This was one of the paintings in my very first NYC show at the @goddardriverside Community Center last year. It has since then been hanging in my friend Michelle Cave’s apartment. She is the founder of Ballet & Beyond NYC, an organization close to my heart. | "Girl In The Big Hat", acrylic on canvas, 24" x 24".
"Rose Color Meaning. Red Roses: A red rose is an unmistakable expression of love. Red roses convey deep emotions - be it love, longing or desire. Red Roses can also be used to convey respect, admiration or devotion."

The best place to discover these things is in yourself. If you can love, respect, admire and devote to yourself, you won't accept anything less from others. Also, you can't expect to love someone else if you can't even love yourself. You won't know how to. Yes we are all flawed and face tribulations one way or another but loving yourself enough to look past, accept and overcome, shows true strength. It begins with YOU. No one can love you like you can.

Another staircase taken from zero to hero! Stringers transitioned from varnished wood to trim white. Walls required repairs to over 90% of their surface area. This was the definition of a prep work job. 😫
I've finished, oil painting with gold and silver gilding 8x7ft Thanks to everyone for being supportive with me throughout the journey I know I've taken ages but I have learnt a lot and feel like I've got some momentum. This will be on show in November as part of the Connections series. Thank you so much to Harriet and carmine of @edificedancetheatre who allowed me to use their image and who's work I admire so much. Please follow and support them - If no one is familiar with the work they do and has a passion for dance that has raw powerful energy and story telling. The dances and choreography they produce is so well placed in my own vision that I knew it worked for what I needed to paint. I first discovered Harriet with the incredible video ABADDON and then Edifice with Blood Wedding. And here is my second painting which depicts connection between man and woman, man and animal and explores the complex nature of our own animal nature and desires unfulfilled. #kerrypennyartist#feature_gallery#art3page#painting_lovers_world#animalpainting#figurativeart#contemporaryart#oilpainters#femalepainter#artuk#ukartists#britishart#artcollector
A decade ago, I took a trip that ended up being life changing. A year after I lost my mother to cancer (diagnosis to death was 9 months) my husband took care of our two young children (ages 5 and 2) for a WHOLE WEEK so I could be on my own. I needed to center myself in some way. My mom’s death was the third significant loss of a loved one in three years for my husband and me, and coping with that grief while raising two littles took a toll.
I needed to go away, to breathe, to sleep. I went to a wellness spa in Mexico that my mother had taken me to years before when I was a social worker needing a break.
That mother-daughter trip was a special. We went on sunrise hikes and climbed mountains before breakfast. We took walks, exercise and stretch classes, and got massages. My favorite detail may have been our private fireplace stacked with fresh logs each day — every evening, all we had to do was light the match. My mom’s favorite detail were the flowers. On every walkway and path, my mother marveled at the landscaping. I agreed it was pretty, but I didn’t soak the flowers in the way my mom did.
That didn’t happen until I went back after her death. On my solo trip, I found myself captivated and inspired by the array of flowers and fauna around me. Going through photos from that trip this morning took me back.
There is more about that trip that helped lead me to where I am now, but this is already too long (if anyone is even still reading!🤣) All of this must be part of why flowers often come through in my creative process (photos are from my solo trip.)
Tell me, please, what inspires YOU?
The dance of LOVE! I was so incredibly honoured to reveal this Healing Painting for a soon-to-be married couple yesterday. The story of their relationship is truly a fairy tale. They fell in love in their early 20’s in college, moved back home after graduation in two different ends the world then reconnected 30 years later with the power of the internet. Next week they are tying the knot in a forever union! Their story is a reminder to TRUST in the divine timing of life. If things are truly meant to be, it will be. No pushing, no forcing - whatever is meant to be yours will always find its way back to you. It was a huge task to illustrate their love story through paint. With a lot of Trust, Self Love and guidance from Spirit I was able to create this piece. The orange symbolizes her spirit and the blue is his. Individually yet together, they are dancing through the journey of Life on canvas. My hope is that this painting will remind them of the first time they laid their eyes on each other - the energy, the passion and the magic of the moment and their story. Hidden beneath the first layer of the canvas are the words: “Happily Ever After...” Today, I am grateful for the people who come into your life to remind you about the Power of Love.
the less fun parts: cost comparisons on bubble wrap.. tearing watercolor paper trying to follow straight lines.. working out safe transport of a heavy painting. what’s making every single second worthwhile: hearing about happy or bittersweet tears that come when my work arrives or is presented as a gift. these are the stories my daughters will grow up witnessing, and might tell to their children and their children
very excited for tomorrow’s open studio, oils inks and watercolors will be available to snap up! #scaost2018
