Tuesday Technique - Breath! It’s the most important element in Pilates. Using the breath helps to aid each and every movement and the way we use it on each exercise can help change the influence of the movement.

Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth - There are a number of reasons why this breathing technique is used in Pilates.

It facilitates correct muscle activation, and increases the safety of the exercises.

The reason why it is important to focus on directing the breath into the sides of the ribs (rather than the lower stomach) is that this helps to keep the abdominals activated when performing exercises. If you direct the breathing lower down into the stomach, the abdomen expands/sticks out which makes sustaining an abdominal contraction very difficult and leaves the lower back unprotected throughout the inhalation.

Another reason why we direct the breath into the sides of the ribs is to prevent shallow breathing into the upper chest, which causes the neck and shoulder muscles to tense.

Just remember to breathe throughout class, even if it’s not exactly on cue, don’t want you to hold your breath and start to clench the teeth, we are trying to stay relaxed across the upper body 💙

🍲Chicken Curry Soup🍲

🔹️Ingredients:🔹️

1 tbsp coconut oil
3 cups chicken bone broth
1 13.5oz can full fat unsweetened coconut milk
3/4 cup chopped green onions
1 tbsp curry powder
1 tbsp minced peeled fresh ginger
1packet BETTER//BROTH™ Coconut Curry
3 cups shredded cooked chicken
6 oz baby spinach leaves
3 tbsp fresh lime juice
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

🔹️Instructions:🔹️
.
1. Heat coconut oil in pan over medium-high heat.
2. Add green onions, curry powder, lime juice, and ginger to pan.
3. Sauté 1 minute, stirring constantly.
4. Add chicken bone broth and bring to a boil.
5. Add coconut milk and chicken and reduce heat
6. Simmer for 10 minutes.
7. Add Spinach and cook until spinach wilts (2-3 minutes.)
8. Remove from heat and stir in fresh chopped cilantro and BETTER//BROTH™ Coconut Curry.

We all have a gift that we can share with the world. Some of us find it quickly, some of us have to do a lot of soul searching and self improvement to find it. Unfortunately, some of us don’t ever tap into it all, because it’s hard work, it is not easy living your purpose. But I can tell you that it’s worth it! 
For me, it has taken a lot of sacrifice, putting myself in uncomfortable environments and putting my trust in God to help me figure out what I am supposed to be doing in this life. I don’t have everything figured out but what I do know is that I grow closer to my purpose every single day. 
It’s opportunities like this one with @carbon38 that make me feel complete and like I’m on the right path. Sharing my knowledge with a room full of women confirmed that I was doing EXACTLY what I should be doing in that moment. 
My purpose is to uplift and help women find their inner strength by connecting with themselves mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically.  That is what I was put on this Earth to do.

Love 😍this satin leopard print🐆 dress from @isawitfirst.me . They had a 50% discount, and I got this cutie for only £15! Normally I hate leopard print🐆 and think it looks tacky, but when it’s satin and styled up the right way, it can look so luxurious and expensive. These weeks were some of the HARDEST of my entire prep. 
Being a natural athlete and also being female, that gap between just lean and being CONDITIONED is tough.

It took low calories, extra cardio and still killing it in the gym day in day out. Mentally and physically there were moments I wobbled, doubted myself and questioned whether it was all worth it.

But of course it was 👌🏻
Don’t let the highlight reel fool you, if you truly want to be as lean as you possibly can.. you better be ready to DIG DEEP.

Today I did an awesome treadmill workout, but was in a rush to get to a meeting and forgot to take a picture. So, here’s a picture from my recent trip to VEGAS, and five facts about me!! .
1. The first part of this caption was sarcasm. I hate running on the treadmill. I’d much rather run, anywhere else!! .
2. I have seven siblings!! I did not grow up with all of them, but sometimes this fact made it feel like you were getting lost in the crowd. .
3. I began working out at the age of thirteen, for allll of the wrong reasons. It took me a long time to create a healthy balance but it only made me love working out and weightlifting that much more!! .
4. I’m currently working toward a degree in elementary education with a minor in special education. .
5. I live in a very small, secluded town right above the mackinac bridge. Just barely enough to say I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Which is actually a term only people in the U.P. really use. .

Worked out 2/7 days last week but honestly I’m not mad about it. I’ve been pretty sleep deprived and I’ve been feeling a cold coming, so I decided to give my body a few days to rest up and recover. I’m slowly getting back into working out (ofc yesterday’s workout was glute focused) since I’ve been feeling a lot more focused and energized! Here are some of my top tips to recovery quickly from a common cold: 
1️⃣ Drink LOTS of water 💦 Kind of a no brainer, but definitely something we often forget to do. Other fluids like electrolyte drinks, coconut water, and hot teas are beneficial too! 
2️⃣ Eat nutrient dense and easily digestible foods 🍙 Your body needs to be fueled properly when you’re sick. Try avoid eating anything super oily, fried, spicy, high in sugar, and even dairy products. It’s also good to be aware of your micronutrient intake so incorporate vitamins/vitamin rich foods in your diet! 
3️⃣ Minimize stressors and give yourself a break 🔋Your body is already working so hard at helping you recover, it doesn’t need to deal with more stress! Organize your work/school sched so that you’re not overworking yourself and you’re making to-do’s/tasks easier to complete. Might want to consider giving yourself a break from the gym or any intense activities as well.
4️⃣ Sleep lots and early 💤 Another obvious tip but resting is super important when you want to rebalance your immune system. Oftentimes lack of sleep is a big factor in weakening your immune system, thus causing you to become ill. Good sleep will help with recovery, boost in your mood, and more energy!
