The Flames organization did today exactly what I told them not to do...
The official trade is as follows:
D - Noah Hanifin
C/RW - Elias Lindholm
D - Dougie Hamilton
D - Adam Fox
LW/RW - Michael Ferland
At first when I heard about this trade I was pretty pissed off, but I’ve been thinking about it and it could work out.
Noah Hanifin is by no means an offensive Dman like Dougie Hamilton, but instead more of a 2-way defender leaning towards a defensive defender. He also happens to be 4 years younger than Hamilton!
Elias Lindholm is 23 years old, 3 years younger than Ferland. And although he isn’t a wrecking ball like Ferland was, but he’s put up 39+ points in his last 4 seasons, and he can fill a center role as well as a winger.
Lindholm can both put pucks in the net and make plays and should be a great addition to the team.
WHAT WE GAIN:
1. Youth~ our team just got much younger and faster, we will be a dangerous team for years to come.
2. Stronger defensive play~ what Hanifin lacks offensively, he makes up for defensively, although he’s not as good as Dougie yet, he’s got 4 years to be even better.
WHAT WE LOSE:
1. Backend scoring~ we lose the highest goal-scoring defencemen of last year. A big oof.
2. The wrecking ball~ no more big hits from Ferland. 😰
