There’s this band from Canada I know practically nothing about called the Five Man Electrical Band whose only claim to fame in my memory is that they were apparently loved so much by the members of 80’s rock band Tesla that they not only covered their song “Signs” for their seminal acoustic live album back when the concept of the “Unplugged” performance was starting to be explored by MTV and others, but they went as far as naming the resulting recording “Five Man Acoustical Jam” in their honor. Other than that, I only remember them from a South Park episode making fun of hippies or something where Kyle tries to play and sing along to it on the guitar to protest capitalism or whatever. Anyway, as I've gotten older and become somewhat cynical about people claiming to be “woke” and such, I think a lot of what the song says is still sadly very valid. Even though we get that sort-of-endearingly-hopeful-and-naïve last verse, which even for a guy like me who’s not really the religious sort, manages to hit home a little bit. #music#art#rocknroll#tesla#unplugged#mtv#80s#fivemanelectricalband#fivemanacousticaljam#canada#signs#acoustic#therollingstones#thebeatles#credenceclearwaterrevial#coverversion#thegratefuldead#southpark
You can tell we're Guess Who fans.. One thing we like to discuss with customers and friends alike is common groups and some of their more far out music they made further back in the day. Now, Guess Who has been around for longer than the psych crusade, but some of these LPs have some seriously heavy tunes! #psych#recordstore#canadian#rockpop#fivemanelectricalband#guesswho
"Sign, sign, everywhere a sign..." yes, this is the sign on my little woodshop, in dramatic black and white, but it makes me laugh in color just as much. The old one faded, kind of like we all do. I like to tell people that most folks who drop by use that door by choice. All creative folks have a little hippie in their soul, and i suspect that has always been the case. Whether you do or don't, peace to all of you fine humans. #signs#fivemanelectricalband#vinyllove#hippie#woodworking#woodshop
"And the sign said, 'Everybody welcome...
Come in, kneel down and pray.'
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all,
I didn't have a penny to pay.
So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign,
I said, 'Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine.'
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind...
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign,
GREAT song by #fivemanelectricalband that was a big hit for @teslaband who rock btw
