyday, but I had never had a watch or a heart monitor since about 2 months ago.

After having a lot of fitness professionals trying to see why a gadget just next to your heart wasn’t properly working for me, changing it to another heart monitor, getting an arm band heart monitor and, even more ridiculous, having two heart monitors attached to me at the same time, there was only one conclusion - I was the problem.

Yes, I found out that I am what we call an outlier. Yes, I am in that tiny percentage that is different from all other members of a particular group. In this case, my heart rate is significantly below the average and the device doesn’t work properly on me. Obviously I only tried the brand that Orangetheory had but I would be running at a speed of 20MPH on the treadmill and still not reach my maximum heart rate (which is kind of scary and honestly freaked me out because 20MPH is quite fast. Like, REALLY fast).

It did made me wonder about if it would be worth to get an actual fitness watch from all those famous brands and test it. However, I shouldn’t be surprised with these results though, because my body and my personality are very different from everyone else. We all are in fact. That is why I have learnt a few years ago to respect and not compare myself to anyone. We are all beautiful ✌️

I’m gonna be honest with you guys... I’m really struggling trying to find my place in this world. I want more than just a normal life. I want to wake up and be excited to work on something. I want to spend my time working on my own projects and creating stuff for others to enjoy, not becoming a cog in a company and making someone else a lot of money. I don’t want to be a success zombie and say I will be something one day but never actually doing it. I want to make myself proud with my achievements and give back to those who helped me reach them.

The thing is, I am working towards things and I am planning stuff for my future and I am taking in all the lessons and information I can on a daily basis. But some days (including today) I just feel lost. I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing and I am just blindly doing things that may not be right. I feel like I’m missing moments and that I need to be moving faster than I can possibly move. And I know this sounds like the same shit everyone else deals with in the world which is sad to say. But I will be 18 soon and I feel like this problem will only become more apparent in the near future. I just hope that you, you reading this right now, will overcome any similar challenges and get to do everything you dream you will do one day. Keep going guys.

Ingredients -
200g mashed banana
2 eggs
150g Greek yoghurt
1tspn vanilla extract

40g hydra 6 chocolate charge
90g almond flour @sukrinuk 
1/2 tspn baking powder
1 tspn cinnamon
1 tspn nutmeg
35g 85% dark chocolate chips. I used Lindt and broke the 35g into small pieces.

In a bowl Mix all your wet ingredients together , now in a separate bowl mix all your dry ingredients together , once an even consistency is formed in both bowls add the dry mix ingredients into the wet mix untill an even consistency is formed.

Line a small baking loaf tin with grease proof paper.

Now poor your mixture into the baking tin.

Bake for 25/30 minutes at 180c fan assisted oven.

Once cooked remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes.

Topping

In a small bowl add 1 table spoon of crunchy peanut butter , with a small amount of almond milk or cashew milk , microwave until the peanut butter has softened and stir to make a smooth spread.

Once a nice consistency is made for the topping layer it on top and eat away 🤪. #flexibledieting

Is it weird that I like making food look artsy? I’ve always believed that if your food looks good, it will taste better. I think that’s why expensive restaurants have such beautiful plates of food. My dad is the complete opposite and makes fun of me for taking pictures of food and making them look cool. Single Serve Soft Baked Banana Protein Cookie 🍪🍌

I’ve been in a cookie kind of mood lately and so that’s what I’ve been making myself nonstop. This has been one of my favourites: a huge, thick and fluffy banana cookie packed full of protein...and choc chips 😇

Ingredients:
▪️30g @happywayau vanilla pea protein powder (note: this is the only brand I use for my baking!)
▪️50g mashed banana
▪️10g coconut flour (or any flour of choice)
▪️1 tsp baking powder
▪️2 tsp granulated sweetener of choice (I use @nuviaproducts)
▪️60ml liquid egg whites
▪️10g dark chocolate, chips (feel free to omit, add more, or add your own inclusions, like walnuts!)

Method:
1️⃣Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius, fan-forced.
2️⃣In a mixing bowl, add your dry ingredients and stir to combine.
3️⃣Pour in the egg whites, and continue stirring.
4️⃣Fold through the chocolate chips.
5️⃣Using your hands, start to mould the mixture into a dough, and form a large ball.
6️⃣ Place your your cookie dough on a lined baking tray, and flatten slightly. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden, and dig in while it’s still warm!

My birthday is coming up guys and I was thinking of doing a birthday cake themed oatmeal bowl to celebrate. It’s crazy how time flys as you get older. I still feel like a 15 year old tbh. I’ve also noticed that I’m not fully experiencing the present moment as much. I literally looked around yesterday and was shocked to see the fall colors already appearing. Who ever said healthy means boring clearly never had one of these!! Super easy to make yet so delicious! Spending that extra time in the kitchen creating healthy snacks is so worth it, it allows you to know exactly what goes into your body and nourish your body right! So much better than those artificially sweetened protein bars from your supermarket, which really upset my stomach!🙁

▪️dark chocolate- I used @peakchocolate ▪️nut butter- I used almond butter from @naked_nutz ▪️1 bag of @cleanandlean_mixes brownie mix
▪️1/2 cup water
▪️1/4 cup coconut oil melted

1️⃣preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
.
2️⃣ add all ingredients into a bowl and mix until combined
.
3️⃣Pour into a well greased/lined pan and bake for approx 20-25 mins
.
4️⃣Let cool completely then slice with a knife that had been dipped in warm water 💧 and then add desired amount of nut butter on top, then drizzle dark chocolate (melted) on top of each individual brownie .
5️⃣Let harden in the freezer and ENJOY!! Leave in the fridge for about a week or in the freezer for months!

