#filmfriday In celebration of @dreamingwhilstblack 7th festival nomination (!!!) here’s a few screenshots of one of my episodes, “Episode 5 - F*ck Tinder”. We had the idea of doing an episode about dating quite early on, but struggled to find the right tone and setting. It wasn’t until we decided to do it via casual conversations with friends and have the dates as flashbacks that we found the right setting. Having it in a group setting allowed the conversation to be organic rather than expositional and to have instant feedback on each story, connecting the audience to the characters.
Kwabena’s date was shot at a basement bar in West London, with crew sitting in as extras. I’d asked @ivanamazza to really turn on the crazy on @s.adjani to make him feel as awkward as possible. The kiss she plants on him was already extremely long on set and then @jorginaelias and I made it even longer in the edit, using every angle to just draw it out. For the finale of the scene I wanted to really push Adjani so I asked Ivanna if she could grab his crotch out off the blue. Adjani’s reaction, completely natural was amazing and made it into the final cut.
We shot Siobhan’s date Guerilla style at Winter Wonderland without permits. @calebcine @juliusound and I crammed into one side whilst the two actors sat on the other of our gondola. We had exactly two turns of the wheel to get the entire scene, with angles and multiple takes. On top of that we couldn’t shoot on the lower quarter of the turn so as not to be caught. There’s one angle I wish I had gotten but for a 15 Minute space I’m happy with what we managed to grab. For Toby’s scene we were back in our basement bar. This scene was hard to shoot and edit as the reveal was the payoff for the whole story so it had to work perfectly. @anyebe_godwin is an amazing and generous actor and we got a whole load of different reactions from him and also from our Drag Queen Cory. Jorgina and I spent hours finding the right combination of timing, reactions and shots to get the biggest laugh.
In the final scene we finally introduce @vvbrownskin . I wanted to have it super simple, with the suggestion that they liked each other..
When I was in Des Moines, IA this summer I went on a film photo adventure with @jengolay. We walked around downtown, through the alley ways looking for cool walls, murals and buildings to see and photograph. I love exploring a new city this way and of course, also eating my way around the city, lol.
What's your favorite way to explore a city?
After walking around all afternoon we realized we hadn't tried a double exposure.. something I had been wanting to try. So we figured out how to do it on our film cameras (35mm, Nikon F100) and Jen took this double exposure of me in a Target parking lot, haha.
We out here doing things!

Las Vegas is an ever changing city. Out with the old and in with the new is the mindset. And so many people come and go so quickly in this transient city.
But Vegas is also changing in so many good ways. The artist and local maker community has really blossomed, business owners are looking out for one another and have a community of competition mind set and a few buildings, like @fergusonsdowntown, are being revamped and repurposed, instead of demolished!! Maybe this shift all happened when we got the Vegas Golden Knights. We all have someone to root for, together. ♡ Whatever the reason, I'm so happy to get to witness and be a small part of this change and growth. I'm excited to watch this city transform!
