For me to give you an unbiased review of this women’s badass show would be impossible. Check out the video in my bio to find out why. (Skip to 4:00 if you can’t wait.) I could go on forever about her talent and more importantly her message, but in short, with the latest Grammy nominees I’m so glad she is finally getting the attention she deserves. As you can see, I’ve been waiting a while! Thanks to @bigmannat and @sammybekim for making this happen. #FemtheFuture
S/O to the women who contribute to my thing called life:
1) to @mctiso brainchild behind the 2018 @aswkenya & a woman I have admired for over a decade for her unique mix of brilliance, humility & humor. Nobel Prize material you shining star 🌟 .
2) to @drivingcuriosity, for this tank top & for driving around the U.S to bring us a book from women explorers that I cannot wait to get my hands on 📖 .
3) to the Kenyan women scientists who shared their worlds with me over the last 2 weeks & trusted us to do them justice. Such deep pride for their contributions to this country of mine 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 Read about them at africascienceweek-kenya.org, Faces of Kenyan Science.
4) to the women who make clothes for us, by us, so I can stand in front of a room & feel like a boss. These pants are my new fave @ikojnlive 🤗🤗🤗

Iris Apfel my muse.. "An American original in the truest sense, Iris Apfel is one of the most vivacious personalities in the worlds of fashion, textiles, and interior design, and over the past 40 years, she has cultivated a personal style that is both witty and exuberantly idiosyncratic," the Metropolitan Museum of art said about Apfel. "Her originality is typically revealed in her mixing of high and low fashions – Dior haute couture with flea market finds, 19th-century ecclesiastical vestments with Dolce & Gabbana lizard trousers." "Iris Apfel embodies the quintessential role model for Barbie with her singular style vision, entrepreneurial spirit and independence. Her long-spanning career makes her the perfect subject of a one-of-a-kind doll, the highest honor Barbie bestows," Mattel said in a written statement.

Flashback Moments: Wednesday 12th September 2018. This is my face of joy.
Completing a full circle.
I captured a moment that I find some sort of happiness. After... Metropolis Music Presents @janellemonae LIVE London Roundhouse 12.09.2018
I was emotionally and physically drained this year but her performance inspired me to keep moving.
Good Morning!! #Hope vs Optimism. This is key. Listen all the way to the end for them Gem . . . 💎 .
This does not mean we HOPE for change. That’s what “positivity culture” does. It’s a dishonest ‘brightside’ that looks away from the darkness. Hope exists in the darkness, it embraces the condition and fights its way out. It also goes back in to bring others out. Hope acknowledges the forces of gravity and the forces of oppression, and still attempts to fly. “Positivity culture” pretends that it’s easy for everyone to fly, looking away from those that are being forced back down to the ground. .
This Life and Love gem is courtesy of the great Dr Cornel West, who’s older brother Cliff became a mentor to me after meeting him at one of Cornel’s events in Stockton many years ago. Maybe almost fifteen years now. 🤔 Crazy how time can fly. So what time is it on the clock of the world? Time to change this shit. 🙏🏼♥️✊🏾 special thanks to @blacksocialists for resurfacing this video. Treated myself to a bookstore haul today: @goodcompanyzine because @luvvie’s on the cover, @janellemonae in Glamour Mag (#FemTheFuture ), @wellreadblackgirl by @guidetoglo because I stan a community builder who changes the game and carves new lanes for themselves & others, and @michelleobama’s release because Forever FLOTUS. Adding these to my stack of books on my work table at @tesseraartscollective so I can dive into them during breaks from painting new work.
#Bookstore haul: @goodcompanyzine because @luvvie is the cover star, @janellemonae in @glamourmag because #FemTheFuture , @wellreadblackgirl by @guidetoglo because we stan those who create new lanes for themselves and others, and @michelleobama’s memoir because Forever FLOTUS. What are you reading lately? 📚
FEMINISTS DO NOT HATE MEN!
What we hate are misogynists, pedophiles, rapists, abusive men and women.
Any and every form of inequality and unfair treatments towards anyone on the basis of sex or any basis for that matter.
If I hear this "feminists hate men" crap one more time, there is no saying what I would do. Y'all need to fix your brain 😩
November always feels, like my sister said, scattered. It’s painful.
But today I’m going to #tbt to the morning after the election last week.
It’s the first time in awhile I’ve felt hopeful.
To witness over 100 women be elected into positions across our country with so many (about damn time) firsts, this #fall morning actually felt good.
I’m going to hold onto that and I hope you will too.