People ask me if I get bored of eating the way I do. 🤷‍♀️ The answer is no. I like to fuel my body with nutrients and not rubbish. I have complete flexibility in what I eat. I choose to have pizza on a variety of 10 different bases, because I find it’s an easy, quick and delicious way to fill up my remaining macros. It’s also usually the way I use up remainders from the boys dinners so food doesn’t go to waste (tonight it was tortilla wraps 😂) I’ve had it a few times over the last week, and I may not have it again for another few weeks - I may have it tomorrow 🤷‍♀️

I don’t see eating well as a chore or a hindrance. It’s been 2 solid years, I don’t know any different. That’s not to say I haven’t had a few cheat days here and there, but as you can see - it hasn’t affected my results. A cheat day didn’t turn into a cheat week or month. Basically because after a day, I go back to craving the usual things I eat 🙋🏼‍♀️ This is why I push to everyone who asks me, how did I do it? MAKE THE LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Don’t follow a fad diet, or a ridiculous challenge meal plan for 8 weeks and then go back to how you were eating. In a years time you’ll find yourself exactly where you started, or in an even worse position.

The term ‘flexible dieting’ is thrown around a lot on social media and refers to eating a variety of foods that are freely chosen, rather than using a meal plan or eating a diet that cuts out certain food groups. 🤓

The approach is usually associated with tracking food. This is where I often see the ‘flexibility’ aspect thrown out. If you choose to track your food that’s up to you but you should be able to function without your tracking app. It’s not very flexible if you can only eat according to 3 numbers. 💁‍♀️

To me, flexible dieting refers to using the right tool for the job. If you want to get on a bodybuilding stage, tracking strictly is a good idea. There is no room for error so that makes sense for your goals. If you have more general fitness goals, like gaining muscle or getting stronger, there is no reason that you have to rigidly stick to specific numbers. 😑

You should be able to eat without numbers. You should be able to enjoy a meal out without worrying about hitting your macronutrient targets exactly. You should be able to go on holiday and enjoy the food, rather than worrying about trying to quantify it. Tracking should be a tool, not a philosophy. 😎

Week 1 - Week 4 🙋🏼‍♀️

I started the 8 week challenge with @samirosefitness as I was feeling lost and needed some guidance after deciding not to compete next year. I let her take the reigns with my macros/training even though part of me wanted to lose fat, the other part of me KNEW I need to gain muscle. I still desperately clung to the idea of trying to lose weight/fat, BUT I was set on doing whatever Sami told me I needed to do 😇

Over the last 4 weeks my mindset has changed entirely. I’m sure Sami got the shock of her life when I basically told her I was accepting that I need to keep increasing my food and that I need to have a solid growth period. Especially when I told her I was locking myself in with a coach for comp prep (finally working toward my ultimate dream 😇), and wanted to work on bringing my calories up even more to be in a good place for @dan_teamecto to start with me. 👙 My motivation, strength and positive thoughts have all increased dramatically over the last 2 weeks, and this is mainly because I’m loving how my body is starting to look at the moment! I’m not even worried about the number on the scale anymore. Having a week off the gym to recovery from surgery didn’t even bother me like it usually would!

At the beginning of starting with Sami I was on:
125p/185c/56f - no cardio.
As I hit the half way mark I’m currently on: 
125p/220c/68f, with 1 day where my carbs and fats are increased to 270c and 78f - still, no cardio, and the reduction of my circuit day of training.

Despite eating more and weighing about the same - I’ve actually lost weight.. I’ve lost 4cm from my waist and I’m finally starting to see some muscle growth, and my body scan over the weekend speaks for itself 🙏🏻🎉 Since my last scan I’ve lost 2.5kg of fat, but gained about 5kg in muscle 🙏🏻

And my other victory for the week? I GOT MY PERIOD THIS MORNING AND THERE IS NO PAIN, NO CRAMPS, IM NOT DYING... I think surgery was a complete success 🎉🎉🎉🎉 POSITIVE VIBES ALL ROUND HERE 🙊🙋🏼‍♀️

I’ve lost 4cm from my waist and I’m finally starting to see some muscle growth, and my body scan over the weekend speaks for itself 🙏🏻🎉 Since my last scan I’ve lost 2.5kg of fat, but gained about 5kg in muscle 🙏🏻 - And my other victory for the week? I GOT MY PERIOD THIS MORNING AND THERE IS NO PAIN, NO CRAMPS, IM NOT DYING... I think surgery was a complete success 🎉🎉🎉🎉 POSITIVE VIBES ALL ROUND HERE 🙊🙋🏼‍♀️

Feeling a little patriotic🇺🇸 I was reading this book recently called the Dichotomy of Leadership and it made me think about the sacrifices made by our soldiers for our freedom. Ask yourself this: If a soldier died for you to have the life you lived now, would he/she be proud of what you’ve accomplished? I had to think hard about this. It really put into perspective how my own success is an obligation to those who sacrificed their own lives for me to live mine. Remember to always be striving to better yourself and make the most of the freedom and privilege your given.
