I'm so impressed by @toribabson 'stor's skill to handle and interact with fish, especially with this chubby lumpish 😂
Check her page out for fascinating fish contents! Btw, she works at the New England aquarium 😉

This poor guy is EXTREMELY prone to fin rot. (His water parameters are all perfect btw) It took me a while to figure it out but he can’t even handle the little bit of non toxic ammonia that is released from chloramines in the tap water after the water is treated with Prime. Even when the biological filter handles it by the next day. So he gets RO water treated with Seachem buffers. -
Other things that immediately send him into fin rot: mirrors and pens or anything that makes him flare more than once or twice is too stressful and results in immediate fin rot. Cleaning his tank with him still in it? Nope nope too stressful -> finrot. I even had to put a second heater in his 5 gallon tank because when the weather turned colder I guess the one heater wasn’t doing the job keeping the water temp stable at night and every morning he had finrot again.
I’ve been dealing with this for about 8 months now and It’s become the principle of the matter at this point. I’m GOING to keep this fish alive. -
Fish flakes containing kanamycin stop the fin rot thank God because I don’t think I could handle the constant salt baths and water changes with RO water otherwise. -
Delicate little Max. -
I have learned quite a lot about my water chemistry through this though....
Here’s a picture from this past weekend and some deep dive thoughts: One of the biggest reasons I fish is because I desperately need time away from my daily worries, thoughts, social media (queue Alanis’s “Isn’t it Ironic”), and all those things that sometimes just make me feel a little crazy. I don’t really understand how people survive the day to day without a [healthy] way to escape. Finding the time, money, and motivation to do something you really, really love is not always easy but I would encourage all my friends to find that thing. The amount of joy it can bring you is immeasurable. That’s all :) Happy Wednesday! 💃🏼
Fish friends, take one. There is always a new normal in life, sometimes what you remember isn’t what is real and all we can do is have high hopes for something better, waiting for a new perspective to enter your mind. That next level of consciousness. Hhhmmm, I think that’s what the fish are thinking. #fishfriends#thatswhatshesaid
